Well I don't know why everyone's cars would be different, but my 4WD light only comes on when I lock the front diffs, i.e. lock it in 4WD. I've done this a couple of times because I didn't think the front torque gauge was working (since it never moved!).

I haven't had a chance to drive mine in the wet yet, so I'll see what it does, but it usually just grips and goes. I don't have mods yet though.

From my understanding and experience with the car so far, I don't think it is a full 4WD system. Its on demand, and RWD unless you give it a damn good reason not to be (I haven't found any). Maybe Nissan let the fun police go home early the day they developed it and allowed a bit of slip?

there is an amber '4WD' light and also an amber 'slip' picture. the slip picture turns on and off with the SYNC button.

the 4WD light is a warning light. when mine is on, my car is RWD. also more fun to drive, but needs LSD (the diff not the drug, but im sure the drug would help)

I've never been able to light up the tyres. Before or after my mods...

That's pretty much I expected from my car. 4WD with grippy tyres should = no wheel spin. Maybe a little in very greasy conditions....

In the dry it is not possible to spin the rears unless going around a corner but in the WET, that is another story. I can regularly get the rears to spin in 1st mostly as the revs build through 2800 - 3300rpm and then the fronts grab and the car hauls away.

It's been wet here so that is my experience for now. And yes, around a low speed corner it seems very easy, but I got the feeling that my fronts weren't doing a lot & that the rears would just keep on spinning. One time I was way past 3300rpm (closer to redline) and they were still going.

I take this is when u "launch" the car?

Actually, I haven't tried that yet. Last night I was idling thru an inch of water over a road and when I came out the other side the road was dryish (but tyres soaked). I accelerated briskly (but not tromped) and off course the rears let go (this time a straight line BTW). I backed off before the auto changed into 2nd, but they were still spinning well past 5000+ rpm.

The thing is the car was still accelerating pretty hard, which it wouldn't do if it was only RWD & they were spinning. So there must be some torque transfer to the fronts, but not enough for my liking (& safety).

So I'm still not 100% sure if there is something aftermarket controlling the torque in my car, but it appears that it's not quite normal.:huh:

You may be right :thumbsup: . I was on an isolated country road last night and so I'm glad the other variety weren't around as I would've attracted some unwanted attention. And that is so unlike me.

I could barely get the gauge to read 10 stock, now its powered up I can pin it to the end so it is definitely torque input related. It will transfer mainly using the G sensor from what I have seen. When it does, I get driveline vibration, mainly under hard acceleration.

The system normally operates 95% rear 5% front until the sensors sense slip at the rear when they transfer more to the front. The synchro button will set it to 50/50 from rest but once it attains a certain speed (about 30km'hr but ican't remembers - did see it somewhere) the Atessa computer takes over again regardles of the position of the switch. The 4wd light comes on if you pull out the fuse or if the Atessa fluid level is low. Possibly some other circumstances but I only know the first two for sure.

I was wrong, I tested it today and it shows the syncro light, with the four wheels and the S in circle. I only see the actual 4WD light when I first start it up.

But KiwiRS4T is definately wrong about the M35 4WD system. Definately 100% rear under normal circumstances. I've also driven at 100km/h with the syncro button in and torque is still sent to the front.

No, wheels spin in the wet is relatively achieved in my experience. It is only for a short time until the front increases speed and wheel spin stops.

As for the Synco & Snow switch they only have effect (50/50 split) to 40kph and then it is back to demand.

    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know. 
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
