Was taking off my crank pulley before with the puller and the thread for the puller bolts on the crank pulley snapped off so wondering if anyone has any ideas of how I can remove it now since I cant screw in a puller??

Pitman puller, If you can get one in the right size. Gear puller will most likely require removal of cooler, radiator and condensor to fit. Or if you remove these you could have room to drill and tap 2 new holes.

take radiator /condensor out, weld rods onto the harmonic balancer and use a slide hammer

are you for real man..... you forgot to mention " than pick up your harmonic Balancer and throw it in the bin".............

I know youre sorted but we've had success with the big Snap-on lever bars...one guy each side with a lever going at it...need to be careful not to break the edges of the pulley off though...

But what do you lever against? I was thinking of doing that but I saw it touching the oil pump or sump edge so I didnt want to do it incase something else breaks.

the timing gear on my 30 block was on so tight i had to cut it off. was levering against the oil pump pretty hard tho (didnt care if i broke it) and it was fine, didnt do any damage to the pump or sump or anything.

did you read

"Cant because the actual whole chunk of where the thread is snapped off, so the whole thread is off. "

sounds like its f&*ked anyways .. so thats why i suggested said method

Thats how i did mine, threads were already screwed and we couldnt find a claw puller big enough to go over all the pulleys and the smaller one just broke of bits of the smaller dividers between pullys, between the lever bars and buying other tools and just general stuffing about trying different ways it took us 4hrs to get the prick off, once the job was finished and the balancer replaced i took out my frustration on the old balancer with a sledge hammer, was very satidfying.

so you put the claws of your puller on the edge of the pulley thats broken in the pic? thats like the weakest part of the pulley...... :S

edit: nevermind i see where you went wrong after a closer look.. badluck! lol

my pulley remover (3 claw type) fits in if i undo the condensor from the top mounts and shift the bottom of it closer to the intercooler so its no longer sitting on the rad support (removing the bonnet catch and a/c fan ofcourse)

most annoying part of the job i rekon.. how do you guys take the pulley off without touching the condensor ?? i might try and find a shorter pulley remover lol

or you could make a puller like I had to. 65MM x 8MM mild steel flat bar with a M12 nut welded to it. works a treat. (as long you remember to loosen the balancer bolt prior or you bend it like I did lol) and another thing I found after wrecking 3 front main seals. A 32mm to 1 1/4" pvc fitting is the perfect size for fitting cam or front main seals.

As the inside bore of the threaded section is only slightly bigger then the OD of the crank you can use the crank bolt to push the seal on perfectly square. Lastly another little trick was to use a strip of laminating plastic to put around the crank slide the seal on over it then remove the plastic. this stops the seal folding over it self (I did this 3 times)

good ideas mate. :) and good removal tool too. :) most commercial ones are shit and the little claws just break of bits of the pulley sides (as above pics show). yours looks great. :)

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
