LH talking about RBR on F1.com

You can see this weekend, I was quickest in the first sector and the last sector, but we lose a lot in the middle sector, and that’s because we don’t have a DRS system as efficient as theirs, so I think that we will lose at least half of those four tenths in the middle sector. If we can improve in that area, then I think we could definitely eke ahead of them, so that’s what we need to work on.

Like WTF LH?? Why was MW 4/10ths to 5/10ths faster in this sector when he was leading the race? No DRS deployed when leading so maybe something to do with where he spends his KERS and car setup characteristics.

I haven't seen RBR get the same straight line advantage that Maclaren gets when DRS is open and why was the Maclaren so much faster in S1?

Methinks he doth protest too much.

His car is quick enough to win races, so shut up and get on with it....

agreed. he's a whinger and a bullshit artirst. I was looking at the top speeds in each sector. funnily enough neither RBR was in the top 6 fastest cars in S1, they were in S2 but so was hamilton and guess what? all top 6 cars were equal at 214km/h, S3 again no RBR in the top 6. speed trap was the same story with maclaren miles ahead of RBR (and again no RBR in top 6, fastest from memory was - and often is - the mercedes of schumacher). in a straight line it's plain to see big mac have more speed than RBR and with DRS he gap between them is worse. like you say webber was consistently 3-5 tenths quicker in S2 regardless of being in the DRS zone or not.

even a simpleton can see that RBR employ a higher drag set-up which gives them the edge in corner speed and overall laptimes whilst maclaren have a lower drag/lower downforce set-up which puts them about even or a bees dick behind in outright pace, slower in the fast corners but quite a bit faster down the straights. the other possible explanation is the mercedes engine vs the customer renault engines RBR use but I think it's mostly a set-up thing and just they go about their racing slightly differently.

i agree. these days I would say the maclaren is on terms with the RBR and if I had to choose which one to race I would be tempted to take the maclaren as that extra top speed makes passing a fair bit easier and defending easier too. high corner speed and good lap times is nice but no one is passing mid corner round the outside with their superior aero... it's all done on the straights on the power and DRS or into the braking zones. RBR's obvious advantage is in qualy where only lap times count.

I am hoping SV isn't on the pace again. He was a bit irritable after Silverstone, this weekend did nothing for his ego so a third weekend will have the little violins cranking.

The Fez might be a very good chance of getting away with a silver dinner plate this week.

Is it just me or would anyone else like to see the balance of the option and prime tyres tweaked so that it is feasible to run the harder tyre for more time without losing bucketloads of time? I would like to see the leading drivers on different strategies.

Funny we got one of the best races of the year after Pirelli make a good tyre. Apparently their compeditors on europe have been advertising how bad their tyres are because of what's going on in F1.

We need the tyre wars back

ive been trying to find in the rules if it is possible to run the differant compounds front and back? this would add something differant if cars treated the tyres well at differant ends of the carsoft at front and hard at the back to encourage a bit more slide or otherway round for more under stear. if anyone could find an answer that would be good

Seb still has a very comfortable lead but seems to be rattled a bit easier in the last couple of races. I couldn't believe when he was down in 9 or 10 at one stage before he had even pitted. I have really been hoping for a turning point for Mark but unless he now wins a few he may run out of races to earn enough points.

Bring back refueling.

Agreed

Agreed

Is it just me or is anyone else excited about the 4 cyl turbo engines to come in over the next couple of years.

I liked how DRS had virtually no bearing on the race's outcome.

harry has really made me HATE the DRS bullshit.

Watching LH, MW, and FA dicing was majic. all great drivers, all showing their talent and ability to race without touching.

Schumi's "drift".... was wicked, if only he stayed off the throttle a little longer it would have been Gif-worthy :P

Mattr - There is a rule on it, the compound has to be the same front and rear.

GTR fan - You will be waiting a long time for the 4 cylinder engines, they are now going to be V6's.

Marlin - I agree with the dice between the three, SV should be forced to sit down and watch that as an example of how to drive in traffic.

was a bit peeved at rbr's pit strategy with mark, you'd think they'd make the jump first after seeing one of the drivers in 10th or there abouts putting in good times..

he may have not finished 1st or 2nd but it would have made for a little bit moar excite at the end..

should be a good race for webber this weekend..

From Grand Prix Week

Our spies in the Red Bull

motorhome tell us that despite

informing the world at large that

he wasn’t disappointed with P3 in

qualifying, Sebastian Vettel may

have been in tears after the press

conference ...

When I first started to read it, I was expecting it to be a poem.

I can see it being true though, so :teehee:

Pirelli confirmed the tyres are unchanged. Its the track & conditions that made the difference to tyre performance in Germany.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
