Hey guys. Just wondering if any of you could tell me if the VL starter motor would hook up to an RB20 box or would i need to get an RB20 starter motor? I'm doing my first real car so im pretty new to all this but im learning as i go. I'm also after a clutch fork if anyone knows where i could get one or has one for sale. I've also heard from a few people that the RB20 box will be no good on the RB30 but seeing as i found this out after i bought the box, i was thinking i would stick it out with the RB20 box and see how i go. Is it worth doing this or should i just cut my losses and take the RB20 box back and pay the extra $900 for the RB25 box? Thanks guys.

is the VL natro or turbo? if natro it should be fine. if it's turbo, as long as the rb20 box is from a turbo rb20 then it should be fine also. even if the box is from a natro rb20 it will more than likely be fine as well.

I'm pretty sure its an N/A motor converted to turbo. The turbo is drained to the block but the guy i bought it off said it was N/A converted to turbo. It had the N/A injectors but i've bought a set of 434cc GTR injectors. I've had the whole engine reconditioned, would i be better off to start it for the first time with the N/A injectors or will it be right to just go straight with the GTR ones? The box is from an RB20 turbo.

Yeah thats what i've heard too. I dont drive too crazy but im gonna want to give it a bit every now and then. I also bought an RB30 clutch kit cause it was cheap as on ebay and then i ended up getting an RB20 box. Will the RB30 clutch fit the RB20 box?

it comes down to what the ecu is expecting the injectors to be. if it is a natro ecu then it will start on the natro injectors, but i highly doubt it will on the GTR injectors, and if it does, it won't idle for long before it stalls since rb20e injectors are only 185cc from the info i can find, so with the GTR injectors it would be putting in well over twice the fuel. ECU's don't automatically know how big injectors are, so if you put in bigger injectors it will put in more fuel. if you want to use the GTR injectors straight away then you will need some form of aftermarket ecu (whether it be a piggyback, remapped ecu or aftermarket such as a PFC, etc) that allows you to alter the injector size.

that said, if it is a turbo ecu and NA injectors then it won't start that well, however probably still better than with the GTR injectors.

I just bought a Manual RB30 Turbo ECU with a stage 3 performance chip, will this run the GTR injectors better? Also what size are the O-rings on the standard GTR injectors? Are they 14mm or 11mm? I think i might need to buy a new fuel rail but i dont know which one i need.

unless the ecu was tuned for GTR sized injectors it will be no better than the stock ecu. also what sort of chip is in the ecu? is it one of those powerchip type ones that you can't tune? if so, they are a major waste of time and money. if it is something that has been tuned by a tuner and you can have it retuned then you should be able to take it to a tuner and have them simply change the injector size to the GTR size in the settings (depending on ecu setup) and then you will be able to atleast run the car, however you should still get it fully tuned once you have the car on the road as you may end up damaging the motor if the tune doesn't suit your car.

generally "stage X" stuff when it comes to ECU's are a load of crap. they are usually just generic tuned stuff and won't give the power gains of an individually tuned ecu, since it will be done specifically for your car. if you walk into a workshop and asked a tuner to give your car a "stage 3 tune" you'd find that it is more than likely the exact same tune as you would get if you asked for a stage 1 tune, lol. a tuner simply tunes an ecu to be at a certain AFR and timing that isn't going to make it ping.

    • Racetronix also sells those ethanol content sensor bypass blocks. Adapter, Flex-Fuel E85 Sensor High-Flow Bypass, In-line No Sensor (ADF-FLEX-NS): Adapters - Flex Fuel | Racetronix Ethanol content sensor are originally designed to be on the feed line. These bypass blocks are meant to be ran in the feed line and not return. The continental ethanol content sensors have a 3/8" ID and not 5/16". This is why they are ran on the return line directly in conjunction with a low threshold sampling value VS in the feed with one of these blocks.    Haha we think alike, I used both original feed/return for 8AN feed, and one of the Hicas lines as a 6AN return. I also capped off and left the other Hicas line as a spare.
    • Interesting, I haven't read about the issue with oil getting into the speedo in the cluster before. I'll have to take more notice with mine. The speedo on my R32's when I've run factory diff and tyre size have never been accurate as far as I can remember. The non Type-M GTS-t did come with 15" 5 stud wheels and smaller brakes, but that's less than 5% of them.
    • Good to hear the condenser you picked up off my brother worked all good. Do you think there could be an issue with your AC compressor itself or the clutch on it then? I don't know a lot about them so I can't really help but keen to hear what it ends up being. Keep the build thread going man, it's nice to look back on over time.
