ive had insurance with just car for over 6 years and i just upgraded from a 180sx ($12000) with a premium of about $900

and now i have a R34 4 door which owes around 35k but they will only insure for 19k and a premium of only 1100

and they wont do an agreed value, its crap. im worried that shannons is going to want over 1500 a year too =\

thieves!

I'm surprised they gave you $19k.

$1100 is nice though. Ahhh, sensible 4 doors.

On another note, do what I do and just insure 3rd Party F&T and don't crash :)

I wouldn't even know what companies would want to insure my car or bike. Been more than 15 years now without insurance and it's yet to be a problem. With what I've saved over those years I could write both my vehicles off tomorrow and I'd still be way out in front.

Just did a quote through Just Cars -

$241 for 3rdP and $1241 for Full Comp with $12.5k value.

Shannons Online quote system is shizen. I wouldn't use them purely cause they won't let you get a quote online.

LSV do not insure Imports anymore - i called them a couple weeks ago as my GTS-R was insured with them as a classic (as it was virtually 25yrs old they allowed it).

But R33 GTR, no go from the outset

I know you corrected this statement in another thread but as I found this during my research so will others so I will confirm that they have changed on and off imports/classics. I got a quote for my R33 on 7/11/12 for $936 so they are covering that at least sometimes. My guess is they were just adjusting as they were swallowing chunks of market share.

NRMA, just car?

NRMA does insure imports, although there may be conditions I may not know about. I had my R34 insured with them no problems. Fair price as well, just READ the PDS and make sure you understand every single letter and marking on it. If in doubt, call them and ask them. I failed to do so and got burnt by their books so it was my own bad for not reading the PDS.

You could try use their online quote system, it shows up with imports, only recently as it seems.

Yeh nrma will insure imports , vvc insurance. Vintage, veteran and classic insurance it's separate from the retail crap they sell, its direct with the under righter, all though to get vvc you need to have a car 15 yrs or older and you've got to already have nrma full comp insurance on a daily and you are limited to 9000km/ yr.

Nrma pay clsims. When I come to claims, between my brother who's a courier and my dad, nrma have never had a issue with claims, but some one like Shannon's aren't so inclined to help out since it was bought out buy the same owners for aami n just cars n the other 5 or 6 companies they own , I had an 2002 VX SS, in 2005 my brother who was a listed full time driver on my insurance and was involved in an incident on the m5 with 2 other cars, it all came down to sun glare as the police report had said. The cost to fix was $17000 and 11 mouths later, a lawyer and the onsbudsman and I finally got a full pay out, as I didn't want a car fixed that had sat around for 11 mouths, mind you I was 20 yrs dealing with this and without a car that whole time. That's just my run with insurance but all I got to say is, you may get a great quote but will it be smooth sailing when it comes to claim time.

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
