Possible Cheap Motorsport Event... Mini Deca @ Atwood?

Recommended Posts

Ok, a friend of mine did this with the Saab club a while back and i looked like quite a bit of fun for only $40! :D:)

Basically, it's using the Atwood driving complex in a different way than what we're use to. For those who've done the Driver Dynamics days there would be familiar with the skid pan, and also the "track" as well for driver training. Well this is using the complex as a 'long wang' of sorts. Close to Melbourne, pretty bloody cheap and looks like you have to be pretty precise as well :)

There was also a reversing comp they were running, but the video doesn't seem to be there anymore. Basically it timed runs through a cone layout whilst in reverse :) I would officially suck at that, but looked like fun.

Here's the Atwood version of the 'long wang'

no offence to the Saab club, but just found this on youtube.... those Porsche guys got the idea!

for the skid pan, should introduce style points for that bit though :D

Does it have my arch-enemy, the armco barrier?

nope, i think here you either take out Mr Portacabin or Mr Gumtree - i think there might be a fence running along side the 'straight'

just watched the Porsche run again, that's a nice little circuit. Should have kept the GTT! :D

i guess the question is do the executive see any merits to the idea? Saab club could run the day for $40, that's great value

hahaha, i have no idea... i would think not but hey... if there is only 1 car/vehicle on the track at one time.... maybe??

Porsche guys obviously take things seriously,

:D

that's why i was thinking for a bit of difference, a panel of judges on the skid pan - so you still have the clock going from start to finish, but you get extra bonus points for your best attempt at full lock action on the pan - 3 judges, scores out of 10

maybe it's seconds OFF your time. So you have your time and you can get a potential of 30seconds off your time if you are a dab hand at opposite lock :D

i searched the Saab club forum, no real info - just basic flyer stuff like 'be there at etc, etc, directions are etc etc' - although there was a nice touch of 'bring a picnic lunch' :D very civilised, Saab owners :D

didn't find much from a Porsche search, but was only a quick google. Found the results :D

is there some specific info you would like and i'll try and dig it up?

If your mates club organised - something basic like a phone number or email would do :D

Just saves myself or someone sitting going through department after department to get to someone (read:hours).

i'll try and get the Saab organiser details - there were more 'skills' tests, like the reverse one, so i'll see if i can get a full run down of the day

but i'll see if i can get the Porsche one as well, they look to have much more involved 'track/motorkhana' setup
