boost isnt a set variable mate. depends on your individual setup, your tune, your motor, etc.

probably will be about the 20psi mark like jez just indicated, give or take a few psi.

The psi is more a measure of the restriction in the parts you have chosen, the turbo can flow that in an optimum setup.

if that was aimed at me, its originally an IT, with welded gate open. Then a External welded onto the stock manifold.

TD06H-20G I'm told by previous owner

The internal gate rear housings are restrictive compared to the external ones. Slapping an external on the manifold and welding the puck shut won't have the same gains as a full external housing upgrade but you will still see improvement.

Just fitted up a TD06SL25G to an s14 sr20, internal gate running on a old ebay spec spaghetti manifold.

Motor has forged bottom end,Bc cams, rocker stoppers,nistune, Z32 afm, sard 550cc injectors and sard rising rate fuel pressure reg.

Bolted up fairly nicely really, reused the same bellmouth dump, had to make a new intake anyway for the Z32, and all the lines fit really well.

Will be interesting to get on the Willall racing dyno on monday for a tune and see what numbers it can spit out.

That T2 5 bolt housing isnt the bad one, Ive used one of them in a TD05H 18G and so have a couple of members on NS with great results... the TD06 version is simply ported to suit, so I wonder if there will be any issues as compared to the external gate housings.

the problem IW housings are those shoddy T3 3 bolt outlet things.

LOL, mine isnt a Kando :) But yeh, its not really different to the results others have achieved with E85 and 20G so doesn't really add to the discussion.

With regards to Kane_R32, 19psi will bag you between 250-270rwkws depending on dyno and the mods you run. I have run a 10cm and an 8cm. There is no comparison and you HAVE to run an 8cm rear on the RB20! Go to a tuner that knows Nissans as years ago a Vic tuner gave me back a car with 220rwwks after installing a Power Fc which was less then I was making with the re-chipped Jap ECU. Another tuner gave me a very safe 235rwkws at 16 or so psi which last a good two years and then we tuned it for a bit more at 18-19psi and 260-275rwkws depending if it was on 98 or 100.

I have run my 20G since 2003 and have not made under 250rwkws since 2005. I have 60,000kms on the setup and plenty of track days and tarmac rally evens under its belt....so the RB20 if in good health and tuned well will last forever. As per ARTZ' comment above I am currently makign 306rwkws out of my 20G with E85 on a completely std RB20 (though these days I run a Plazmaman plenum) Tuners don't want to blow up peoples cars and if like many they think an RB20 is a POS that cant safely make power then you will never get a good result and you need someone with experience with RBs and hopefully some decent power RB20s.

So sounds like you need a Kando 8cm T3 housing to replace your current one and a tuner who can get the most out of your setup

Again, he sells cheap a55 turbos from his b'roo out of a suplier in god knows where. He thankfully buys out of a good enough factory somewhere in middle nowhere that generally quality isnt an issue.

If you want a TD06 based turbo with good customer support then buy locally off ATP or GT Pumps etc.You pay the extra few bob over what the cost is out of the factory for their balancing, assmebly and service.

LOL, I am still trying to find someone that can assemble my turbo with a nice shiny bullet nut...hopefully the 73HTA works well enough on the RB20 to convince me to try the 76HTA on the RB24 in which case will DEMAND I get my bullet nut :)

actually they are kamak units, which is pretty steady manufacturer.

you can even buy kamak branded ones on ebay, admittedly for a lot more lol

Got the tune sorted today, nearly!

had a few setup issues, Fuel pressure reg was set way too high and the car wouldn't rev past 3500, once that was sorted, we ran into more fueling dramas, seems the bosch fuel pump couldn't keep up over 6000rpm, walbro 400lph pump has already been ordered.

Ended up getting most of the tune sorted tho, made 250rwkw @ 6000rpm on only 17psi

pretty pleased with the result really. get the new pump sorted, get the low boost tune sorted and that connect up the eboost and see if we can squeeze some more out of it

Yep 25g gotta get the final runs overlaid with rpm and boost so it gives a better indication when it comes on.

The owner of the car is resetting the eboost2 now so we can get some psi up it and see how it goes. I just get the fun task of fitting parts and making exhausts for it.

At the moment it runs a twin 2.25" system from the dump pipe back, no cat, no mufflers, track only, and it is ridiculously loud but it sounds wild!

thats pretty cool! mine is ridiculously loud too, i need to change it asap lol

any reason why he went 25G instead of 20G? response would have been a lot nicer with the 20G and would still net around the 260 area

    • My first car was a HG. I'm very familiar with them. A mild cam upgrade is a good idea. The 186 is a very flexible engine - meaning it has good torque from down low. You can give up a little torque down low for quite a lot more excitement in the mid range, and a bit more up top - but they are not exactly a rev monster. You need to upgrade valve springs at the minimum. For a bigger cam, you'd want to make sure it wasn't still running the original fibre cam gear. That would be unlikely, given that most of them shat themselves in the 70s and 80s, but still within the realms of possibility. Metal cam gear required. Carbies are a huge issue. The classic upgrade was always a Holley 350, which works, but is usually pretty bad for fuel consumption. The 186S had a 2 barrel Stromberg on it that was very similar to the one on the 253, and is a reasonable thing if you can find one, and find someone to help you get it set up (which is the same issue with setting up a 350 to work nice). The more classic upgrade was twin sidedraught CD type carbs, or triples of same, or triple Webers. The XU-1 triple Webers being the best example. You can still buy all this stuff new, I think, but it's a lot of coin to drop. And then the people able to set them up are getting fewer and further in between. There's still some, but it used to be everyone's** dad and uncle could do it. **Not everyone's! But a lot. All in all, I wouldn't get too carried away with the engine. Anything you do to it without a full rebuild for power and revs will only make it slightly faster. I am all in favour of a complete teardown rebuild, with nice rods and pistons, 10 or 10.5:1 compression, and a clean port job with at least a big enough cam to run 98 with that compression, if not bigger. And if I did that to a dirty old red motor, I'd want to inject it too, which I'd struggle to fight against the devil on my shoulder that would argue for ITBs and trumpets. But the bills would start to mount up, and it will still never make stupid power. OK, a few people still know how to build absolutely mental red motors, courtesy of the work that went into HQ racing and modern knowledge being applied. But even a 300HP red motor is no match for an RB20 with a TD06. So you have to decide what it's worth to you. I'd just put a set of 6>2>1 extractors, a 2.5" exhaust and an electronic ignition conversion/dizzy on it and just run the old girl like the fairly slow old girl that she really is.
