All i have to say is.. most of the 89 GTR's are burnt out motor wize.. the driveline on GTR's are strong since i have experienced driving a 89 GTR back in japan 2 Years ago which was excellent...

your best bet is finding a R32 GTR 89 with a R33/34 engine..

prestigemotorsport has a nice GTR ...

here is one damn NICE R32 1989... this is not just engine work.. the body is also as NEW!... i 100% recomend someone buying this car and it could easly do low 11's with some boost.

Alex

Exhibit A of "get what u pay for" 10k more than the rest. R34 donk and turbos - nice.

A great example.....and definitely worth the money without having looked closer at the car, but for 10K you can build a stronger than N1 engine and turbo upgrade with some careful thought and not paying for labour. But with that setup how hard has the rest been flogged? There is something inherently wrong with advertising a price pre-auction too.

I believe the prices on prestige are estimations of the overall cost... not the price the car will go for at auction. Obviously they know the range the car will go for and pick a conservative value in that range and add on compliance, shipping, etc etc...

Just thought i'd clear that up for you.

Thanks mate, but I did have 4 years in the import industry with my own company, while I was studying engineering at uni (mature age). Gave it the flick when I saw the LVIS breaking down and tax wrote off the stock which I kept for daily drivers.

Just not ethical to advertise a price until somebody shoots the fat lady IMO

I sent an email to Prestigue Motorsport asking about the quality of these cars etc and he subscribed me to a free 7 day trial to recieve emails of all the GTR's going for auction in Japan. I was subscribed to a 300ZX list a few months ago and lemme tell you that the emails/cars that 'everyone' recieves daily from Prestigue don't even come close to what is actually 'available'.

I'll be getting around 15-20 emails a day, today they are all 1990-1994 GTR's. Of the 21 cars/emails I got today i'd happily take about 3 of them (as in their are about 3 that really standout in the pics where as the others just look average).

The bidding on most of them 'starts' at about au$3,000. I think for about au$27,000-32,000 (landed and on road) a -REALLY- nice R32 GTR could be found.

Well I guess I forgot about this thread!

I was supposed to give some insight to how much it costs to restore an 89 GTR and I can tell you now it isn't cheap.

So far restoration/maintenace has cost in excess of $4K.This includes Koni's dampers, springs, tyres, clutch(thrust bearing) and it is now developing squeaks at low speed bumps ie: driveways.

HOWEVER, I would gladly go through it all again because a GTR is a GTR and I'm VERY happy with mine(apart from my recent fight with a curb).

I guess my bootom line is: Get the best one you can afford and set aside a fair chunk to restore it because it WILL need some things taken care of. I budgeted 4.5K for restoration and its getting close now.

Ecenshu, nice to see you finally have your 89 GTR on the road. Hope you enjoy it. so what is your finally cost including all the restoration + the cost of your vehicle? how's the condition of the engine?

Total cost is approaching $26K altogether, engine is fine and supposedly stock as a rock with even compression and no blowby/oil found where it's not supposed to be.

Also had to change spark plugs because it was running 2 iridiums and 4 platinums?! It had a slight miss when it just starts boosting. I'm running all copper now and it has stopped the missing.

One thing that is kinda bothering me is the oil pressure is on the high side after my recent oil change(Motul 5-30 Turbolight I think).

I got mine with T78 + approx. $10,000 worth of other mods and everything seems sweet so far (only had it two weeks now) All in all it has cost me about $22500 ($15000 for the car) Have not got it on the dyno yet but I bet I got about 300rwkw for my 15K :P

i got to tell you that i live here in japan near nagasaki and all of the GTR's that i see around here are nice as hell.. not too many bad ones,,, if you need one then let me know and i can look around for you.. It common knowledge that buying from the auctions here is not that great of an idea! Sure you can see the car and start it up if it starts but you do not know where the car is comming from. I think that it is better to buy from a car Shop that GTR is their thing. that is the way to go.. Got a GTR32 body here for about $600.00 USD Spot reinforced. It has Acrylic Windows around the whole car but the engine needs some TLC.. I have been toying around with making it the Car Club Drag Car but have not decided on that... If you all need help then let me know and i will do my best to help you out... My Neighbor has a R32GTR for sale 12000.00 USD and it is loaded with goodies.. if you need something like that then pm me and i will help you out.. don't get me wrong i am not trying to sell cars on the net.. just trying to help you all save big $$$

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
