Having had an R34 with Xeon lights all I can say is once you've experienced it everything else looks pretty weak.

There seems to be some misconception on this site about these lights.

Firstly they are only permitted for low beam as the startup time delay makes them useless for daylight flashing use.

Your Highbeams are a separate globe and from memory the '33 turns it's lowbeam off on highbeam. If this is so just rewire the lowbeams to stay on.

No way will wiring melt, these globes are 35W not 55W halogen and even accounting for ballast losses the total current draw will be less than halogen.

On startup they may draw more power until up to operating temp but that's about a second only.

The pits can pick you for them if they really want too but it seems strange that BMW's Audi's and Lexus run them stock.

If hassled just revert to halogen temporarily.

They are a great safety benefit so any reasonable pit inspector would let them pass.

Cheers

I just recently installed HID in my R33. Highbeams work fine.

Have been past many cops and haven't been picked up yet. The only attention I get is from other cars and pedestrians due to superiority of light compared to the halogen. Make the car look really cool at night..

It would be interesting to know the legalities as they are pretty damn bright!

nah i was saying that from the lil animation on the site, it was saying how it doesn't allow the use of highbeam, or some utter shit like that, i now truly believe the meaning of don't always believe what you read :bonk:

adrian :D

OH MY GOD

For those that have NOT seen xenons in an R33, see if you can hook up with Chris (CC).

Just went for a spin with him following me and then he took me for a drive, and OMFG!! It is totally amazing.

My girlfriend is going to totally hate me now, because I need xenons. It's that simple.

Jason - didn't evolution R muck about a bit before it got it's act together to provide the dials for the last group buy? or am I wrong and should be told to shut up?

it was car quest that did the mucking about cam, evo r seem to have caught the same bug that raymond has...it seems.

how many are outstanding now.

Jason....xenons....will they help you keep up with all the other skylines on the cruise. or are you intending to just fall behind and then fry them with light power

i guess if you install the HID kit, and then angle your lights a little more down than usual, especially in a series II with the different headlights then you could prolly get away with it.

the brightness that is

tilting the lights down does very little as HID throws light out in all directions..

when I tried to get mine levelled, it came up with a blank reading..

i think a special headlight assembly is required, but not 100% sure

I've just spoken with the Technical Department for Vehicle Examinations in Welshpool and have been advised that:

1. Changing Halogen to Xenon is acceptable, only if the Xenon kit complies with ADR (Australian Design Regulations)

2. They will not supply that in writing, because if the product complies WITH ADR, there is no need for you have it in writing.

It was recommended that I contact places like Hella etc, who make Xenon kits and to discuss with them the situation, and because they are fully aware of the ADRs, they should be able to provide me with any further information.

Later today I will contact Hella and possible Bosch, Panasonic and Phillips (all of whom I have seen have some part to play in the creation of Xenon kits, be it the Ballast or the Ignitor systems) and see what I can find out.

Hicks, not all of us have disposable income to go out and purchase things we want/need at a drop of a hat. Xenon lights up the road so much better than Halogen lights, and as I enjoy night cruising, I feel that is it something that *I* need.

    • Anyone want to make me an offer to take my v36/g37 3.7l manual coupe in full? Off memory it was low 100k km but the battery is flat so can't tell right now. What's wrong. I had engine problem's that led to a nice clunk. It made it home but it wasn't pretty for the last few kms. Happened under revs. Sounds like bottom end.. never got around to fully checking or fixing it so the car has sat still and unregistered for a few years. Minor bump in front end set the pedestrian protection under bonnet airbag off and that was meant to be repaired, but while waiting for the repair (parts to come) I got the engine problem. The rest of the car is in decent condition. All drive line is good. All interior is good. Leather interior. Wheels in good condition and decent tyres although the ps4s are likely a little too old now it's sat still. Colour of the car is pewter off memory, the dark grey colour. In Camden NSW. Would need a tray back pickup.

    • I started with the above in my head too, and I might be reading / thinking about what they want wrong, which is why I complicated it a bit further. Purpose I'm seeing is for the corner indicator to be on with headlights, and then if the indicator turns on it can still flash. The relay part above I can see working as required, except in the case of headlight is on, and indicator is on. The change over relay you've wired in would get signal from the indicator, and as it flashes would give power to the globe from the indicator, but as it flashes off, power comes from the headlight, which would cause the indicator to be constantly on when headlight is on, even while indicator change over is flashing. That is unless we don't care if it flashes or not if the headlight is on? I guess that's an OP clarification.
    • HI, Ive got an r34 gtt sedan A/T. The instrument cluster went out and I replaced it with another A/T everything visually looks the same and all the gauges work now with the exception of the speedometer and odometer. The speedo will stay pinned at zero until I'm going about 55kmh and then it'll say Im going about 5kmh. my odometer seems to be tracking at about a 1/10 of what it should. If I go 1km it'll say I've only gone 0.01. Appreciate any and all help. Ive tried searching through the forums reddit and a local fb group. The only info I think I've found is that some cars didnt come equipped with TCS (mind is) and the clusters may be different between those? I've also installed a brand new VSS and no joy obviously. TIA.
    • what speedo healer did you use?
