One of the announcers is a great mate of mine and is accomplished, but I feel they lacked a little direction upon exactly what was required of them.

I also think it's hard for them to know how it sounds from inside the booth?

Last year people whined that they didn't know the times, this year it's that the times were too loud.

I think the appalling pa system is mostly to blame, because in some spots it was far too loud, and in others ya couldn't hear shit.

I think a few big screens showing sectors, top speeds, and lap times would be money well spent. Then the announcers could chill a little.

This is the car I was down there working on. The one going around the outside

Yes, definitely post more pics and details on the VE engine!

Baron - 200hp+ for R34, is that with the Borg Warner or another brand?

Congrats to all but particularly John Unique Zed, happy for ya mate

Something im not sure i quite understand... maybe my lack of technical knowledge but - it seems some of the teams when crazy with their aero setups and others were a little more refined.... is that just me or is the the benefit of years and years of r&d and what seems like a limitless budget?

was it your mate loosing his shit when announcing times? he was "announcing" way too loud.. if it was getting recorded it would look like this

otherwise i was quiet happy with them this year. they did yack on a little too much but not nearly as much as last year.

a screen and better top speed sign on the straight would be bonzai!!

Agree

Very draining weekend. Worked all day Thurs, hopped on a midnight flight, no sleep on the plane, straight to eastern creek and took photos all day. The the same the next day. Had a decent time though.

Here is a fraction of the 6000 photos im yet to process.

Thought id start off with an arse to get your attention :)

Below is the sequence that led to the above photo. Useless marshals had no idea how to use the flags. Guy was travelling about 150km/hr i reckon when they collided.

The pa system is a big part of the problem. for sure it is junk.

most of the people attending the event are genuine enthusiasts unlike f1 or even v8 supercars where it can be seen to be fashionable to be there regardless of wether you are a fan or not.

90% of the attendees were there for time attack but 90% of the yak over the pa was about drifting, mad mike this and mad mike that blah blah etc etc. mad mike is just another kiddyskidder with a pos rotor who's major contribution was idling around the pits annoying the shit out of everyone by constantly blipping the throttle much to the delight of the dozen 16 year old flat cappin fan boys that followed it around like a bitch on heat.

Screaming out the lap time at the top of their voice as the cars crossed the line on full throttle only contributed to the dodgey pa system in creating a total skullf**k of obnoxious noise.

It was impossible to hear a lap time and when there were quiet times instead of giving us a run down on the lap times they started screaming about mad mike and friends all over again. We are not kids looking to be pumped up with a constant barrage of screaming drivel, we are enthusuasts genuinely interested in the main show. The quiet times could best be served by giving us detailed info on lap times etc so we could actually hear who did what to who.

(end of rant)

new sig time :D

Was quite annoying having Mad Mike's 26B going up and down pit lane 10 times a day. Once was enough and I’m a rotary fan, then they had PAC man drive his drag car up and down on Saturday sounded even worse.

There was 5 announcers I think? So I'm uncertain who the main culprit of the screaming was but quite sure it wasn't my guy. He was however the non-kiwi dude announcing the drift, but I always thought drift crowds responded better to US style hype? lol

I'm not trying to defend anyone, get that straight, but I'm keen for them to sort the issues for next year. The assault of noise was probably the most draining part of the entire weekend. Like I said earlier, it was either too quiet to hear, or FAR TOO LOUD. There is enough noise from cars on track, so to my mind there is no need for guys like MM to be asked to rev the shit out of there car every half hour to "pump up the crowd". It's Time Attack, not Auto Salon.

Onto good things, the highlight for me again this year once again was the crowd. The vast majority of the demographic was of high quality people, far removed from your typical V8SC meet. People were well behaved and respectful, to a point where we didn't feel the need to rope the pit area off. well done I say :) I hope it stays like that.

100% agree on all counts Ben. The average super lap attendee was a dedicated enthuisast there to see some of the best time atack cars and drivers in the world.

bad behaviour was practically non existent and if they can clean up the pa deal it will serve to make a fabulous event even better.

You are spot on about the pa noise being the most tiring part of the day. It got to the point where i started to cringe in readiness for the audio onslaught when the cars crossed the line.

I had to cringe when I got a wiff of your rollies. :P

Seriously though, how good is it, WTAC would have to be the only event where you can lung darts in the hot side of pit row?

LOL. I'll be more considerate next time. P'raps thats why you ignored me when I was trying to be heard above the pa while you were standing in the grandstand when russ came out for his last go round in the 32. >_<

haha, I'm only having a crack at you mate, I'm two weeks off them, cold the sphincter of the universe, so even seeing one is hard work for me :)

Plus, Baron put me up to it, he's still smarting over your comments on page prior :P

and I didn't hear you mate, truth. Sorry!
