As per the title. Is there any way to stop the car wanting to send drive to the front wheels? Apparently there is a fuse one can pull to turn the car into a rear wheel drive. Anyone know which one it may be?

We got a local car show on this weekend, and have made a last minutes decision to go. I'd love to be able to see what sort of HP my cars got and therefore "stick it" to all the local V8 boys!

Any info you can share would be appreciated!

Ok. No replies... I know, i know. I should of used the SEARCH first. Well I been searching and reading up all night at work. And we got home this morn and pulled out the fuse/circuit breaker for the 4WD system. The light for the 4WD was lit up on the dash, and then we took it for a spin.

This is cut and pasted from another thread on SAU... "its a peice of cake, remove a fuse in the engine bay, drive the car for like 200m just to bleed the pressure out of the front, then away you go. we have 2 customers with 4wd stags that come here. They pull the fuse out at there place then drive it in, by the time they get here, all good to go"

I popped the clutch whilst turning into another street and the Stagea slid sideways and lit up the semi slicks effortless! Whilst doin this a second time, my mate made note to stare at the gauge in the console that tells ya how much drive is goin to the front wheels. It never moved a single millimetre.

So can we be under the assumption that removing said fuse circuit breaker is "basically" the same as an on & off switch for the 4WD system (correct me if i am wrong).

Will my car now be safe for a couple a runs on the 2WD dyno at the local car show? I certainly think it will be!! :P

Hasn't anyone got any info to share on this subject? Surely someone on here has dyno'd their GTR on a 2WD dyno before!?

I have read the thread on here about the subject several times. Without finding a definite answer. Some of the info in it was posted 4years ago.

C'mon guys... help me out!

FWIW R32 GTR attessa is a fuse pull, R33/34 require the front driveshaft pulled because there's a constant preload. Maybe try putting the car on stands and have someone outside watch the front wheels and put it into first ..??

Just got a thought to add. The gauge might just become disconnected when you pull the fuse and that "could" be why it doesn't move. So it might be worthwhile getting it up on stands or a hoist like said above. I have no experience with such a thing so i'm just putting the idea out there.

Not sure what you mean by preload. Car was definitely NOT sending power to the front wheels that I could tell.

I will put it on a hoist morrow and see what happens when all 4wheels are off the ground and the car is in 1st gear.

See answer above. Car smoked the rear wheels today. Its never done that before!

Will see what happens morrow and report back. Thanks guys.

Just because you can't tell, does not mean it's not burning out the clutch packs in the transfer case

I'm not sure if your car is R32 or R33 GTR based

I would be guessing R33 onwards however in which case you MUST drop the driveshaft or you will damage the transfer case.

As far as I know, it's R33 underneath. Will look at removing said shaft when its up on the hoist today.

Thanks for you advice mate.

have a look under your drivers side kick panel there is a green plug with a white connector with 1 wire going in 1 wire going out unplug it its not hard to miss turn ignition on press break pedal 5 times..awd light should start flashing this is supposed to disengage the clutch packs to the front drive shaft..got it off here 3 weeks ago there is a thread about it in the stagea section..think its under tip tronic gear box also posted in the vic section under mt bulla cruise from what was posted on here by someone that reckons it works

he said he has tested it on a hoist and there was no drive to the front wheels at all and says its the recommended way to stop drive to the front wheelsI have posted it up a number of times...

just found it

But here goes again..

Locate the "air bleed" wire behind the drivers kick panel, it's a plug with a single wire either side (usually green socket, white plug).

Disconnect it.

Start car. As key comes back to the ON position, within 10 seconds, depress brake pedal 5 times, 4WD light will start flashing to indicate you are in 2WD mode.

To go back to 4WD mode, turn car off, reconnect plug and off you go.

I have hooked mine to a switch in the centre console.

It works 100%.

It releases ALL pressure from the transfer case, if there was any load on the clutch plates then the front wheels would engage. I have even tested on the hoist, there is not even a hint of movement from the front wheels. If there was any pressure on the clutch plates then one would assume the front wheels would start turning, even a little bit, but that isn't the case.

I'm getting sick of posting up THAT IT WORKS. We have even had an RS4V on the dyno using this method and the transfer case isn't broken.

I beat up on my wagon at Powercruise all weekend in 2WD and my transfer case isn't broken, 4WD still works 100%, when I want it to.

Please stop scaremongering and propagating rumours. If you don't believe me that it works, DO YOUR OWN EXPERIMENTS. If you're too scared to, then don't bother, forget even thinking about it and enjoy your 4wd for what it is.

Mate! Thanks for such indepth replies!

I will give this a go today. So is there no need to pull the 4WD fuse from the engine bay. I only have to follow the instructions posted above?

as far as what was written in the original post no you dont have to pull out the fuse..i copied everything that was posted about it so you have as much info as me thats as much as i can tell you...if you try it can you let me know if it works

    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
