The response of the GT-RS was superior. The 2835ProS clearly makes more power throughout the full range and is ahead of the GT-RS from quite early on. I am hoping with some more attention to the fuel/ign maps on the ramp to boost we can close the gap a little. The low mass and small diameter of the GT-RS turbine was lightening fast to react to on/off throttle situations.

this is acheivable... my 2835 powered 25 has 4000 revs in the fun zone and is very easy to keep there. the on/off response on track is lightning fast with higher rev stuff being completely instant

I mean 300kw plus for a gtx3071, how long is a stock engine going to handle that for, my guess is not very long..Dependant on usage of course..

if it's tuned properly and looked after meticulously it should hold up. trent has a HEAP of cars in the 300's now on stock internals that are holding out

Cause i reckon once you get up around or over that 300kw milestone...driveline becomes the issue..not much point having the power if you cant get it to the ground right??

My vote is for keeping the 3076, go E85 and run 23-25psi. Should make 340-350rwkw, improve your current awesome reponse (E85) and have a spastic mid range and top end!

i've tried to tell kris this.... but he has his lil heart set on the x35x.... at least we'll get to see some results, shortly followed by a rod or two ;)

What's everyone's take on the "buy an externally gated T3 exhaust housing, then weld an external gate directly to the housing"?

I've seen it done before, but 99% of the time the gate is on the manifold, so I guess there must be a reason for that? I just don't want to have to buy a new exhaust manifold while i'm at it :)

anything bigger than a GTX3071, and you'll need an aftermarket one anyway.

Yea, stock exhaust manifold, currently i'm at 250rwkw so I don't think it's a restriction yet, and the money could be better spent elsewhere

No point going external gate on the factory manifold, its mutually exclusive.

Might as well stick with internal gate and a simple bolt on affair.

Internal gate limits are inline with stock manifold limits pretty much.

If you change one, you generally will be changing the other as it's then over 300rwkw :D

The stagea is a massive log, so the lower weight in an R34 will definitely feel snappier. It makes full boost in a similar spot to yours already it is just a case of making it a little more responsive if possible. We should find out next week what improvements are possible.

dont expect too much more from the factory manifold. every cars different but they start becoming a serious restriction at around 260-300rwkw

yer but on the other hand i maxxed out the whole IW gt30 on standard manifold setup at 250rwkw @ 17psi. was a rather conservative tune and probably made around 270rwkw later but wouldnt have been much more than that. changed to external gate and 1.06 TW housing and the difference was huge, didnt get it dyno'd unfortunately so dunno how much better it was.

Not so sure about same response. The HKS 2835 runs a 0.68 exhaust housing, the the GTX will only come in 0.63 and 0.82 of which the 0.63 is too small for most people. Plus the GTX3071 is expected to have slightly less response then the GT3071 due to the new design. Therefore I would expect the HKS 2835 to have more response then the GTX3071 but I would expect the GTX3071 to have more top end.

The 60mm turbine wheel actually helps response though because there's more blade area to catch the exhaust gas at very little weight difference.

The GTX compressor wheels are lighter but the 58 trim probably cancels that out. It's VERY unlikely that the GTX 3071's compressor wheel is heavier.

Yes the .82 GTX3071R will be laggier than the .68 GT2835. 2 very different configurations. I bet the .63 GTX3071R would spool the same as the .61 GT2835 tho.

I think that the 0.7ish rear end is the key to a mint turbo on a RB25...

That's why you get awesome results from the 0.68 rear HKS housings and the 10cm (0.73) rear Mitsubishi housings

They blend the response of the 0.6's with the top end of 0.8's

The reason I was asking earlier about the "external gate mounted to turbine housing" scenario is because i think i want a GTX3071 with a 0.6x exhaust housing for "maximum street response like a hks2835", and the internal gate 0.6 has flow issues because it can't vent enough gas to control boost? I don't want to f**k around with a new exhaust manifold unless my 100% street driven car can see much improved response, and i'm limited in power output anyway by stock internals.

So, assuming i can't find a 2835 at the right price, i'm going a GTX3071. Can somebody give me a real world difference between the 0.6 housing and the 0.8 housing? I guess I could try the 0.8 with internal gate, and if i feel it's not responsive enough, then get a new exhaust housing and make a turbine mounted wastegate with screamer pipe?

There are a few different internal gate exhaust housings i've found online at places like ATP, is this housing the best one to get?

After upgrading from a broken stock turbo, to a kkr560, i've never felt decent response in my car, so that's the new priority, and i've screwed around enough now, to know that this time, i want to do things properly

I think that a GTX3071R on standard manifold with a 0.63 rear with external gate welded to turbine housing would be a good idea...

I was going to do the same with my new T67 but the compressor cover was really large and would have required a huge spacer so I just bit the bullet and went a 6boost
