Rx7 Fd Vs S15 As A Daily

Hey guys,

My friend and i have been looking at a auto car for her and its down to these 2 cars. The s15 seems abit overpriced but the condition of the car is really great inside and out and we get a 5 year unlimited km warranty on engine and drive train issues. Rx7 is from fab cars and the price is really good but i've talked to a few work shops who have warned about the engines.

what are your opinions on this. shes not really looking to upgrade the engine and try and get max power out. it will be a daily and she doesn't wanna be having to fork out ridiculous amounts of money on a car. she has her heart set on these so no skylines lol

Hehe.. In terms of maintenance costs etc I would imagine the s15 would be the cheaper option, keep in mind an rx7 is a rotary engine and the 'rule' I've heard is that due to them spinning at higher revs than a conventional engine they are more likely to require more attention more frequently.

In terms of look, well I think rx7 FD's are pretty damn hot - a set of rims and an exhaust and you got yourself a beast. S15's are more or less the same in my opinion, set of rims, exhaust and lowered and they are a nice neat looking sports car.

Due to owning a Skyline, and this being posted on SAU forums Nissan may be favoured a little what's the price difference between the two cars? I'd be basing it more so on the age of each car, the condition, the price, the km's etc and try forecast costs a year forward (even roughly)

ie: If one car is at 99,000km and the other is at 70,000km what is the 100,000km service cost going to be like. Call a few rotary specialists workshops and try and find info on RX7's like general service costs, how difficult/expensive to find and replace parts and maybe even go as far as comparing insurance costs between the two.

Either way mate all the best and hopefully your friend ends up with the best car of the two =)

S15 is better, based purely on daliy driving, cheaper maintenance and parts.

But RX7 are better looking and unique car. If she has no problems with the cost factors Steve mentioned above, she could get the RX7.

There are quite a few good S15s comming up now for under 20k easy (im looking for one for my mrs atm). The Rx7 would prob be the worst daily driver out of any import due to the maintenance involved. Another car in fer price bracket as mentioned is the skyline or en evo 7 gta (if it has to be an auto). But value for money i dont think you can beat the S15 and its a good chicks car.

rx7 is 1k cheaper than the s15 but the s15 has low kms and the overall condition of the car matches it.

also her tastes arent what we like lol..... big shiny wheels pinch.gif really cant talk her out of this

not really sure who are rotary specialists are here she likes the rx7 but we are both worried about the engine coz it has 80000+ on it

she cant drive manual or she would be all over that 350

there are cheaper s15s but they are silver and dont look good. this ones black and looks pretty sexy

if anyone knows someone selling a yellow s15 can you tell me please

1 of my friend tried to buy that car, but he said it was sold already.

Sunny, she wouldn't like auto V35 coupe? They are good for daily as well. :) By the way, she is not Burmese, is she?

lol.. make her LEARN to drive a manual it's not hard =)

another thing i wanted to add - dealer warranty doesn't *actually* mean jack sh1t. it's compulsory from the gubbermint. and is good for pretty much nothing.

unfortunately if you want a cheap S15 you have to look interstate!

Yup. I just checked with my friend who went and had a look at that car (I am pretty sure it's the same car by the information on it), it got sold 2-3 weeks ago. I guess people don't update their car stats. :P

Rx7 FTW :P hehe but to be honest with you, my rotary has had it's up and downs, you never know when the engine is about to go then a rebuild will set you back heaps!, S15 parts are easy to find, my friend John has one and he can snap up parts easily but with the Rx7 sometimes its a mission. Would need regular servicing, can't miss one if your feeling lazy or out of coin because the seals need to be changed and all the other jiffy.

Overall:

Rx7 FD (has to be series 8): Looks is nice and slick, low and feels like a go kart, engine = ticking time bomb.

S15: Exterior is smooth with a nice aggressive front end, parts are easy to find, 4 seater.

yea shes burmese and she doesnt really like the v35s.

she can drive manual, shes driven mine afew times but not on main roads.

I am Burmese too. I asked because you said your mum or dad is Burmese in 1 of the thread, plus I bought my V35 from Fabcar and they said they know a few Burmese people that bought the car from them (I don't know that include you).

Anyhow, great to know another Burmese getting an import (I have a Burmese friend who drives an S15 ). :thumbsup: Good luck.

      Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!       Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.

      When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything. It comes with a plug... but you can plug the OEM plug directly into this thing. https://justjap.com/products/deatschwerks-dw300-fuel-pump-nissan-s13-silvia-r32-r33-r34-skyline-c34-stagea?currency=AUD Downside: Won't actually flow that much on boost if you want to push it on E85, but it's comparable to the 040/255 etc. Little more actually.
