Hey Guys,

New here and looking for advice.

Looking at my first skyline (r32 GTS-T) and have been informed that it doesnt have A/C installed any longer because of the FMIC being installed. Does that sound right?

Given that how much do you think it would cost to replace all the parts and would it be possible to do it myself? Assuming its missing only the piping, stillneed to ask the owner what exactly is missing. Dont see why the condensor would have been removed?

Also if the paints fading on the roof in one spot, do you think its possible for it to never become peeling clearcoat? if i keep an eye on it?

Also is it common for gearboxes to crunch from 2nd to 3rd when going hard? I know that r32 gearboxes are known for being weak spots but is this bad? Possibly synchros or maybe clutch? Anyone have a rough cost of a gearbox?

Thanks guys for any help

Cheers

ok i'll answer this in a few parts.

1: the aircon to be missing due to a FMIC install sounds a bit dodgy. if it has been removed then it comes down to how much of it has been removed as to how much it costs to get it replace. could be a few hundred dollars, could be much more.

2: as for paint fading on the roof, it is only a matter of time before the clear coat lifts. the damage has already been done. you may be able to make it take a bit longer for it to happen, but i don't think by too much. that said, it may be years before the clear actually lifts.

3: it is pretty common for the gearbox to have a bit of a clunk between first and second. r32's are old cars now (around 20 years old now), and the second gear synchro is the one that gets the most wear since it is used everytime you take off, and when people floor it off from the lights, etc, it is the one that then gets all the abuse since it is being changed under very high load. the cost of getting it replaced would be more than it's worth.

Chances are as well if there are these things wrong it may not have been looked after very well and there might be more wrong with it, suspension, diff etc...

Personally i would steer clear of anything major wrong with a used r32 unless you know exactly what you are doing mechanically - there are heaps of clean ones about still why bother messing with paint and gearboxes.

not much. r32 gts-t (and r33 gts-t for that matter) aren't worth much these days. i wouldn't pay much more than about $6000 for it if it has faded paint and missing bits of the aircon.

Yea thats the exact price i was thinking...but owner wont come down that far.

Yea i guess theres plenty of them out there but I'm yet to find many that look good (without horendous body kits etc) for less then 9k. And thats probably why I;m stumbling across the not so good examples.

Is there many r32's out there that wouldnt have paint issues?

Just out of curiosity how much would a respray cost?

Thanks again.

    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
    • yeah, there's a country that recently started importing Skylines, I blame them.
