Hey all,

I know this is usually done as a dodgey kind of thing but I give you my word I am doing this for a true and honest reason. Possibly because I got jibbed too.

Well I bought a replacement Skyline today an early 1996 s2 mspec. But first thing I noticed was the cluster was different to my S2. Its ugly, it doesnt have the circle things around the indicator things.

Well Ive still got my old R33 in tact and still have the cluster with a reading of 119xxx. I want to put it in my car but the car I bought has 82000. Now, I could put it in and just swap it out later on, but for the

sake of fairness and just well, I like to be honest with my self here, I want to rewind the clock I took out of my series 2 and put it in my series one.

If someone can PM me how it can be done. It looks like an electronic signal is sent from the box controlling the counter inside the speedo. I dont want to break the thing and I dont want to fork out money for

one on eBay with 70000km on it. I know places will trade it in for theirs and they will just rewind it and sell it off, but like I said, this is a true, honest request.

If it can be done it would be greatly appreciated. If you need proof I will take photos of everything just to show I'm not f**king around here.

Cheers.

I've done it on my old laser, just to match up the numbers when I swapped a good cluster in to my broken down hunk of junk.

If you have a tiny flathead screw driver (the sort you would use for computer parts), it's possible to get between and kind of seperate the numbers from each other, then turn the numbers to what you want...... then remove the screwdriver and it should click back in place.

This also has potential to wreck the whole mechanism. I would never do it on the skyline cause the clusters are actually worth decent money lol. But the laser cluster cost me $20, so I thought I'd give it a go.

For anyone reading this, thinking I'm a criminal... let me tell you..... when I changed the ODO on the laser, I was actually winding it FORWARDS to match :)

not sure what exact part of the new speedo you like, but 1 option may be to simply change the speedo part of the cluster to put your current cars speedo and odometer into the cluster you like the look of more. this way you still have the legitimate kms

mad I think you're onto something. I just popped the face off the new cluster. Im gonna remove the old one from the car and see if I can pop the face off that one. The cluster in my car is just flat. The one ive got is like a new design and like all the icons have circles around them. it just looks crisper.

Fingers crossed they line up! Can anyone confirm if the lights and indicators are all in the exact same place?

    • Yes there is a front and back insertion point on each side, each point is tubed with supports into the car and tied to the cage/ floor mount point

    • it takes so long to get things done but ... they are nearly there and we hitting the track soon again  So - at Perth Festival of Speed the car unfortunately had a decent off, wasnt me driving, wasnt the person drivings fault. Long story short car got sent very fast towards the wall without the control on throttle from the driver input and a disaster was averted but there was damage that needed to be fixed - carbon busted and alot of bent bits The splitter got munched and had to go back to get fixed - took a bit to get it there, fixed and back but got a surprise package when a new double element higher DF splitter came back - nice surprise !  and first person to have one     At a car show I took the car too some punks stole one of my carbon indicator blanks and stomped on the other so had to get a new set of headlight / indicator combo from tops stage so got front fender vents as well to put in the order     While all this was happening the new MCA golds turned up and did some fiddling around with those   Put in the flappy paddle system and clutch lockout wiring/ system   We have also put shorter gearing in top top it out at 300 kmph in 6th gear  where previously I held 5th to 282 at SMP and 277 in Perth   Looking for better control and faster acceleration     I wasnt intending on doing pedal box I was managing with the brake master replacement system I had going on and adjusted std pedals but on applying the clutch switch to the old system we found the *insert technical word here * bar that goes from the pedal to the master was bent about 40 deg and about to snap = lucky find otherwise be a bad bad time - discussion was had about getting a custom bar built to withstand the load but in reality it was time      making any suspension, wheel or anything adjustments to date has been a nightmare - aero off, adjust, check and repeat - time consuming and hard - short of going full airjack system we fashioned some external manual car lifts this will make life a million times easier     All the bent framing, some intercooler pipes and other has been fixed and replaced and after 6 months I finally have the car back at home in my control so its get to work on it, set ride heights, wheel align and will start track testing again soon   So ultimately other than a few flashy bits nothing actually looks likes its been done but in reality alot has. Typical   We'll see how all this goes
