Hey guys,

So first of all, im new here so pleased to meet you all. Seems like alot of good information here, and a wonderful community so look forward to meeting you all and learning tons :)

Bit about myself, bit of a geek. Love to game. Software developer and website developer/hoster :) Getting more into the car scene now that I finally quit WoW ;) (yay)

So, basically im now on my opens!! (wooooo) so I've dropped off the P plates and decided to get a new car. I'm selling my old 300zx on carsales for bit of cash to try buy a Turbo skyline.

I am still in love with the 300zx so this is where im hoping you guys can come in to help :)

Should I buy a Twin Turbo'd 300zx, or a Turbo skyline. I been trying to weigh up pros and cons... I could be way off, so please tell me if so :)

Skyline: Cheaper, Tougher, less attractive, everyone has one - so easy parts?

300zx: Expensive, had bad experiences.., sexy, rarer to see around here

Im looking at wanting to spend no more then $9000 on a Skyline. But not sure if thats a reasonable price? Not after the fastest thing in the world, as I'm wanting to get the mods and stuff myself

Also, is it the same as the 300zx saying is: "Have an excel for a daily". Or are skylines still okay for daily driving to and from work (10 min drive)

Also, not a guru with mechanic side of things, and as I've learnt a 300zx isn't very good to get around under the bonnet. Is a skyline easier to learn things and get to places?

Welcome to the forum mate.

Anyways, I reckon 300's look better but the vg30 is plain shit-house, you could drop in an sr20 but your prolly looking at more than 9000 in that case. Parts wise , shouldn't be too hard but not as easy as a skyline.

On the other hand, skylines are quicker off the bat, a lot easier to make decent power, a lot easier to work on and you could pick up a decent one for 7000 odd and still have change for some mods.

As for daily driving they're a bit thirsty but relatively easy to drive depending on power, clutch etc.

At the end of the day its purely up to you mate.

Happy driving!!

P.S Stay away from WoW, it is pure evil.devil.gif

Well I am looking for a car that is easy to work on, and that I can mod easily/cheaply. I know with my 300, its a nightmare to get anywhere to do anything to it. Bit frustrating t times.

I am aiming more towards a skyline, but also love the uniqueness.

What are skylines like for life? ie: keeping fluids up, not redlining etc...

Yeah, you gotta watch the revs, missing a gear at high rpm can do some damage but they don't mind it if driven properly.

As for fluids/filters, they're pretty much the same as any other car. They do like good oil though.

Personally I think they're very reliable if looked after properly, only problem I have is rust, and thats only cause its an 89 model.

oh boy, another thread to make engine out jokes, LOL.

skylines are much easier to work on since they haven't crammed an engine in which you pretty much have to take out just to check the oil level.

skylines are also faster and handle better.

for a daily driver it should be fine provided you keep the mods relatively minor. if you start putting big turbos on, etc then it loses some of it's reliability as well as economy for the daily run.
