Hey guys...

I've seen 2 different 180's in the last 2 weeks, both must be running without BOV's...

What turbo do they use (i'm guessing it's std. as they both sounded identical) and what makes their 'flutter' sound so damn good?

I know this is one of those personal opinion things and a lot of people will say flutter is bad and sounds crap...etc.

But yeah, i like the sound of a 180's flutter...

Also, how can you get flutter without the backfiring?....

oh, ok then... thanks for that...

So, is there a way to make a gts-t (R32) flutter without stalling and backfiring?...

I know you can change the computer set-up but that's about $2K so stuff that...

other than that i can adjust my BOV right up (GFB Hybrid).... how will this go with stalling and backfiring?... anyone know?...

(and yes.. i know this sounds like a stupid thread but hey... i like flutter)... lol

hey dude, i got the stock bov on my r33 gts-t and when i put a cooler on it started fluttering pretty clearly and loud too, im putting on a hybrid bov so it flutters at low revs like below 3500 and then normal above those revs,

also ive never had any stalling or backfiring problems

dont worry i like the flutter too hehe

cheers...ben

lol... kool,

Yeah, I havn't put on the FMIC yet, and i'm gonna replace the intake pipe with a steel item i think... so it should sound good then?...

Yeah, my Hybrids set to about 3000RPM; never had any dramas with it there so i might up it a lil bit and see how it goes each time i adjust it... cheers.

DJ.. Im not sure you totally understand how it works.

The Flutter is made when the compressed air is forced back through the Turbo

Due to the Throttle body closing (lift of throttle) The air has to go somewhere.

A BOV negates the need for air to be forced through turbo via to methods.

1.Legal ; Venting back to the Intake before the Turbo via a line "plumbed" from after turbo to before turbo

2Illegal ; Venting to atmosphere .

Point; If you really like the "flutter" get rid of your BOV but know that it will reduce the life of your turbo.

good luck...

Andrew..

I had awesome sounding flutter on my R31 GTS-R. But if I shifted on boost and held in the clutch it would sometimes stall. I fitted a plumb back BOV and this has now stopped. I liked the flutter sound but would rather prolong turbo life no matter how little extra it might live.

I also noticed it generated boost between shifts a tad faster after it was fitted obviously because the turbs had not slowed down as much as before.

Well my mate has a 180 and the sound (flutter) is from the stock bov, he has a pod filter in the engine bay, it is just the sound of the stock BOV sounding through the filter, it will be louder on higher boost. On my car I have awersome flutter (everyone loves the sounds my car makes) this is only on low boost under about 8psi, but when I boost up i get more of a normal BOV venting sound. I have a turbosmart supersonic type 3 BOV I also have a bigger turbo so that helps becasue of increased airflow.

Yep, I knew all that man... the turbo might be replaced this year so not overly concerned there...

Af far as taking the BOV off... that is what i wanted someone to say so i could ask the next question...

With no BOV (please only speak from experience, not theory)...

Do you get that crappy backfiring?

Do you get that stalling problem?

Cheers...

Yes

and Yes.

You'll might get similar problems with an Atmo BOV too as opposed to a Normal Plumb-back one.

This is from expiriance. But as you said, aftermarket management fixes it... but that's a few $$$

Mine flutters...even before the cooler

I have a HKS BOV and HKS POD (BOV dont go back into turbo )

Flutters before the cooler? I'd like to see that one.

The flutter has nothing to do with your I/C at all.

the stalling/backfiring problem is caused more by an atmospheric BOV than no BOV due to the engine running richer because the air it was meant to use has just been blown out, i have a full atmospheric on my 33 and i had it tuned also so that it wont stall and will never backfire, so if you have some tuning methods u can do that too

DJ: Yeah, i know that the stalling and backfiring is cause the air isn't going back past a certain sensor or something like that ( if someone want's to increase my knowledge, feel free)...

How do you mean you had a full-atmo BOV tuned?... I know with the GFB BOV's you can adjust them so they'll only go off over certain revs etc... but i still get the (very) occasional 'pop' out the exhaust... NO WHERE NEAR as bad as some cars i've heard that make a huge cracking backfire EVERY gear change.... (that'd just give me the shits to be honest)...

Speaking only from experience and not theory my car use to have idle issues when i had a vent to atmo turbosmart BOV (apparently it would stick open )

Now i run no BOV and there is no Idle issue's at all.

Dont know what you mean by backfire. (please elaborate)

But if there is an idle issue there is another problem..

So yeah no BOV rund fine NO issues whatsoever..

PRO_32: I've seen Silvias and a Pulsar GTiR both (i am assuming) where running straight to atmo-BOV's....

Eash time they changed gears there was a loud "crack" sound soming out the exhaust (backfiring)... i sometimes get a litlle "pop" but never anyhting like either of these... it's really loud and like cracking a whip... does that help?

If you don't know what these problems are and you're runnning NO BOV, then I imagine there won't be a problem if i do the same...?
