Hey just wondering cause i never bought custom plates before, could you buy a custom plate and reserve it without fitting it onto a car? Also the cost is it just $200 and you pick up your plates or is it a fee for the plates themselves plus the annual $200? cheers

All i know is replacement plates are $35, not 100% sure but the initial $200 should include the plates , yes they can be held onto without installing on car .

$200 upfront cost includes plates.

Would you know if i could just go buy a custom plate and have it reserved until i decide to fit them onto a car? or would i need to exchange it for the current plates i got registered? reason asking cause im driving my parents spare car until i get my own but i kinda want to reserve a plate now so ill have it by the time i get my car before it gets taken or something.

Pretty sure that you need to put your new plates on within a week or so as your plates are attached to your car registration. You will need to surrendder your old plates within a timeframe (2 weeks AFAIK). Also pretty sure that you can't reserve any plates.

^^^ Correct, you cant buy new custom plates unless you can register the car their going on, so in that case you need a car rego for them to change over to the new ones, you cant just go in and buy plates, unless you register a car for them to go on.. and depends on the plate you want, my old IGTR32I ones were $280 a year, new ones are only $200 a year.. think you pay an extra $80 for an extra number/letter (7 all up instead of 6), but not sure on that..

You cant reserve them , payment must be made for yearly contract of $200 ,

payment of custom plates must overlap current registration if they go on a car - "pain in the ass"

At the end of the day they dont need to go on a car at all , you can put them on a wheelie bin , you own the contract

thats wrong actually.. you cant keep them yourself but you can store them at SAreg as long as you have payed the year infronts money on it.. it doesnt have to be registered to a vehicle

its not restricted to customs either.. been through it not long ago

I really don't know if I can justify another $200/yr on my baby. I guess I could go one of the non-yearly fee ones ...

Could get like JRMS-34 or JENS-34 but then people might think I'm 34yo :P .. hmm .. JEN-R34 would be win, but that would be yearly fee. Gheys.

next chance i get ill just pay a few years in advance, then i can regret it like all the money i spend haha

mines good cos it doesnt apply to one car. eg JRM 34 would be a bit strange on a S15.. RIPP3R goes on anything, that if you plan to keep it for a long period ect
