you could make anything with the right amount of money. but spending all that on a VN to beat a stock 35 is pretty gay.

its exactly the same as this

the vn is getting way too much praise imo

why has everyone forgotten the lexcen, afterall its the same brilliant corner carving chassis, and you're more likely to find a much less abused example in adelaide, cheaper to boot

yeaaahhhh ahhh but you still havent answered my question

its actually very relevant

the comment was made that you cant use the car as "nissan intended" without turning off VDC and voiding the warranty

so i ask, if the only thing i cant do is awesome 4 wheel burnouts with vdc on, how is having the vdc on/race not using the car as nissan intended?

its cool though, good discussion :(

That comment was never made, please show where Marc said that. It was said that Nissan put items on the car that voided its warranty. You said that was incorrect, it's not. Turn VDC off = no warranty. It doesn't matter how Nissan intend for the car to be used, if they intended it any other way they wouldn't have allowed you to turn it off in the first place.

I don't think there's as much hatred for this vehicle as you perceive. It's not a dichotomous variable of you either own one or you hate them. There are inbetweens. What people do hate though, is arrogance.

mad082 goes on a rant about how much he hates the R35 and then everyone gets upset when some people say they like them?? Take you own advice and accept other people have different points of view.

The original topic was around a Mustang not a GT500. A GTR would smash a non-GT500 Mustang with any tyres it likes. End of thread.

Gtr all the way. But unfortunatly when I looked into the cars in tokyo drift for the racing scenes they did use the v8 mustang engine because the rb26 just didn't have the low end needed. Looked good for the movie though

What? They used the Rb26 in a muscle car in the last final battle what are you talking about?

Guys really who cares, this is the great thing about cars, the fact every one loves something different so we all drive something different. Fair enough it's good to compare certain models against one another when they are in the same class, but comparing cars totally in different worlds is just silly and pointless.

Also it really amazes me how much hatred there is for the R35 on these forums

Fair enough I can understand certain points of view, but as a whole it just really amazes me how many of SAUers say so many bad things about them.

I mean people saying they could make a VN commodore handle and perform like a R35 using the same amount of coin, I mean come on, are you f**king seriously saying shit like that?

^ about the best post in this thread . imo r35's are not the prettyest of cars on the road , but i'd own one any day of the week (or test drive one if anyone wants to offer?? lol ) , same as any other exotic . i don't get how on a nissan forum you find (obviously jealous) wankers bitching about how not awesome they are , reminds me of when r32s came out in aus , everyone hated them? (now you haters have a think about it  )

p.s vn commo = bogan sportscar :D

all other supercars are like a really hot chick that goes off in the sack. the GTR is like a sex doll that gets you off a bit faster but without all the passion. in my opinion it just doesn't have the raw emotion that other supercars, and even some non-supercars have.

nah i'd have to say it's more like the 18yo model next door , might not have the experience of the older ones , but fresher , tighter and just as much fun without the rep :P

Because they are f**ken awsome!

Back in my high school days, my mum's old VN had a broken exhuast pipe (leaking all over the place) & the bogan teenagers all thought its a V8...

you shouldn't mistake questioning someone's opinion with arrogance when it reads like the same ill informed hater rhetoric that's been reiterated all over the interweb by prepubescent teenagers with no real life experience

whether i own one or not, i do know that you dont need to service it everytime you reverse it out the garage, and have no desire in my late 20s to turn vdc off to rip full hektik burnouts on the street

so apart from lc which i can use, do let me know what "items" i cant use without voiding warranty?

Edited by domino_z

The user can turn VDC off easily and this voids your warranty. Even if you don't go doing "burnouts", you turn it off and the warranty is void. I don't know of many traction control systems that get logged and void warranty just by being turned off. All I stated in the first place, was that you shouldn't jump to the immediate assumption someone criticising the R35 is, as you say, an ill-informed hater. Because that owner rhetoric is as ill-informed and tiresome as the genuinely irrational haters of the vehicle. And yes, it is arrogance when jealousy is assumed. Not everyone who dislikes the R35 is a jealous, ill-informed individual. Can we just get that down pat and I'll be happy?

+1 I don't hate the car because i'm jealous of it, I dont like the way it looks, I don't like the way it sounds, I don't like flappy paddle gearboxes, I don't like 20" wheels, I don't like leather interiors.

And the big one!

I don't want to be stereotyped as a R35 owner, hell even on just this forum nearly all the 35 owners have their head so far up their ass it just isn't funny....I.e making threads about look at my pretty gear knob...whooptyfkndo batman, you have a gearknob OMFG really

hahaha good to see the search function works well over here

but maybe you should keep out of the r35 section then if you cant deal with the content/owners

Edited by domino_z
I saw the gearknob thread before this on, I can deal with whats there, the vein-ness keeps me entertained while at work.

must be tiring being a one man crusader for the r35 vein, having to read through all those threads and then come up with some cool whitty post

but you might want to question why similarly r35 owners arent posting your hater dribble in r32/33/34 sections of the forum

Edited by domino_z

I really wanted to avoid posting in this thread....but alas..

I'm not here to crusade the R35. I bought it...my choice...I don't really listen or read into opinions that lack intelligence to make them.

But just a few things.

1. I respect reading posts from birds and domino...I think they are intelligent and articulate writers.

2. Its rather difficult reading posts from someone who thinks 'vein' refers to a characteristic of self pride and conceit, rather than a blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood to the heart.

3. You really cannot accidentally turn VDC off...you need to hold it down for a number of seconds. It also does not mean you void your warranty. Although being stuck in snow or mud in a GTR is highly unlikely.

4. Birds I do agree with you that not all haters of the R35 are jealous or ill-informed...although this is correct, if you closely examine the posts from said haters, you may find a substandard form of argument. e.g 'vein'

Welcome to the thread Khayman! ;)

If you examine internet forums in general you will find a sub-standard form of argument

What we have here is a mini forum for a 170k vehicle glued onto a forum for vehicles with an average price tag of say 15k-20k. That's a recipe for capitalist cataclysm that will bring out the haters and fanbois from all corners. I'm actually surprised the arguments aren't worse.

I'm usually third party to these R35 owner vs R35 critic arguments. Watching from the sidelines though, I can see irrationality on both sides. You have the usual run of jealous haters, which are a bare fact of life in any category of anything...they do exist. But you also have some arrogant owners who will actively seek out irrationality in the critic's argument (and upon failing, will simply pretend the jealousy exists) just to feel better. I've seen this many a time in the R35 section - it truly disappoints me when reference made to someone's opinion or comments being invalid because another assumes they have not driven or owned the vehicle. Key word being "assume" here. Fortunately that is not every R35 owner, and fortunately not every non-owner is a jealous individual. So I do think that, as an owner, you drag yourself down to the level of a hater when you accuse someone of being jealous without knowing for sure their intentions or what they have and haven't done. Sub-standard spelling or not, to me it is the intention of the communicated message that truly matters. Sometimes this is difficult to decipher. Oh look, it's beer 'o clock! Time to stop thinking ;)

    • Um. No. Since Matt introduced the TIM it has become a lot easier to deal with the consequences of changing K for AFM and injector swaps. Then, tuning is a f**king doddle. No-one needs to know or care how many grams of air are flowing or any other bullshit. Need more fuel in a cell? Add more fuel. Need more timing in a cell. Add more timing. Need to adjust any of the other tables for warm up and so on? No harder than anything else. Sure - it's not an ECU system for starting from scratch on an arbitrary engine. But then.....it was never supposed to be, not recommended for, and almost never used that way. So.... On your engine, in particular, Nistune/Nissan OEM is about as sophisticated and difficult as banging 2 rocks together. Those ECUs are primitive and simple. There is nothing difficult there. I learnt Nistune from scratch, created new maps with extended axes, interpolated/extrapolated the original maps onto them and tuned my RB20 (basically the same ECU as your 26 ECU) all by myself, more than 20 years ago. And that was long before even TIM.
    • Set of knee pads for a R34. Will fit every model I think. Comes with everything except the rubber covers for the bolt holes. Still in great condition. You will need to drill holes to mount these or use double sided tape. I can do free shipping and will be shipping from the Netherlands with tracking.
    • Nistune needs something like an entire excel spreadsheet in which you build an abstraction layer that converts everything from real units you can actually measure into all of the various tables. The number of unexpected dependencies hiding in how the Nissan ECUs do math is a pretty impressive optimization trick for 8-bit MCUs but good god is it awful to actually work with in practice.
