just read an article about buttons thoughts for next year and im inclined to agree

redbull has never run a kers system before and mercedes has refined theirs down to an arform. I think that might be the difference in 2011. I can see redbull having a lot of trouble adjusting to the reliability benifits of kers.

With not a whole lot changing in the aero department newey will be somewhat negated and it will become a much more static field.

He's done. Hammo and Nando will be bigger and better than ever and SebVet will be a changed... man?... this was webbers year and he gave it up with a whimper. Ill be surprised if he gets even one win in 2011.

fark that's a bit harsh. he had a f**kup in korea which cost him a guaranteed 25 points which really cost him the championship. he had to run all year in a team that clearly favoured the other driver with set-up, parts, race strategy, data sharing etc, no to mention the mental aspect of being in a team where you know the best they want for you is 2nd step behind their young 'marketable' team mate. still with all that going on for 17 of 18 races he was ahead of vettel and for most of the year ahead of most of the field. he out qualified vettel a number of times and really all year apart from the end there was a bees dick between them in qualiy. most times it was hundredths or thousandths between the 2 redbulls. a small fart on the straight and it would go one way or the other. he finished 3rd in the WDC and took some good wins and but for a small f**kup would have been WDC.

I don't know why you hate webber so much but he's a good style of bloke. works his arse off and has gone a long way in motor racing against some pretty big odds. he may not be the absolute best driver of all time, but he showed that in a race winning car he is a race winning driver. just like half the F1 grid should be. you can't ask for much more than that. and when he's been in lesser cars he's been able to take them past their rightful place in the field.

even bloody schumacher couldn't win a wdc every year when he had a good rear gunner, the best car, the biggest budget and half the field scared to even go near him on track. so yeah webber let one slip by. it's a big loss but doesn't really make him less of a driver.

where was alonso in all this? he was saying he had it in the bag? if anyone went out with a whimper it was gonzo.

I didnt want to talk about it too much , but was actually testing for Force India when working in Hyderabad. My speed was obvious, but my appetite for armco and curry meant if I wasnt bending the car I was damaging the dalton!

I tell you one thing though, I amy not be able to drive but I would be doing my best to look like the love child of George Best raised on the road by James Hunt!

as for Webber being nowhere by end of 2011?! ! We will see. I think it depends a lot on how pissed off he is and whether he has even more "tackling fuel" in the tank. Webber has shown he is better in a compromised car then Vettel, even though he is a fraction of a second off him in quali pace. So if the new tyres mean the cars are a bit more sensitive my money is on Webber enjoying 2011 like he did the middle of the 2010 season.

As for overtaking, he passed more cars then anyone in Aus, but his Hamo move ruined it. He raced damn well in Monza, Singapore, Canada....his moves on Button, Schuey, Hamilton, Massa etc etc were all top shelf. Even Brazil with his fake of a rokkie...he made Hulk look like a rookie whilst Alonso struggled. He had some bad moves, defended hard with a few clashes....but when you overtook more comeptive cars in race conditions then any of the other title challengers some are going to go pear shaped

lol, yes zetool is not exactly mr smooth passing. I seem to remember him in a torro rosso rear ending a red bull under safety car.... mad skillz.

hoping kamikaze kobayashi livens things up a bit and that we get refuelling stops back. basically this year if you are not starting in grid one or two, or make a good pass at Turn 1 lap 1 then your race is over barring any accidents or blow-up. you just have to circulate for 50 laps and see what happens.

lol, fair enough. I know you steer the porcelain bus as well as you steer the F1 car. ie, with explosive force but not much aim...

yes a nicole wardrove malfunction would be great but i'm just a bit afraid that it'd reveal a little 'package' and then plenty of crying game moments all round. though not for lewis cause he's a shirt lifter anyway and probably cool with it.

Actually Vettel's engine letting go in Korea cost Vettel 25 points....

Other than the front wing 'incident' I don't recall RBR clearly favouring one over the other....

IMHO there's 10-12 guys out there who could've finished top 3 in the WDC given an Adrian Newey designed RBR car.

Schuey certainly didn't always drive the 'best car' out there. Remember '92/93/94/95/96/97 Newey designed Williams and of course the '98/99/00/01/02/03 and maybe even '04 Newey designed McLarens.... Ok the '03/04 Ferraris were super! Obviously '05 was a complete Michelin domination and '06 could've been won had the engine not let go in Japan.

Just telling it how I see it.

So what was with Vettel being the last car out of the pits in Q3 for the bulk of the last races of the season? Giving him the ideal track conditions and position to do the best he could in quali? What is with Vettel doing the testing on the new Pirelli tyres on both days the other week.

There are other things which I won mention as I dont think they are as clear cut, but the above are clear times when Vettel is being given favour/advantage. Alonso and Button have it 100% right when they say that you can be equal number 1s but still be a number 2 when it comes to track position for quali, pit strategy in the race. Direction of development of car etc.

I dont think its as bad as some made/make out in the RBR garage, inluding Mark who probably made a few too many statements knowing the media woudl run with a certain angle of what was said. But early in the year it ws Webber last out for Q3, then Vettel.

The flip side is that RBR worked hard to get a lighter chassis to Webs because of his height and weight compared to Vettel. But the same equipment came to Vettel a few races later with his new chassis. I think the biggest thing is the lack of emotion on the pit wall when Webber gets up. It is obvious on several occassions when Webber won that the emotion wasnt in their voices....small thing but just like in a work place when your best efforts are not perhaps as appreciated or recognised as others....then it can mess with yoru attitude and is draining/distracting.

yes, all true old son. and one thing. people bang on about the 10 poles for vettel. a lot of those poles came with webber a few hundredths of a second behind him in 2nd. not usually any more than 1 tenth. how much advantage is there in being the last car to do a lap as the track is getting faster and faster all the time? half a tenth? a few hundredths? there's definitely something in it. not to mention the weight disadvantage webber has. when we are down to talking such small differences between drivers it could just has easily have gone webbers way with different qualifying order from RBR or some other small difference.

I don't think there is any appreciable differnece in pace between webber and zetool. webber has beaten him enough times to prove he is as good on his good days as zetool is on his.

Vettel's day seemed to come around pretty often, webber not so much. Thats the problem.

So moving on from that, theres great news! Daniel Ricciardo is Toro Rosso's reserve driver for 2011. Seems like that last test has paid off well for the boy! heres hoping he's sitting in the other RBR seat in 2012.

I think Daniel will be in a permanent Torro Rosso seat mid way through the season. Buemi and Alguesari aren't doing themselves any favours, so it seems to me like the most logical step. Good luck to the young kid.

Weird thing is though, the official FIA entry list has come out, and neither Torro Rosso drivers have been confirmed. Here's hoping...

Formula One will switch to 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engines in 2013 after the powers-that-be reached an agreement.

At present, F1 cars are powered by 2.4-litre V8s but in a bid to go "green", the sport will swap to smaller engines with energy recovery systems and fuel restrictions.

According to the BBC, both Ferrari and Mercedes were not in favour of the proposal.

However, a Ferrari spokesman did reveal that the teams had agreed and that he would be "surprised" if the World Motor Sport Council did not ratify the rule when they meet on December 10th.

He also stated that Ferrari had been against the idea on the grounds that it would cost a great deal to swap engines but added that "an agreement is there, and when there is an agreement you work accordingly."

The only thing about this that doesnt make me cry is that i got to be at the race in monaco while the cars still screamed, way before this embarrassment

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!     • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.

    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything.
