Aussie Delivered R32 Gtr's

Recommended Posts

Nice buy bob, how much is a bomb :)?

Out of interest, did any other car such as the 300zx run the same compatible head unit (knowing that their side indicators are the same)? Surely there is another make/model that ran the same radio back in the day?

According to the Godzilla Down Under book, the stereo was straight out of the Nissan Maxima..... I don't like our chances of finding one of those in a hurry but you never know.

The unit owes me about $300......... from the USA inc postage etc. They ran them in 240SX's over there..... Same timespan as R32's - 1989-1994.

Bob.

Here is a link to all the photos I've got of the Packer car that was sent to Britain and then returned.

Do you see anything uniquely similar to your car?

Cheers,

Bob.

Yeah the number on the firewall is there. With that and the number on the engine block I was able to verify it was the same car mentioned in the letter.

Nothing noticeable in those photos. My car is black and always has been. Did packer buy a black one?

Well, to be honest, I didn't think so.

We all know about the 2 x red ones and the Silver one that is currently for sale but I was told he had a R34 Black one, not R32.

That said, memories from 20 odd years ago aren't that flash and I've been caught out quoting what people believe to be true only to find out later that it's incorrect.

I'd ring Ron Eagle, make an appointment to see him. Get him to check out the car, offer him $50 for his time and effort but at least then you know exactly what you have or don't have.

Could be the best $50 you've ever spent!

The Ex-Kerry Packer Silver car is up for sale again (55,000kms with full service history). Looks like good buying at $39,500 asking price, although does have some modifications.

Does anybody know any more history on this car?

QLD Reg: Norty1

Build No. 015994 (No.12 of 100)

Build Date: May 31st, 1991 Complied

Paint/Trim: KJ1/G Jet Silver Metallic

Owner's Description.

One for the motoring enthusiast / collector. purchased new by Kerry Packer (Consolidated Press) this is a original nissan austalia GTR.If you are looking at this you will know the original purchase price and how many were complied here. it comes with full log books and manuals/keys and excellent motoring history. this vehicle was also driven and maintained and modified by the motoring great himself Kevin Bartlett. for those who are not aware Kevin spent alot of time helping nissan compliance the cars. This GTR however goes one step further being modified from new by Kevin for Kerry having the larger discs fitted, wheels to clear the larger discs, computer remapped, custom exhaust and more. The car presents as an original with log booked klms. Servicing was mainly performed by Kevin and his team and this is reflected in the service manuals.

Further history of the car extends to the second owner who was Nick Ross (Kerrys helicopter pilot)and for those who dont know he was the person who gave Kerry a liver.

Nick had entended to do motorsport Rallies so a complied roll cage was fitted, although the roll cage has been removed and trims returned to standard as these events were never fullfilled it will accompany the sale of the vehicle and the QLD modification plate still remains. Now the car remains in storage with very little use only to keep things turning every couple of weeks.Due to expansion of business i am no longer able to store the car so it is now offered for sale or trade. The vehicle is currently Qld registered and the plates are not included in the sale. As mentioned i will accept trades with cash differnce either way.

  • 3 weeks later...

I finally had a chance to read the godzilla from downunder book...i think it was page 35 where nissan aust jumped onto a small importer located in vic who imported a limited number of r32s. I am certain this is Scuderia as my brother has owned 001 of only 6 units for the past 12 yrs. Paul whitmarsh used to own this gtr, the races competitively in the porsche cup.

I have chassis 11 sitting in my shed at the moment. My father and I purchased this car a few years ago. Dale breed owned it at one point and we have all the history on the car. It's currently lightly modified with -7 turbos, and just a had a full engine rebuild. Car is fully registered and we use it at club events like mt alma hillclimb and mallala sprints. After all what's the point in having it if you can't enjoy it's performance..

It's silver in color and is in pretty good conditionfor it's age. Just resprayed it . The only annoying thing about this one is that the Ap brakes foul on standard wheels...

Another ADM surfaces - great & welcome!

I totally agree with you...these GTR's are in their element when making 500hp+ as they come alive, just like the ATCC GTR's back in the 90's.

Do you have any pics & also the colour of your car as I'd like to add this to the ADM list in the thread :)

Hi Bob,

Never suspected it was owned by Packer / related entity.

The letter is dated November 2002 and at the time Tony was General Manager, National Service Division.

Yeah I have been tempted to find out more about the car as I have a friend, whose brother works at Nissan Australia and have been tempted to get him to ask Tony or at least get contact details. But then I think this happened over 9 years ago so will he remember.

I'll try an upload a copy of the letter tomorrow, for you guys out of interest.

I have one of those radios in my cuppboard. Used to randomly change stations when it was in the car.

The only mod it had when I bought it was a Kevin Bartlett chip in the ECU. It was always maintained by Eagle Automotive at Asquith.

I was able to verify the numbers on the car, then the service history by receipts from Eagle. But like I said it has no tags plates anymore. But this never effected it getting Pink and Blue slips or rego when needed. Just always kept a copy of the letter in the car.

As my car "R", I'd be awfully tempted to ask James P for a DNA swab and cross check against anything you haven't vacuumed, shampooed or polished yet, haha

Just my imagination running sorry.....

Hi John and welcome,

Some pics would be great.

How long have you had the car for?

What's the history of the car?

We love reading all that kind of stuff.

Cheers,

Bob.

Hi Bob et al

Thanks for the welcome.

I bought the car 6 years ago after searching everywhere for quite some time. Sounds like an old story but I found it hiding in a garage just down the street. The original owner who was 73 at the time had lost his licence being caught at 165kph in a 100 zone. It was his toy so didn't get driven much. Anyway he agreed to sell me the car as long as I promised not to modify it and take him for a drive every now and then. He gave me all the original paperwork with service receipts from day one. We added it up and found he had spent $1 for every k driven. The owners manual has never been filled in but the wallet has deteriorated so I am looking for a better one. FYI the Australian ones had "Nissan Australia" embossed on the back. So if anyone knows of one I can buy I would be keen.

I have created a gallery headed "Australian Delivered R32s" with a subset gallery "#59" and put photos in there. Perhaps other owners could do the same with theirs using the build number as the heading.

Cheers

John

That's quite a story John!

And welcome from me too!

Somehow, I cannot see myself selling my GT-R at 73 in 2022, no matter what speed I've done; no matter what wife I have; no matter what aged care facility I live in...

    • Hi all,   I have bought a JDM R35 at auction in Japan.  This is my second JDM GTR after owning one back in 2009.  I have made a couple of videos that may interest some forum members.  One is collecting the GTR from the compliance shop (and seeing it for the first time) and another on the process of buying and importing a car from Japan.  I'm new to this and would appreciate your thoughts, as well as a subscribe!
    • Sorry, AFM.    Will edit original post
    • Oh, yeah, no arguing that the duty cycle is different. And a circuit car will go to those speeds for more distance and longer times. But, I suspect that if a tailshaft has a harmonic problem, that it would cause damage and shit itself maybe even on the first pass. A second or two of running at the resonant/harmonic problem speed is already a couple hundred revolutions.
    • Shaft speed would be the same, however it's how long they hold it there for and repeated conditions. FWIW half way down the main straight at SMSP I'm bouncing off 4th with a 8600RPM limiter. That shaft would be spinning at 8600RPM for a few seconds before I need to smash the brakes, by T2 it's getting close to that speed again. Now a drag car/roll race car would see that shaft speed for a 1 to 2 secs then they would coast, hit the brakes and that's it.
    • With same diff ratio, tyre diameter and road speed, the tailshaft rpm is the same regardless of the gearbag's ratio. Given that very quick drag cars are probably doing similar road speeds to the fastest circuit cars (circa 300 km/h), and there will be many of either category that can't go that fast and so you'd have inummerable matchups between drag and circuit car speeds at smaller numbers, and given that they are probably using rather similar tyre diameters and probably using similar diff ratios, and...where any of those numbers were different they could quite easily be in opposite directions thus cancelling out.... I think you'd find that there'd be more similarity than difference in tailshaft speed between these two use cases, no?
