Can't wait to get mine. Has anyone been stopped by police so they can just have a look at the car? A friend of mine was pulled over like that in his Lancer Ralliart.

Ive noticed the v36 doesnt even attract public attention. Unlike my last wrx which had everyone turn their heads, this car gets almost nothing, unless the person is aware of what it is.

Same here Vic, rarely get stared at as most people think it's a Merc/BMW or something lol

I have had quite a few comments and thumbs up etc. from other imports before though, they knew what it was straight away, but most people still no clue what it is until they see "SKYLINE" on the back. The good thing is you don't get the racer idiots in their Commonwhores lining up to race you, in fact I've only had the odd couple try to race in 3 months of owning it. Most people just give the occasional glance and that's it and some randoms have pulled up and talked to me before but that's it. The R34 is MUCH worse for attention, but that is hardly discreet though.

Hi Mikhail,

Personally, I have never been stopped for random breath test or anything, but some of my friends with other imports had been stopped.

You just have to be polite, don't try to be a smart-arse and never argue back. Then you will be all right. :P

V36 are really nice cars, totally different from original Skyline heritage (Which is good if you don't want the same old attraction the R-series get).

I wish the same could be said for the 35. I see the idiots comin from waaaaay back in traffic (not always commodores). They're bustin' it to catch me up and either "have a go" or pull in front of me when there was a 4 car length space behind me. Everyone needs to get in front of the skyline FFS !!!!!!

end rant/ :)

Maybe they want to see what your car is? :P

I haven't got like that yet, just some occasional speed-ups past me. But when I get angry of their driving behaviour, I let them hear my V6 engine note. :whistling:

Yeah that's what the R34 was like to drive, it's very frustrating.

I was actually thinking about this thread when I was being tailgated by some muppet in her Territory today, I just braked late and hard and she got the picture and overtook me. V36 330mm rotors FTW! :)

I don't understand tailgating on a multi-laned road when you're doing the speed limit and keeping to the far left lane, what else do you want from my life? My car is going to decelerate MUCH faster than your heavier SUV with crap brakes, what's so hard to understand?

Hey Steve,

Maybe you were thinking about "Naturally S**t Drivers" thread (Unless you were tailgated by a cop :P ).

Anyhow, you made a point. Maybe she was thinking she got bigger car than you, so also comes with bigger brakes, bigger engine and faster. :teehee:

Maybe the driver in the territory was just trying to have a closer look at the V36 lol.

  • 3 weeks later...

This will erupt an old topic,

Having my V35 sedan for just a month, I had a near miss on New Years Eve. I was following the speed limit on the side streets and then all of a sudden a police officer came out in the middle of the road and instructed me to pull over and show me my license. You see, my jap-spec exhaust, when accelerating, makes a nice throaty note. Anyway, he was accusing me of speeding, which was not the case. He then made comments like "Have I been in trouble with the authorities?, Do I need my License? etc etc" He then let me off saying to "...be careful as there are alot of crazy kids running around" and that "..I should be more mindful as you got your girlfriend in the car"

I've had my V35 Coupe for about 3 years now. Been pulled over a total of 3 times. This is up in QLD.

1. 5 minutes after having it registered on the 1st day of ownership - showed the cops the plates and they took off - the fact that my 85 year old dad was sitting next to me probably didn't hurt either :P.

2. RBT - This is after I put a huge custom exhaust on (with baffles). Counted to 10 and left.

3. Forgot to put my lights on in the city - it was really bright and I just didn't notice. Cop pulls me up and is about to go off - he had been tailing us for a block 1st in heavy traffic - sees me in a suit and my wife in business clothes. Stops in shock - tells us that the lights were off and walks off. Think he was upset cause he saw the word SKYLINE on the back....

Besides that the cops leave me alone. Lots of P platers in Fords and Commodores keep wanting to race me though. Most import cars tend to have a look and just keep driving.

"Have I been in trouble with the authorities?...". :) . If you had been, that might probably have effect on his decision making.

Well, lucky you wasn't speeding.

I reckon, when cops (some, not all) see the badge "SKYLINE", they will likely pay more attention to it.

Once, in WA, I was driving behind a quite "done-up" BMW 3-series coupe. A police car drove past slowly (at traffic lights) in opposite way, and the passenger cop looked and pointed at mine while talking to his driver cop.

What about that BMW with big wheels and lowered? :P

Pulled over by the cops yesterday.....Was driving in newtown and saw the padiwagon pull out of a side street just after i passed. Was raining and thankfully i was taxi driving my grandmother home so that helped. Made me count to 10, he then accused me of having alcohol in my breath. He then made me blow into the machine and there was no reading =D, he then looked around the car at my P plates checked my rego sticker then let me off after he said he could give me a $200 fine for having the rego sticker underneath the dark tint on the windscreen. I think he was unhappy he couldn't give me a ticket.

    • Photo of manifold showing gate location? I mean, it's 6Boost, so we probably shouldn't be worrying, but always wroth knowing what the layout is. Plumbed back to atmosphere? Or into the dump?
    • Yes correct. Also, I'd avoid applying it to soft paint (however I doubt you'll ever have to deal with it in practice). So any paint that hasn't fully hardened, could be a 1k paint that never fully hardened or it could be a 2k paint that was laid down thick and hasn't yet fully hardened.
    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
