All went well yesterday, no power figures as yet, as Allstar just did a run-in tune (7psi & 4k rev limit).

Need to do 1000k run in now. Only problem is, the car isn't registered! Has anyone got any advice as to how to go about running in an engine on an unregistered car? (without doing it on a dyno). Was thinking to just get a 48 hour movement permit, but not sure how strict they are with those...

Anyone done this before?

Also, on the topic of Kando/Kamak products. A while ago I was in search of a decent 50mm blow off valve, but couldn't really afford the price tag on a Tial or Turbosmart BOV. I searched for ages, and ended up coming to the conclusion that I could either a) just suck it up and buy an expensive item, and know that it will be quality, or b) skimp out and risk buying one of the cr@ppy brands on ebay, and hope that it does the job properly.

But then I happened to stumble across this one on ebay (which didn't turn up in any of my previous searches for some reason). I discovered that kando sells a 50mm Kamak BOV, and it is quite in-expensive;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/KAMAK-Turbo-Blow-Off-Valve-BOV-50mm-w-3-typs-Spring-/280913545263?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4167c0882f

I currently have this fitted, and as of yesterday, I can say I'm quite impressed with the quality of it so far. Won't be able to fully vouch for it's quality until the car is tuned for higher power, but perhaps this is another kando product that can perform and at only a fraction of the price.

The only problem so far, is that I got a tiny bit of 'flutter' sometimes, when coming off light boost, but i'm thinking I may just need to put a weaker spring in there. Will update once I've seen how it performs under full boost conditions.

Also, when I purchased this a few months ago, it was priced at $150 inc. delivery, but it looks as though they have bumped the price to $150 + $25 delivery since.

funny this has come up now, ill be assembling in the next few weeks. not liking this run in business, i want to drop it off for the tune and bring it home as is. dont wanna pay and pay and pay again.

ill probably bed the rings, drop the oil and just thrash it happily ever after.

Do people even do 1,000km run ins these days? Most people just run them up on the dyno, Dump oil and coolant and filters and top up with new fluids and go for gold.

When I had my RB26 built its all we did.

I'm still impatiently waiting for mine to arrive .

lol my car runs dude, ill go start it now just for good measure :P wouldnt want the world to end.

im building a spare motor for it and going for a nice 270kw setup. only started about a month ago and im almost ready to start assembling the fundamentals.

can the world hold out a little longer u rekon? lol

Getting my T67-25G with Cams,44mm gate , nz manifold, Tunned this Thursday at Allstars on 98 octane as well. will post results.

just need to sort out few small issues before dyno.

- Modify (weld) my intake pipe for GFB blow of valve - i have started the car without blow off and went for lap around the block..

i also heard if you dont run blow of vale that it can damage you turbo is that right ? backpresure ? , Mafia on the forums didnt run any blow off valve..

- replace my complaence cat with a 100 cell cat ...

and it should be all ready to GO , i just hope i dont get any issues on the dyno...

I been thinking of going T67 on NZ manifold and 44mm gate on my 34 too but realized I have to re-route my cross over intake pipe, BOV and all the associated hoses and sensors, what a headfk job..The typical U layout cooler pipes will foul any highmount turbos.. Man would have loved a T67 but too much pain, unless theres better ways..will stick with the TD06 for now

Better to run a BOV but not essential...

Just run a cat pipe and put standard cat back in if you need to go over the pits.

Man up and DO IT Ron :P

48 hour permit... Just have to call the DPI and give them locations you are driving around to. Just find mechanics/car workshops around the metro area, get them listed on the permit and drive between them :)

Yeah, that's what we were thinking.

I wonder how strict they are with the permits though. Like, for example, If I were to list an address/workshop in Dunsborough on the permit. I may just call the DPI and ask if they would allow for a long distance drive, for the purpose of running in a rebuilt engine.

I've heard mixed advice/opinions on this, but in the end I've just decided to play it safe, and do the run-in. Probably won't do the full 1000km though.

Just do places in Perth metro area for "repairs"... Not to run in the engine

Do a T67 with a 3" front cover and low mount it.

If you check Roy's for sale thread he has a TD06H-25G that uses a 3" front cover that is normally native to the 20G we get from Kando. Thats a GENUINE TRUST item...........

If trust used the 3" cover on a 25G wheel, it cant honestly be that much worse. Maybe need a psi or 2 extra to reach the same targets. Best of both worlds mate.

I guess roughly the same response if not a TINY bit better and an easy 300kw low mounted (stock mani) on 98.

    • Welcome back to the scene! Godzilla Motorsports were well regarded back in the day.  My GT-R had work done there prior to my ownership.   SRS (Street Race Solutions) in Toowoomba worth a look.  They've built some pretty wild Skylines. Their YouTube channel is comedic to watch!  I'm sure they're all on the glass BBQ but they get shit done! 🤣
    • Hard to say what the extra connector is, it looks a bit like a coax type connector, so possibly a separate radio/GPS antenna, or even another camera input?  The V37 series (including the Q50), did go through a model refresh in 2020, since Australia didn't get any Q50s newer than 2019, we didn't get any of the refreshed models, so there could also be other unexpected problems to overcome to swap an older Q50 head unit into a new model V37. There probably aren't too many people around that have made these sorts of changes to a Q50/V37, so you might end up being the first if you do decide to go ahead. ACP is Apple Car Play and AA is Android Auto, they are roughly the same thing for the 2 major phone operating systems (Apple's iOS and Android), it allows you to connect your phone and access a number of your phone applications on your car system.  With Nav apps included, so you could use google maps/Waze or whatever your favourite navigation app is, instead of using the built in navi system.  I think this would be a better solution if it is only Navigation that you are looking as swapping the head unit for. GPS signals are the same around the globe as the GPS satellites continuously circle the globe, but it is the head unit that doesn't allow you to load Australian maps, or at least no-one had made an Australian map that will load up on the JDM head unit. Regarding the TV standards, I assume you are referring to the AV inputs?  I haven't ever tried to use them, Japan used a slightly modified version of the US NTSC system, and Australia uses PAL for composite video, that said, I wouldn't be surprised if a video input could work with either system.  That is mostly irrelevant here though, unless you plan to use those inputs for something?
    • If you've got bucket loads of $. Go single. If not, just upgrade the twins, Garrett -9's or whatever the current equivalent is for a healthy 350awkw and leave it at that. Will probably still cost you 10k to do in this day and age.
