Hi fellas,

I am planning on adding performance parts to my R33 GTR and was thinking of some oil coolers. I understand most people often add oil cooling units for either their transmission or engine to cool the oil in them. My question is, which would add some noticeable performance gains and would both be good?

Moreover, to get a few extra kilowatts of power - would larger injectors and an aftermarket fuel pump add anything. I'm currently running a stock engine with only performance coilpacks and spark plugs so would this add anything?

to my knowledge there are NO performance gains other then keeping the engine healthy and lowering high oil temps though track or industrial area abuse.

although lower oil temps could mean better turbo performance as they don't like high oil temps

thats one thing that i'm unsure on, if lower gearbox temps will make the gear box last longer and not blow/less likely to blow then i'd have one in yesterday, fairly easy on the rb20/25 as u just use the auto banjo bolts and hard line.

i've been meaning to ask if there's any real difference or can you still kill your box just as easy?

Kevin don't you just drive your car around on the street? What on earth would you need a tranny cooler for :)

You do realise the point of an oil cooler don't you? It is to keep the temps from climbing high which will cause engine oil to thin. Meaning unless you drive your car very hard on the streets, it aint going to be doing squat for you.

Thanks mate. I'm a noob - not going to try and deny that. :-)

Basically, I'm trying to add some extra power on my GTR but don't want to upgrade turbos as I find them very responsive. Wonder if there's anything else I can do...that's why I raised these questions... thanks mate.

injectors, pump, FPR, and a new wastegate spring, or a new wastegate all up, of anything a hks one. but thats HKS money.

with the 440cc injectors you would be limited to the 300kw mark, same as the stock pump i guess.

go for 550cc, tomei FPR, and either a HKS wastegate or a 1 bar spring/s for your ones now. then add a decent BOV that wont kill itself above 10psi.

there you go, that should pull you up to about 300kw at the fly.

thats assuming you have a decent exhaust fitted before all else, whats the point on putting in more if you cant remove of more.

You missed the main thing he needs if he wants more power, an ECU.

Basically if you want more power these are your steps for your 33 GTR:

1. Exhaust

2. Cam gears

3. Boost controller

4. ECU Tune

5. Clutch

He doesn't need an aftermarket FPR.

Kevin if you really don't know much about performance modifications start searching in the Forced Induction section. It has been covered MANY times. Or simply go see Trent or some one regarding a package he would recommend.

your way would be the proper way of doing it. like if you have alot of cash flying around, but then again, rb26 parts are getting hell of a lot cheaper than the rb25 parts.

my way was just replacing the ecu upgrade with a FPR, a hell of a lot cheaper. but then again, nowhere near as good as a ecu.

p.s, i also think the performance section would cover just about everything

But I would not push the stock turbos over 1 Bar (14.7 PSI) unless you have steel internals.

what if the car is auto? even on the street, autos benefit from a cooler once you increase the power. so keeping that in mind, auto trans cooler or engine oil cooler? both w thermostats of course

If your skyline has that tiny single-loop-of-pipe trans cooler then yes, I think in an australian climate its an important upgrade, even on a stock vehicle.
