I know that lol. I also say goodbye to my 350. I'm saying if I can shave a few hundred rpm off this current setup (messing with timings etc) I'd go from 95% happy to 100%

hehe well ye there is that. 350 is relatively useless in RWD though.

More is less in a RWD scenario for a street car. The sweet spot i found with my GTS-R was around 280rwkw. Had 370rwkw @ one point and that was just ridiculous.

Each car and set-up is different of course, takes a few runs in the hills to see what works and what doesn't :)

I'm still really happy with the way it turned out. If I could shave 300rpm of I'd be extatic. Yeh doing internals.

You can sell a turbo within a week and replace it with a GT3071, and then do the same once you build your motor. A motor is going to take you at least a year to get done, might as well trade it in on the forums for a plain old GT3071, at least that is what I would do. A year with a better performing car for maybe a few hundred lost max sounds like a great idea to me, being as its such a new turbo you should have no trouble selling it as well.

If 300rpm makes you 100% happy then why doesn't 1000rpm make you even happier? Seriously it makes a LOT of sense to sell the turbo off and get a smaller variant, in the short and the long term, E85 will see you getting even more power than you are now with a GT3071 with at least 800rpm less lag, seriously consider it.

Can I ask how avo got such a bad wrap? They have been in the business for ages. Who here has actually used them n was not happy?

Search the forums, lots of bad reports of their housings. I don't think anyone was bagging them as a business, just the housing they made for the GT30

I can't afford it. Remove sell buy install tune. Cost too much.

Fair call, though if you remove it yourself (really not that hard, lots of DIY guides on here) sell it (for more than a GT3071 is worth) make some cash, then spend that cash on a ~$300 touch up tune you should break even.

Car would be off the road maybe a week or two max if you don't have any buffer cash to buy then sell.

No I just can't confidently answer the question regarding the actuator.

Also why not a gt3076

3076 is suited to higher power levels, a 3071 would be around a similar power level to your current turbo, but with bucketloads more average power, would be much faster on the street and on the strip.

Look on here for examples of power levels and graphs for the gr3071 in 0.63 and 0.82 rear housings.

3076 is suited to higher power levels, a 3071 would be around the 250kw mark, but with bucketloads more average power than your current 270kw, would be much faster on the street. Would be faster down the quarter and much much faster on the street.

Is a gt3076 really that Mich laggier then the 71. Compared to what I have now. Wont a 76 still be an improvement.

Yes they will all be an improvement, but you don't want to go much over 270kw on your stock motor do you? Isn't that why you limited your current gtx to 270kw? hence a gt3071 would be the best choice for this power level, I'm not 100% sure if you would make it on the 0.63, there is a result in the dyno thread with that much but I'm not 100% sure you would be able to replicate it.

Basically you want the smallest turbo and smallest exhaust housing for your power level.

I may have an oppurtimty to swap stuff around. If I'm looking for same power. Less lag. What's the choice. Gt3076. 63? .82? Gt3071.82. Gt3071.63(seems a Tad small)

Wich one. What are ur thoughts between the above. Vs staying.with what I have.

If you just want a tough streeter that is awesome everywhere and dont want to spend heaps more cash then you unfortunately have the wrong turbo..

Call them, worth a shot, they might do it with a restocking fee, pretty good idea imo.

Basically you wanted 350kw, imo thats way too much for the street, 300 is the limit for rwd before you just get slower (more lag, less traction, very hard to drive) if you want 1/4 mile times and use slicks then sure that power is useable.

If it is a daily driven street car aim for 250-300kw with the smallest turbo that will make that power, I would be looking at the 0.82 GT3071 for this, if you use E85 then you can make even more power, I think I've heard of people doing 320kw with E85 on a GT3071

not to mention 250-270 doesn't need an engine rebuild, where as if you want to do 350 year in year out reliably you do.

1/4 mile lag isnt a big deal as you can smash the limiter on take off and then you are flat the entire way, on the street you are using half throttle and low revs etc.

That doesn't come with antisurge comp housing does it. U wouldn't go 3076.63?

You made a fairly big investment in the GTX turbo, while I am not a believer I am also not one to tell you to lose money. Keep it if you believe you do want more power (and will have the money to get it) down the track.

Decide what you really want.. I think in the end you bought into an overpriced T67... Somewhat laggier than a 3076 but capable of more robust figures (we hope). The T67 is proving itself more and more often for an over 300 turbo and costs under a thousand dollars delivered.. How can you argue. The downside is the external gate business and the fact it has an enormous comp housing.

If you seriously have a change of heart I think you should simply sell your CHRA (core and comp cover) and swap out for your said replacement. Be it myself I have seen enough proof (2 alone on this website) to indicate the 52 trim 3076 makes the 3071 near obsolete. I still believe the 3071 with a .63 internal gate housing will be a good thing all round, yet think the 52t 3076 will be better. Ideally I would run the 52t 3076 with the Kando 10cm cock-up housing and a 44mm WG (tial MVR 44 etc), but welcome to 6boob land and lots of cash.

The words have been said, if you had nobody to tell you otherwise you probably would never have thought a down thought about it, I know I wouldnt. Maybe just leave it alone and tune in that 300rpm your talking about (could get more with a simple cam gear mod) and enjoy the process of penile extension while informing the masses of your GTX taaarrrbbo.

    • Hi Yes we're a bit optimistic we might get something out of sealing up the two pipes of the external wastegate and reactivating the stock one. I believe the orginal stock wastegate was tack welded shut. It doesn't budge and visually looks closed and sealed. The car has noticeably more lag so it could be at least part of the problem, maybe all. It's definately one of the key changes made since last tune. And it's one that's more difficult to fully understand and measure, not like for instance timing or cylinder compression.  Thanks for that feedback, we'll let you know how this progresses.     • Well, I was going to say, "Is the wastegate set up so that it is not leaking?" That's actually a different thing to what you're asking about. In theory, if you have allowed the two halves of the manifold to commmunicate (more than the stock manifold does - which is at least a little bit) then the negative effect should be apparent in delayed spool, not in outrigth power. OK, maybe just maybe, a badly set up twin scroll wastegate "crosstalk" might kill the top end, although it's hard to see how. What is happening with the original wastegate in the turbo? is it sealed off properly. If it's left flapping in the breeze, it will f**k everything up. If it is still there, and can be returned to service, I'd be capping off the external (presuming the two halves can and will be isolated from each other after doing so) and have a go with just the stock wastegate. I have an internal wastegate in my highflowed rear housing. The bigger opening and flapper should be fine to >250 rwkW. So there's not exactly a pressing reason to have the external. Done right, an external will give better results. Done wrong, it might just be possible to have worse results. Report back!
    • Hi Rob It's a nistune ecu. Yes same shop, good reputation. Apparently the computer on the dyno is compensated for temperature.    Chris was saying that the lean or richness of the mixture would be covered in the actual tune, but he's already picking up in advance that it's under what it should be. Regards the dyno, it's also noticeable on the road. But I just want to add something that has just come in, it appears there might be something in the setup of the external wastegate. In the exhaust manifold there is a centre divider between the front three and rear three cylinders. The external wastegate has a pipe from each side that join at the wastegate. Theory is those two pipes just might be pypassing that divider and introducing a problem somehow. Is anyone familiar with the divider in the exhaust manifold and the effects if the two wastegate pipes were to create a bypass path?
