R34 Gtt Turbo

Hey

Two weeks ago i installed a screamer pipe on my stock turbo [for shit n giggles] but after it was on when i boosted it i could hear a high pitch spool noise like from a upgraded turbo. I was told it was my turbo dying by a friend. Today i put my stock dump back on and the sound was gone, do you guys think there is a problem?

What should I be looking at, intake side or exhaust side of the turbo? and what specifically should i look out for?

Pretty sure it would've been an exhaust leak. Most likely the turbo -> dump connection. Those bolts are common to rattle themselves loose, I reckon 1 or 2 of those might've been loose, then when you put the dump back on you tightened them up better.

Do you remember any of the bolts being loose when you put the stock dump back on?

Maybe have a look at the turbo intake piping and the cooler piping, might have a leak.

Does the car idle and boost fine? no missing or anything?

all bolts where tight as hell and annoying to take off. i dont get why it made the noise with the sscreamer pipe on and not now. it boosts fine and not missing at all. it idles fine

Yeah odds are the dump -> turbo join was leaking. Maybe the flange of the dump was warped, is was a cheap part...

just went to fill up and get food and i could hear clicking noises when it started to spool and loud clicking on boost.

the car is my daily, should i still drive it carefully or just leave it until i change the turbo?

it is off, only had it on to screw around for abit. put my stock dump back on yesterday and i can hear the clicking/ticking noise with the stock dump on. its not super loud but its pretty noticeable

anyone tell me if its safe to drive the car or not? its my daily and i have no other car =\

well the dump gasket look ok to me when i changed the screamer to stock yesterday, its a factory metal one. is there anyway of checking to see if the manifold ones leaking without taking the turbo off?

was easy to see in mine, because one of the nuts was fingertight when i went to look...

you could try to listen and pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from?

but it only makes the clicking noise when it starts to spool up and not on idle

metal gaskets are not reusable, probably what is leaking.

best to totally rule out the gaskets then go looking at a possible damaged turbo...

But since it all happened after you played with taking the dump on and off, my bet it is in the turbo to dump gasket

it made the ticking noise for a month before i change the dump. its just gotten louder since i changed the dumps.

i have a spare gasket for my dump but its one of those crappy paperish ones. should i just put some gasket glue in it and see what happens?
