i found some results with that turbo and they werent to flash..

As i said ultimate power would be nice but for the price and extra stuffing around im happy to trade power for response if I can..I am not looking at the td06 JUST because it is smaller but because it is more suitable for the application all round...

Thats a completely different can of worms.

Im going to go there again and say, maybe you should send your turbo to Hypergear. You already have the right bearing cartridge, turbine and shaft. He can redo the cold side for you to a proper 3071 spec and make you a skyline specific rear housing that will actually work.

Hey I bet you can do it cheaper than buying a kando! And you wont need to consider changing anything that isnt already there. Ask him to make the new front cover the same dimensions as your current one! Just send PM dude.

yeah i have spoken to him, in person he has seen my turbo and he told me to sell it and buy another one :laugh:

by the time I sell this it will almost cover the costs so it will be cheaper to go Kando ;)

doesnt work that way that turbo has proven to not so successful. As i said its too much power on a stock mani..

Of course i would like t67 power but itstoo many extra coat and i would like my engine to last so 260ish would be fine..now seeing as im going smaller may as well trade some power for response. So while it may not have the ultimate top end of the t67 it should be better everywhere else..

So they are no good with a 3inch housing versus 4 inch?

but anyway Im not saying the 3 inch cover is no good It may be fine my main point as stated by Trent was the manifold being too restrictive for the turbo so I dont see the point in putting a turbo on that the manifold cant flow, may as well go a size down if wishing to retain standard manifold..

Do you think its a better choice than the sl2-20g?

Are you gonna run E85? if not then going off my bp98 results you should be right on the manifold limits...

Naa i think the SL2 will be great on the street!

The only time i'd like more response from my setup is at really really low speed corners in 2nd gear IE Intersections or roundabouts, with the stock setup you can get the thing sideways with a flick and some power the T67 is still spooling so you can either clutch or wait till your through the corner for the boost to build, then you just fry the tires in a straight line haha

Its perfectly matched everywhere else though eats the twistiest hills for breakfast!!! Can't wait to get it to the track!

Arthur T3..damn you and your external gate video's..lol, i keep going back and forward between the T67 25G and the hypergear ATR43 SS2.

I already have a few turbosmart gates laying around. i want 290-320rwkw thorugh a auto,(probally lose 20rwkw with standard torque converter over manual) so the kando is probally a better choice for peak power,

but the hypergear can be fitted up in a day easily, and its going in the wifes stagea so i am not sure how much downtime i will have..lol

But its tempting to jam a 3 inch cover T67 on a standard mani with a gate hanging of the exhuast housing

I also want to be able to tow my R31 with it..lol

A T67 is another name for a TD06SL2 (they both refer to the same rear end), just to confuse you some more...

Think of a TD06SL2-20G as similar to a GT3071R and a T67-25G as a GT3076R!!!

Unless you are desperate for every tiny rpm of response I would suggest a T67-25G

We are yet to test the SL2 but it definitely looks promising. It wont be no 10 second turbo, like the T67, but it will make for a formidable street car.

The Idea behind the SL2 is to have a SUB 300kw car with AS MUCH midrange power with the widest band as possible.

First decide what you want, then pick the parts to do it.

cheers guys , i know what i want to do with the car :ph34r: (r34) , i'm looking for the best street track setup for the least $$ :whistling: , i'm not looking for peak power , more good/strong midrange , watching simonR32's vids though it looks like the t67 is pretty good for the size, the next killer is i'm going to be running it on 98ron fuel (daily driver) so it will be sub 300rwk either way . i do have another project i was planning on putting a t67 on , so i could just try it on the 25 first (yes i'm talking myself into it lol)

Wow, 27 pages and 6 days later, I finally finished reading this entire thread. A lot of information to take in, and the different wheel sizes, etc, and different turbo names just add to the confusion! But, I think I've made a relatively informed decision as to my plan of attack, basing a few things off other members rides.

Looking at the T67, I cant really fail it at all on any large notes. Reliability and response are my only two ..... drawbacks. However, putting these into account in a Cost vs. Outcome ratio, its hard to fault the turbo. The response side of things I think can be overcome, or atleast assisted greatly with the smart use of certain parts. Herein lies my next question :)

Firstly, let me state that I'm 110% buying the T67 (I was actually looking at going a GT3582R, or a GT3788R, but the cost has held me back) . Now, I've read a little on Twin Scroll manifolds, and am seriously contemplating including one in my setup. Should the [claimed] increase in spool time (Between 300 - 500rpm) from the Twin Scroll manifold, not bring the T67 on par with me more expensive (and, presumably, 'better' turbos) ?

I currently have a GTRS, and the response is fantastic! However, the little fella's power output is somewhat.. 'old' now :) I'm looking for upwards of 300rwkw (340 - 360 would be nice ;) ..) . So, the T67 looks an awesome choice. If boost can be achieved by 3500rpm - 4000rpm, I'll be over the moon for the power it can push. At the moment, I'm seeing 20psi through the GTRS at around 2800 - 3000rpm, which is pretty amazing. So I'm willing to lose a few hundred rpm response for another [almost] 100rwkw.

2 more weeks and its shopping spree time! Lol :)

Only issue with twin scroll is the manifold needs two gates, or clever plumbing. I would certainly do it though.

I would love to have the E85 advantage, but as far as my knowledge goes, it is not readily available here in Sydney. As for cams, after speaking with some very respected tuners and builders, they said it wouldnt really make that much of a difference considering the current output of the motor, and the fact that the little GTRS doesnt really flow enough to make it worthwhile.

However, a little of my own 'reading-up' has led me to believe that a set of Exhaust Cam Gears would be the better option..

Sounds like you have done your research but i think the biggest result i have seen on 98 was 320-330kw.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.  
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
