Just fitted a Momo steering wheel. It went on fine with no problems but i had to remove the Hicas sensor as the new boss didn't fit on top. I've had a Hicas lockout bar fitted so there's no problem there.

I followed this 'HOW TO' guide.

The bit where you take the green wire out is where i lose it. Because the Hicas sensor is no longer on the column, where is the wire from the horn?

I've got 2 wiring blocks........1 on the left of the column and 1 underneath.

My apologies for the blurred pics but it was dark.

Here's a pic of the sensor that i took off before fitting the boss.

As you can see the black pin at the bottom and the wiring entry into the sensor to the right stops the boss from fitting on top. That's why i took it off.

Is there a boss that will fit onto this sensor?

The black connecter has 3 wires. A blue,a red and a yellow.

The white connecter has 2 wires. A black and a yellow.

Someone on here must have put an aftermarket steering wheel onto a spec2 R33 and done away with the airbag and Hicas !?!?!?!?!?

I need to know if you used a cheapie boss that fitted over the above Hicas sensor.

What type was it ?

Thanks guys

Hicas Boss Kit

I have this boss kit. and my HICAS works fine. Just have to make sure you put it on right. It will fit on a few ways but only one way will engage the HICAS properly.

On second thoughts looking at your pic but, It looks like you might have a S2, In which case you might need one designed for an air bag fitted car, but it should be on the Just Jap site anyway.

Yes bud I have an S2 Model R33. The car has an airbag but I've removed the original wheel and fitted an aftermarket Momo wheel without an airbag.

With that in mind, do I still need an airbag compatible boss?

I know I need a Hicas compatible boss for the electrics to work. Didn't think the lack of airbag was a problem when picking a boss.

Your Hicas sensor is a bit different to mine in the series one. I guess cause of the air bag.

The boss kit you need should have a little hole for the little stubby bit of plastic sticking out there. It should rotate that part with the steering wheel. Because you've got a lock bar and have taken the light out it shouldnt be to much of an issue if it doesnt rotate it perfectly. Mine had an issue where I had the boss kit on wrong, and it was not contacting the tab immediatly when turning the wheel, which bought up a warning when I drove above 80kmh for a while. But as I said that shouldnt be an issue with you with the lock bar and HICAS light removed.

But I think because with the sensor removed there will be a gab between the steering wheel and whatever that it probably wont work, your horn will be weird to get around to..... So easiest way would be just to buy the HICAS/AIRBAG Boss kit.
