Hey guys

Im looking into getting either an Apexi SAFC neo or a Greddy emanage blue. My primary goal is lowering fuel consumption, but it would be good to have a unit that would be versatile for producing more power later on with more mods.

Currently only engine mods are:

  • Full HKS exhaust with high flow cat
  • Boost controller running 11 Psi
  • Plans for an FMIC in the next couple of months

To my some what limited understanding the apexi unit only controls fuel settings where as the emanage also controls other settings such as ignition timing and boost. So my question is which unit have you guys used and which do you think is the better option with my setup? Is either better at controlling fuel consumption then the other? Any input is appreciated cheers guys

Neither of those units are very versatile, Emanage ultimate would be better but you really cant go past a Nistune on a budget. Find a reputable local tuner and use what he recommends.

I looked into nisstune aswell, 1300 bucks is a bit out of my current budget, heard of anyone in the sydney area who does it cheaper? Ideally id like to spend like 600-800 bucks and get an extra 100 kms a tank ie 450-500

man go with nistune you can just send your ecu away to them in adilade and they will install the board for under $500 and then when you get it back it will run as it did standard

until you want to have it tuned it will cost bout $500 and they will tune it and make it like a brand new car man it will pump !!!!!! . the other options are just a bandaid fix kinda upgrade

and if not done properly will be more hassles than they are worth big time ! . cheers .

I would have thought less, that was including the tune right? You will get it done cheaper if you look around.

Who told you your economy will improve? Better to sell the turbo and buy a smaller car, it only gets worse from stock, especially once the power rises. Have you changed the O2 sensor yet?

Nistune all the way for S2. Complete tunability, remove speed limit etc etc. Anything else you will only want to upgrade later.

Fuel economy? What's that?

Agreed with wolverine and Bob. I run a sitc / safc II @ 1.0bar with a dual stage turbosmart but am still leaning towards buying a dual solinod blitz profec B. The options are, if you get serious you can opt for a hks fcon v pro / emanage ultimate / Vipec or even send to Impul to get a fixed tune with certain mods.

All big dollars and dyno time. I think your better off to learn it yourself and tune it on the road imo. I am learning how to sync ecu maps with Nistune Version 0.9.14.13 atm. Pity I cant use the software for my series 1. All fun stuff but.

Thanks guys, and yes scotty that was including dyno time, from what i have read on here and what my mechanic said part of my economy problem is that raising the stock boost without upgrading the stock ecu causes the engine to run super rich all the time, which means i get the dirty bumper and backfire at high rev gear changes aswell as lousy economy, so nisstune will allow me to run leaner and therefore save fuel, and yes i changed my O2 sensor when i first got it, I know its never going to be an economical car but id like to get to where other users have said they can get and get like 450 kms a tank atleast

Hi Chris,

Is the car Stock,

if so get Exhaust sorted that will be best bang of your $$$ ,

this will give you better fuel economy,

you gain some 20 + hp from this alone.

Yes. At least a JJ bellmouth, 3" X Force and 3' cat back. Work on the inlet pipe. There is a DIY on it. Also I now run a MBC at about 10 psi. Also have pod and front facing plenum with cross flow FMIC. Being Auto cant Nistune, but I'll think of something.

With all that economy, is still about the same, but the power is now feelable and stock turbo comes on quick.

And as they say if you want economy, get a pushbike. LOL

Incidently, luv listening to UpChUcKy when at the computer.

Ahh, so you have Charlies car. I can't remember what turbo is on there. I am pretty sure he had a bleed valve for boost control (at least I think I gave him the one from my R33) but I am not sure whether he fitted it before selling the car.

I will give him a call and ask him...if his phone numbers are current.

As everyone has already said, nistune is the way to go for S2. even if you get an emanage, and your paying someone else to install and tune, I doubt it will come in any cheaper than a nistune board installed and tuned.

There isn't much in the way of fuel savings if your just putting around, but there definitely once you start getting heavier on the right foot. 400-450 is definitely achievable, I'd say more if you do a bit if hi-way driving in your week.

Do a bit of research before getting an emanage blue, I had one sitting in the cupboard when I got my stagea and had intentions of installing it until a bit of research turned up a few R34 RB25 NEO owners getting there coilpacks fried because of the EMB. There was a fix to this by soldering in some diodes or resistors to the lines but I didn't want to stuff around with any of that, so i didn't go down that path.

Yes wolverine he definately put some sort of boost control in, cant say wether its a bleed valve or not I dont really know, it looks like a red cylinder with a dial on the top to adjust boost level. And the quote i got was from unigroup engineering, my mechanic recommended them as being the best from the quote the 1300 bucks included:

Supply of board, fitting and testing (We have popular exchange ECUs already fitted and ready to go.)

-Setup of CAS, TPS, IAC & VCT (where applicable)

-Vacuum leak check

-Maf service

-Allowance for labour for minor trouble shooting and small repairs

-Tuning to high standards that Unigroup is renowned for

-12 months warranty on the board and ecu and 12 months aftercare

After your opinions I think I will just go with the nisstune and save a bit more cash up cheers guys

Hi Chris,

Not sure what the turbo was.. I had my suspicions that when the turbo blew up the first time that my cousin just put a R33 turbo on it.. I really don't know..

One thing I do know is that it didn't go as well as it did before it popped... Hence the reason I put the boost controller on it..

My advice, get rid of the apexi pod filter and put the standard air box back in with the panel filter I gave you.

The car is sucking in hot air from the engine bay.. Plus that filter made it go worse, not better... You'll notice it uses even more fuel in summer!

If you can, get the turbo I gave you rebuilt and put it back in as well as a 3 inch dump pipe from the turbo to the cat and take out the boost controller..

Precision Turbo's around Bankstown quoted me about $1300 to do a hi-flow rebuild on it.. I just never got around to it..

When I first got the car, with the 1st turbo, factory air box and no boost controller, the car would average 450 to 500K's per tank.

And it went better as well...

The main point about that car I would like to point out is the turbo..

The one that's in it now isn't as good as the one that came out.

The best the car ever did was 520K's on the original Turbo.

You should be getting 400 to 450 out of it at the moment! If your not, its got to do with your right foot! Not the car!

Thanks Wolverine, I got your message last night.. I was tied up with the missus! Just dropped in to check the banter! All is well.. Still searching for XY parts! I will get it on the road one of these years!
