yeah its one of those series 1.5 kinda things, nissans own mix and match special :)

thanks dino

just took it to another garage and he had a look and guessed it could be a lash adjustor??
Jimbo2000 I thought the same of mine, as did a few workshops, and pulled the head down and it was not the lash adjusters but number 3 big end. Drain the oil and look for gold sparkles and flakes...sure sign of the bearing damage. Hope it isn't tho. You can get ACL race heat treated mains for RB30 and SR20 big ends for about 140 though plus machining if it is.
Is it the variable valve timing solenoid? It's the protruding knob in front of the inlet on cylinder one, when the motor is ticking put your finger on it - if it's dancing in sync to the clicking sounds then enrol it in an all boy band. Or disconnect it and see if the ticking goes away.

So if you did as DB said you can strike this option.

UPDATE:

took car to garage this morning and just called them to hear them say its fixed, he said he just did an oil change again but with a special PensOil Turbo oil that he imports from the US, as i said he works a lot with RX7's and he says its the goods for them.

picking it up tonight and we'll see.
