Now if it had been a Skyline...we would probably see Skyline or "Nissan sports coupe" littered throughout the article. But I'm guessing most people still don't know what a Soarer is. This can be done in any car, yes, but it is definitely more tempting in a sports car (assuming they were actually driving unsafely).

Good reminder to drive safely ladies and gents, myself included. No one is above physics, even if you disagree with laws.

A MAN has been killed in what has been described as a hooning incident on the Burwood Highway this morning.

Police have been told two cars were driving at high speed, one behind the other, along a stretch of the highway in Burwood East about 12.30am.

It's believed the second car crashed after the first swerved, crossed a median strip and crashed into the pole.

The driver of the first car, believed to be in his early 20s, died after he lost control of his car and smashed into a power pole.

A passenger, also in his 20s, was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Police believe the cars were travelling in excess of 100km/h in an 80km/h zone.

"A lot of this behaviour, Mad Max 3, and Fast and Furious, it doesn't work on our road system," a police spokesperson told radio station 3AW.

The passenger suffered a suspected broken right leg and left arm.

The driver of the second car was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police have found the second car in the vicinity of the crash.

A man is assisting police with their inquiries.

The fatality brings Victoria's road toll for the year to 275, compared to 263 at this time last year.

Police are asking anyone who saw the two cars to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000 or to visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.

thats a bit harsh. they were doing ~100kph in an 80 zone. thats a 3 point offence. not some crazy off the charts lunatic behaviour.

HAHAHA!!!! they cant even drive at 100ks...thats lame...also its believed to be 100 ks but i am sure they were doing much much more than that...

bit generous calling a soarer a sports car

very true...they are literally a boat...dont know why 33s are called boats and soarer a sports car...ehhh...

Yes we established it was a Soarer in the OP :)

Make no mistake, Soarers are fast cars for what they are. In twin turbo guise I've clocked 0-100 times in 6 seconds flat and the power does not die off after 100km/h. That's nothing to sneeze at for a stock vehicle.

Just heard that this was actually a 20 year old learner driving the car.

I'm also tipping they were doing more than 100km/h...road might have been damp and the rear end stepped out when he planted his foot. All speculation, but it's still scary how easily this can happen. I just wish the guy had a chance to learn his mistakes without dying. Experience = hardest teacher. Test first, lesson afterwards...if you survive the test.

I think they are calling it a hoon crash because two cars were involved in dangerous manouvres...if it was a Camry involved they would probably still say that. But it is much easier to say it given it was a Soarer...lest we forget the devil's words: "turbo car".

Yeap was driving up burwood hwy last night at 2am. 7 cop cars. Ambo. Everything. Saw the car and omfg. Literally 30cm or less of roof left. And yes it was damp so it would have stepped out.

And harsh the impact was at 100k. I'm sure they were going faster than that before he lost control

True that, but it if was a camry that crashed it would have been a 'unfortunate accident'.

Burwood highway always have cars travelling at high speeds, some of them well above the speed limit.

RIP to that guy's family, but seriously why was a 20 year whos still on his L plates driving a soarer?

You can drive anything on your L's but not aloud to drive turbo/V8/High powered 6 on your P's.

Stupid if you ask me.

I used to think so too, but it does make sense when you take into account L plater restrictions would make many parents have to buy a less powerful vehicle for their kid just to learn in - whilst a good thing that they learn their limitations in an underperforming vehicle, not every family can afford another set of rego/insurance/car, atleast until the kid is 18 and can buy it for himself/herself. And we really don't need anymore excuses for kids to get less experience on their L plates.

Learners are actually the safest drivers on the road, from what I hear. So the vehicle doesn't really come into it, it's because they have a teacher/parent in charge of their attitude while they are driving.

Just heard that the learners permit this guy had didn't even belong to him, he had fraudulent documents and everything :/
