Can somebody tell me if i can use the crown and pinion from the GTS4 to fit the front and rear diffs of a series 1 stagea? I got my eye on a GTS4 box and diffs and it would be ideal and cheaper than a 32GTR. have heard they have a higher ratio 4.375 compared to a 32 gtr 4.11, i have gone down this path because i also heard that GTS4 running gear is closer to a stageas than a GTR?

You can but it will be even lower geared than stock (better for drags i guess) whereas i would have liked to go the other way with an R34 GTR diff (3.545:1).

Stock GTR (R32 or R33) is 4.1 near enough to stock Stagea (4.08). However on the positive side the GTS4 axles are GTR strength if you change them over as well. You could use the GTS4 box though. The GTR gearbox has a stronger transfer case than the Stagea - I don't know about the GTS4 transfer case.

Yeah i know wot your sayn about the taller gearing in a drag car - revs harder at higher rpm. im chasing response with a smaller turbo and ffp or 6 throttle, not outright hp. a r34gtr would be ideal ratio but hard to get and $$$. i will be using the GTS4 box and maybe swapping the axles. Worth it for wot i can get it for.

My Stagea diff (rear) is 5x1.. mated up perfectly to the 32gtst axles I had to use to fit the 32gtst centre.

Then again, mine is a s2 RS4V. Might just need to be careful with blanket statements such as "Stagea is..." :D

Just use the box and leave the Stagea diffs for now. GTS4 axles are 6x1 bolt pattern Stagea are 3x2. You should be able to reuse the auto drive shaft and gearbox mount.

Thats the plan bob. Just claryfiying. found this interesting info and im tryn to upload a rpm convertor regarding diff ratios at speed. but my laptop is shite atm. Standard R33 vs R32 GTS4. I tried researching the 4WD C34 laurel. seems to be the same, go figure. Might leave it alone for a while and continue on with other stuff.

Yeah bubba, i know -but S2 dont know about. All R200 from the nismo chart? Heard GTS4 swaps into GTR easy and gives taller gearing and higher rpm. Not for me but maybe more big hp stageas. How is yours -particularly with your laggy high flow? LSD or VLSD is another story for later. lol

I can confirm the above as being correct. And yes 32 GTS4 bolts straight in to 32 GTR.

A little bit of info re: me fitting the 32gtst VLSD centre to my Stagea. The 5x1 halfshaft flanges were the same PCD but the axles on the Stagea were a fair bit smaller, had to use the 32gtst axles to suit the VLSD centre. Diff housings were different due to ATTESA pump etc, mine was a RWD diff but IIRC the ATTESA pump mounts in a different location on 32GTS4/GTR's.

That all being said, if you just use the pinion and crown wheel and put them in to your housing, it will cost a bit extra in new bearings/seals for the pinion but there would be no dramas bolting it back together. R200 crown wheels should bolt to all R200 centres and the pinions should all swap between housings unless you get a long nose version (not sure there is a longnose R200.. that might be R180).

Oh and if you want the details of my diff guy, shoot me a PM. Good bloke, he does all our diffs and he set up the Nismo 2-way in my 32 and also set up my Stagea diff (I shimmed the VLSD centre myself but had him set up for backlash etc), he's in Ozzy Park.

Maybe bubba, i will let you know mate. gonna checkout a few more details. knew i had the nismo list somewhere. confirms alot. Around 100 000 yen. Checked out WHC34 RWD RB20 stagea but the same ratio aswell. positive to hear things will fit up as well as they can, as i thought. Your car must be interesting in RWD. KiwiRS4T is right about the R34GTR diffs as per usual.

Bob i thought you were going to use DE pistons, cams and an n/a head on your RB25/30? i heard this somewhere. could be wrong. higher compresion (10:5:1 vs 9:1), over sized pistons and slightly better lift in cams. would like to go down this path. No VVT headaches.

This is a cheapskate RB30 (stock bottom end, upgraded rings, bearings and rod bolts) supposedly good for 300 -350 awkw (although I would reccommend forged and balanced if you have the cash) so stock pistons, later model RB25DE head which has bigger valves than turbo and VCT which I am retaining. I think the CR will be about 9:1 but I haven't measured it.

for RS-FourV (mine - has the 5 x 1 rear axle flanges too)...

Just to confirm, because I've read somewhere about a forum member breaking rear axles on ~250rwkw, does this mean that 32gtst axles are a direct fit? Is a 32gtst axle thicker/stronger than RS4?

I doubt it, the rear track is ~50mm wider so I don't see the axles (driveshafts) from a 32gtst fitting.

They are thicker but I used the flanged stubs that go in the diff, not the driveshafts.. thicker/more splines to suit the 32s VLSD centre but bolt up to the stock driveshafts.

I gave up on the search for a non v-spec R34 rear diff to go with the front one I found and have now bought a complete R32 GTR rear end with some kind of aftermarket mechanical LSD so will be 4.1 final drive.

Ah I see. I was just assuming it was the shafts themselves that broke; didn't consider the diff' flanges.

Usually it is the shafts themselves that break, I've only heard of one case where the spline on the diff flange broke.

Just to clarify, I didn't snap anything, I was just mixing and matching parts to get the LSD to bolt up in place of the open centre.

I turned down the GTS4 box because of condition. I now have the option of buying a cheap R32 GTR or RS4S box and complete rear end. They of course vary in price but i am leaning towards using the RS4S for the factory 4.08 viscous LSD. Win -win situation.

RS4S would be great if you can get the centre console with it ( I have just chopped up my auto one and fitted R33 boots to it)!

Done and done Bob. This makes things alot easier. Secured complete RS4S box, rear end and tailshaft ftw. ;)
