Recently, i found that my clutch goes from soft and comfy to suddenly very stiff, it is a very shocking transition, but after pumping a few times, it goes back to soft again.

And occasionally, (more like daily now), when the weather gets pretty hot, i sometimes hear a squeal when depressing the clutch pedal, seems like its coming from the pedal, but then sometimes it seems like its coming from elsewhere, like the squeal only starts when the pedal is fully depressed. It sounds like opening a door with unoiled hinges (i'm hoping that's what it is, unoil pivot ball).

So, i think i've narrowed down to these 3 probable issues.

1. Air bubbles in the system

2. Master Cylinder is kaput (well it was $30)

3. pivot ball needs oiling, or destroyed (gearbox out) =(

How now brown cow? Does somebody want to come drive the car for a bit and tell me the issue? =D

It didn't start till the day of my first paper, on the way to my exams, the clutch suddenly became hard, and then lasted that way till i arrived and parked, no leaking fluid, but the reservoir was low. When i finished the paper, clutch was fine again.

Clutch is an OS giken twin plate,

everything else is stock.

I previously had no pressure in my clutch pedal and had to drive around by turning off the engine, putting it into gear1, then starting the engine to move off, rev matching to change gears. The issue was fixed by changing the vac booster, so if anyone is facing the same prob, try it.

There you go, hope i can have an idea what the issue is with the silly car, and then come back and stamp out all those gremlins.

My first guess would be leak somewhere in the clutch booster system (its looks and works like a brake booster, but smaller)

hmm, where is that booster thingy you talk about?

are you talking about the vac booster? next to the master cylinder? that thing is huge though...

Its a lot smaller than the brake booster, lower down and closer to the transmission tunnel - IIRC its probably about 10cms in diameter and yeah it will have the clutch cylinder attached in much the same way as the brake master is attached to the brake booster. Check the vacuum pipe going to it for leaks.

If what i've said doesnt match up with what you see let me know and i'll go and have another look - the above is all from memory, and i have a crap memory...

    • Is the 650rpm idle on the rb25det neo for stock cars only? I've never had my car before and after tuning it to idle at 650rpm when cold. Always idle's cold around 1100rpm, and then drops to about 900-950rpm. I've heard the r33 gtst's idle there.

    • Hi all, I’m currently running a str pipe hi low hks exhaust and downpipe. Was wondering if I change out muffler to a titanium one will it change the sound of the exhaust? Plus I have always liked the look of the titanium pipes … anyone have recommendations to one?    side note already have titanium intake pipes.
    • I looked up my other car that is a R33 GTST series 1.5. Anyone able to confirm what a Aero Form Bumper is?     (1G) 2 Door Coupe; (2GK + 11V) RB25DET; (4B) 2WD HICAS; (7F) 5 Speed Manual; (14G) Super Fine Hard Coat; (15U) Large Rear Spoiler + Aero Form Bumper + Rear Wiper (Aero Selection)
    • Ha ha, all good! I've almost caved in and realised I'm buying one.  I know myself well enough by now that I will start chasing ADHD butterflies half way through building it and not finish it so I'm better off spending the extra money buying one instead of making one just so I can get into straight away.  I would very much enjoy making one as fabrication is probably a strength and definitely a passion but I don't want that to be at the detriment to the car I'm ultimately building it for! There's some pretty good ones around for ~$1100 at the moment so I think I'll just go that way.  At the end I sell it or as mentioned, get another project to make further use of it! Thanks gents.
