Well going from the tech specs it would indeed look like the GTX3071 would be perfect for an RB25. It appears to be made for a 2.5L engine.

The island is fattest at 2.5 pressure ratio (about 1.1-1.2bar intake pressure), and goes from 210 to 550lb flow. This should match the 60mm turbine wheel very well.

I've got to look into this further. If only they made a 0.7 housing option with a bigger waste gate and sectioned it off (ala GT2835 style).

I wanted to go .7 AVO housing and I got rediculed for it. Shoulda stuck with my gut.

a 0.7 AVO housing is not comparable to a 0.82 or a 0.63 garrett housing so don't sweat that.

How do u figure. Its the same thing essentially. Have u used a 0.7 avoid before? Seems to fit perfectly between .63 and. 82.

Do they make GTX versions of smaller turbos like GT28 etc?

We really need to get more comparisons of the borg warner turbos etc to see if there is a better turbo than the GT3071 for ~250kw and amazing response. Does anyone know if there are any other turbos in that sort of power range that offer similar/better performance?

I love the way the torque curve gets up and stays up, and owns anyones ass in the car.

13:1 at redline?? very very lean!

I heard they crop it so it doesn't flow as well and causes issues, at least I think it was the AVO, remember some custom housing like that had boost control issues and didn't flow that well.

ARR is area radius ratio.

If the area is different then the ratio is not comparable. It is only comparable within housings of the same type.

I would want to hope that they upgrade the turbine if they do a GTX28 as the current GT range is already turbine limited (well in the 2871R anyway) so there really isn't much point in having more compressor flow if the turbine can't flow the extra or provide the drive to spin the bigger flowing compressor.

Thank you for an answer. Would the slightly worse flow matter (if it was cropped) considering I have a massively flowing gtx3076. Also if that entire chart shifted up about 25 kW. Would poeople be happier?

the avo housing is modelled of the standard skyline housings and is sized between the 21u and op6. It is a completely different design to garrett housings.. It may of worked to some extent but would of been holding back a very capable turbo ..if you wanted more power down low should of got a smaller turbo..like the 3071

check out Russmans project build thread shifty, thats closer to how a gtx3076 should be set up if you ask me..

Why did you decide on the 3076and not the 71 anyway? It was quite obviously to big for your goals

I doubt it..if you want to make people happy stick it on a 6boost with external gate crank the boost up to 20 something and rev it to 8k.. It will make 350 plus and people wont look at your low down power anymore they will be too busy marveling you huge powah..unfortunately this will probably cause the rest of your car to fall apart ..

But atm you have 80kw at 3500rpm.. Even My ancient crap turbo makes 160kw there.

Because the gtx3071 has the samesize exhaust wheel theferore most likely similar lag.

why not save your 500 dollars and just get a gt3071..

it would of made the same power with a shitload more response..

Anyway congrats for having the nuts to have a go shifty while everyone else just talks about it ..

should of gone to Trent though, AVO is like the Kmart tyre and auto of tuning... ;)

go to projects and builds thread...look up russman..its a good read..

I'm going to end up at 350 Ish. That's why I didn't got gt3071. Otherwise your dead on. Was gonna go ft 3071. Then I wanted bigger numbers and faster 1/4 mile :P.

Trent from where?

By the looks of things a GTX 3071r would be the way to go?

I'm curious how the GTX3071 compares to the GT3076 to be honest. If it makes the same power with less lag.

you are planning for 350kw on a stock motor? Or you rebuilding? Imo I would have just got a GT3071 and then just upgraded once you rebuild or do whatever it was you were planning on doing.

trent from status tuning, he is one of the best where you are, even other tuners talk highly of him

I'm still really happy with the way it turned out. If I could shave 300rpm of I'd be extatic. Yeh doing internals.

Can I ask how avo got such a bad wrap? They have been in the business for ages. Who here has actually used them n was not happy?

exactly you were never going to make 350 on a stock manifold or internal gate..

I still dont get why everyone is so skeptical of these new turbos.. Garrett would not be dumb enough to release them if they were no good..just have to find their sweet spot...

If you put on a GT3071 i tell you right now that you'll get MUCH more than 300rpm

Could be as much as 800-1000rpm based upon your results thus far.

And you'll make the same top end.

AVO is a great shop, dont get me wrong, they do alot of cars at a reasonable price, its a bit of a production line..

Probably wouldnt matter though all the tuning in the world cant make up for a wrongly matched setup..

I know that lol. I also say goodbye to my 350. I'm saying if I can shave a few hundred rpm off this current setup (messing with timings etc) I'd go from 95% happy to 100%

That's a fair point. Look, im gonna tough this one out. Its still amazing to drive. I need to.tweak the tune/rest of my setup to find a sweet spot for this Turbo.

Everyone else keeps talking and hasn't done anything yet so its hard for me to compare notes.

    • Ducan , yeah sure mate , the unit is https://www.carlinkit.com/ambient TBox Ambient -  plugs straight into the USB C and it runs as a android  unit and you can link your phone to it via Bluetooth , but it only allows for one phone at a time. you can download and apk files you want and load it on there , I downloaded a basic maps apk (OsmAnd+ — Maps & GPS Offline) so I can run navigation without data usage , its not as good at google or wazes but it works fine for what I need. I can put up screen shots if you like. Cheers Pac

    • Currently advertised with some A4 flyers up at work for $30k ono Will detail it next week, and get some good picks for carsales, then put the cover back on and put it back on the tender until someone comes to look at it No real hurry to sell, in saying this I would like it gone with in 6 months as I am retiring in May 25 and lose the ability to store the car undercover in a secured site, plus as we are moving out of Sydney the potential buyers market will be more limited https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/485907-2002-vx-ss-commodore-30000-ono/
