I've got a N/A Skyline r33 series 1 running on an rb20de, I'm a P plater so restrictions apply and all that bs. I'm just wondering what type of BOLT ON modifications i could make to the car to increase preformance/ eco, When i purchased the car it had sports extractors 2.5 straight thru exhaust with a 3.0 straight thru muffler (Which has been sized down to 2.5 because its just loosing power) anyway are there any other reasonably cheap mods i can do? spent most of my cash on the car so yeah, got like 300 bucks left I'm thinking im best off just keeping my money for something else after all It's only an rb20de

Why would you buy an RB20DE equipped R33 GTS? You know technically they weren't legal to import into the country because their power/weight ratio is so terrible?

To answer your question, no there isn't. Keep the $300 towards a service or something.

Lol, cheers for the advice but i usually do most minor services myself+ I plan to buy a R32GTR when I'm off my P's and sell my R33, but while I'm on my P's I'll stick with the r33, The answer to your question why would i buy one? is because the guy with the RB25DE skyline wrapped it around a poll so it was my second option. I'd much rather an R33 thats down on power as opposed to a excel or some shit like that :P . PS- I'm curious as to what the power to weight ratio is in an r33 gts they weigh 1450kg correct?

in your case with the rb20E (the rb20 that came standard in the r33 is a single cam, not like a twin cam like in the r32, unless yours has had an engine swap), the power to weight would be pretty shocking. a lancer would be faster (as it would have similar power and less weight).

the following figures are approximate figures

rb20e r33 = 75kw/ton

rb25de r33 = 115kw/ton

rb20de r33 (if it has had an engine swap) = 90kw/ton

as for what to do to get more power, well there isn't much worth doing if your car has a rb20 in it. you'd be best of selling it and getting a rb25 powered one. even with mods your car will still be slower than a dead stock rb25 powered one

It's RB20DE It had been swapped by a previous owner when it was imported in 2001

If it has an rb20de conversion then it is illegal. R33's only came with Rb20e and Rb25de motors in the non turbo models, therefore your car is technically illegal for you to drive. So this voids your insurance, and if you get pulled up you are going to get done for driving a car with an engine out of a different model car.

If it had an rb20e or rb25de then it would be legal to drive as those engines came out in the r33 originally.

Also use the search bar you dumbarse, there is literally hundreds of threads on this topic because you idiots never search.

For you, short answer is...

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN N/A SKYLINE, YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT ANY FASTER WITHOUT SPENDING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, END OF DISCUSSION.

There is NO exceptions, your N/A will never ever be fast. The fastest / most powerful N/A skyline in Aus as far as I know is a 150rwkw r31 with an rb26/30de motor which has had copious amounts of money spent on it, and even then, a stock 5 speed 3.5L magna is faster then it.

just pointing out to people that it isn't me talking about a magna, LOL

individual throttlebodys fitted are about $5000

engine rebuild with bore and hone and 50thou 11:1 compression pistons is about $5000 do it yourself price

good exhaust system is about $2000

ECU and tune is about $3000

fuel system upgrade is about $2000

thats just a rough $17,000 for 170Kw-180Kw

thats why people like spending 17,000 on a turbo motor more than a N/A

I rebuilt my engine and put 50thou pistons in and spent like $2000 getting everything cost price and worked myself on it and it did nothing really its about 120Kw at all four

$300 won't get you far with a 2.0l NA in a 1.3 tonne vehicle. If you start looking around at modifications that WILL make a noticeable difference (computer/tune, full intake/exhaust and cams etc.) it'll cost more than the car.

Your best bet is to build the rest of the car the way you like it ie:

-Interior

-Exterior

-Suspension/handling

-Wheels/tyres

(some stuff is cheap, quick, easy and gives you a sense of achievement)

etc if you plan on keeping it, then start looking for power after that. IE. a RB25DET conversion.

First reply that has been decent besides one other, the rest of the 'mature' people on this form have decided to flame about RB20E's and how my R33 with RB20DE is illegal, although i really dont care it's only a daily and I'm looking to sell it as soon as I'm off my P's which most people seem to forget I'm on so i cant drive Turbos hence the reason i bought a Non turbo skyline. I dont intend to spend big money on this car so what you have said is perfect Thank-you and I will hopefully be selling it and buying a R33 GTR once i am off my P's

Mate, I asked for an opinion not a life story so don't give me all your bullshit, I'm new to the forums and didn't search if your tired of repeating yourself about how this topic is over posted, THEN DON'T POST A REPLY. This section of the forum is based on N/A Preformance I wasn't asking to get flamed about my 'slow' Skyline alright? Don't bother replying k cheers. PS- No need to be such a bitch about it I just asked, obviously you've got a problem with that

R32 GTR not R33 sorry for the double posting

I only went to that extent because every noob makes the SAME THREAD. Why don't you search before making a thread and you will find your answers without wasting space. And previous times I have told people the same thing in a much less aggressive manner and they never seem to get it through their heads. My post is a decent post as it is the facts. It is true, whether you want to accept it or not is your own decision. You can learn yourself how far you will get with $300 haha, and if you do in fact waste money on it, I gurantee you, you will be disappointed.

If your topic is not completely new, and their has never been an answer to your question posted before in another thread, then fair enough, making the topic is logical, however this is just one of many

'I have an N/A Skyline, how do I make it fast Hurrr Durrr'. Therefore, its existence is pointless.

p.s Just so you know, I also own an N/A Skyline.

you will care if you get pulled over and booked for having an illegal engine modification. i'm not saying that you should go rushing out to put the rb20E back into it, just be aware that you do run the risk of being fined.

my advice is don't spend a cent trying to make it go faster, or even really to make it look better. it isn't worth it, especially if you are only going to sell it in a few years. you would be better off putting the money towards your next car. if you were to do anything i would suggest putting a stock rb25DE in there. will be no more illegal than what you currently have in there, and will probably be the best bang for your buck mod you could do. since you could then sell the current motor that is in there and get a lot of your money back (since i don't think you would need much more than the motor itself and an ecu. should nearly be able to run it off the existing wiring loom)

correct me if I am wrong. but you are looking for mods yet you are a p plater. Mods are illegal for P Platers. cops and insurance may allow an aftermarket exhaust but I have always thought that extractors are considered engine mods and hence illegal.

so if your going to drive a car that the cops consider illegal you may as well just get a turbo and be done with it.

if your looking for a car with power that you can legally drive ( and please dont flame me) the VN Commodore is a good care wont look as good as your r33 but would no doubt beat it every time.

    • OK, well, in that case, the suspension specialist is either a moron, or you aren't understanding what he was trying to tell you. Nismo arms are not really different than stock arms. Both are fixed geometry. I don't know if the Nismo ones are a little shorter than the stockers (or perhaps even a little longer) or the same length, but....if you swap from stock to Nismo, whatever happens to one side will happen to the other side. It will not cause it to steer left or right. That is unless you have adjustable bushes in your stockers, and they happen to be adjusted to dial out some bent chassis shenanigans. But, if that were the case, you'd just put adjustables in the Nismo arms anyway, because Nismo arms are essentially just expensive stock arms. And doing a wheel alignment is just a weekly thing in my world. I have had the suspension apart so many times this year that I've lost count and just about worn out a torque wrench. I'm out in the shed right now cutting up some alloy section and making bases for my new stringline setup. Got to make new swivel plates next, then I'm good to do toe properly, as well as camber and bump steer.
    • Yeah, nah. Not a thing. The gasket between the top of the plenum and the runners is far more likely to blow out when it gets old, and not really at ~14 psi. These things have been run to double that for 30 years without that being a common thing.
    • I plan to pull the intake manifold off and check the gaskets, i read that the block to manifold gasket can blow over 14psi and when i picked up the car it was set to 1.2bar on the controller. Send the injectors out for cleaning. Ill also pull the cam covers off and do an inspection, check some valve lash. Someone also said that the timing belt can rub or vibrate against the belt cover and make that sound. Definitely need to get an AFR gauge on it, if it was lean idling im sure it wont be happy
    • Well, it is an unusual noise. Use a 2 foot long bit of garden hose stuck in your ear as a stethoscope to pin it down to a definite location. We'll never work it out across the internet.
