Been reading up on these turbos lately and looking at a TD06 20G with the 10cm rear EG for my 33 RB25 with the following mods.

The normal cooler and exhaust etc

Tomei pon cams with gears

550cc injectors

Power fc

Freddy manifold

Lightened flywheel with a 6 puck button clutch that im going to sell and buy a more capable one

Surge tank, oil cooling, bigger radiator etc all done.

But what I really want to know is has anyone low mounted one of these, more so on a GTSR manifold? As I have read that some of the compressor housings are pretty large is this the case with the TD06 item?

What are peoples thoughts on welding the gate on the exhaust housing as I don't want to ruin the manifold?

Also to be annoying the normal question of coming on boost, full boost and rough power out put?

Sorry if it seems like a noobs post but I would like to know before I go out and buy one if its capable with my manifold on 25 in my hr31 coupe?

Thanks

United 100 (still pump fuel), 550 Nismos, Nistune, Walbro, Cooler, Exhaust...Thats its basically

Wow, stout - got to be happy with that! Nice work, and its nice to know it's capable of that kind of performance :)

ARTZ lowmounted that turbo on a stock manifold, and one other member also did before having to sell the car (IIRC). Both members results were within reasonable difference. 14-16psi 260rwkw on 98, 300kw on E85, good response all round.

I can understand the thread is 270 pages wrong but this has been talked about so many times....

Furthermore the Hypergear SS2 does not give much away in response and has significantly higher power limits. Please read both threads.

Is it comparably priced?

I believe it to be better value.

A current model SS2 type B with IWG should cost the 1200 mark IIRC.

For most people who already sport a 3" dump that saves them on the cost of an EWG, plumbing it up and fabricating a dump. Say 700 kando, 400 gate, 300 to cast weld gate to manifold, 400 for dump and screamer... I think those prices are conservative and rounded down in most cases.

Not trying to product push, am just a mad stalker of both threads and hold an opinion on the matter.

Why does it need to be an external gate one? To me this seems like something which could be a bit of fun...

Or even this if there is any doubts about the stock compressor housing flow:

From our testing so far, the Kando anti-surge/lag thing is bollux - we are very impressed with the internally gated bolt on anti-surge Kando so far. Boost holds 19psi perfect with electronic boost control, or 10psi without creep on wastegate boost which leaves heaps of room for us to sort out boost-per gear with a wide range. Very much looking forward to seeing how it behaves on the dyno.

I have read that all the kando internal gate ones aren't very good with boost control. I haven't seen any decent results with the internal ones.

Clearly I was lying then, I'll stop feeding this thread with BS and leave you guys to turn it into a Hypergear thread, as well as the FP thread, and I think the Precision thread is also lacking in Hypergear propaganda too :P

OH YEAH! I forgot about the re-production 2iu housings.. I hadn't eve thought to look for that on eBay.

I may speak to a friend about trying one of these, though I would prefer an L2 18G in the stock housings. Roy has explored the 20G 8cm realms but I am not confident its everyones cup of tea (on an RB25).

I'm keen to see your anti-surge final results dude, am always happy to take on new data and concepts. At the moment the general consensus was that it was laggier, but that could be a different story on the smaller compressor housings or wheels (remembering yours is the 3" .60 housing with a 20G wheel and most feedback was based on the 4" .70 with 25G wheel).

The one dude who did 'back to back' a 20G 3" anti-surge was not convinced the non surge cover was actually the fix. Hopefully your friends one can at least settle the debate on the 3" cover.

8cm rear is too small for my liking. I have read that all the kando internal gate ones aren't very good with boost control. I haven't seen any decent results with the internal ones.

The MHI style housings are total dogs balls, but those 2iu style ones are probably fine. Hypergear is importing a similar housing which I'm sure comes from the same foundry.

So it should work fine, depending on what size flapper Kando are installing and the balance of flow from the wheels. If you have a read of the Hypergear threads (will take you a year) it took him a while to get the balance of wheels and WG flapper right. The current standard highflow is a good thing.

Dont have a dyno sheet on me atm as im away at work, but will upload when i can.

Car made 310rwkw's and 620nm of torque @ 18psi on BP98, full boost hits at 4000rpm. Since it was finished its been back on the dyno and its still pulling consistent numbers, last 3 runs if i remember correctly were 309,311 and 313 and i still get over 450kms to a tank of juice :)

One way or another I am sure you will hear how it turns out, I may not share it here given I am getting sick of making an effort sharing ACTUAL information on here to help folks out to be told that those results won't happen because this guy at the dairy's mates Auntie's boyfriend's penpal said that they don't perform.
I am definitely open minded to the fact that other housing/wheel combinations may have issues (this is actually an EVO3-16G, not a 20G) but I was told as a blanket rule by yourself and others that the anti-surge was a lemon, so far it seems not the case - will see how the final flow is but spool is already looking good. I don't know how the internal gates will perform on RB25s with bigger turbos, but as I clearly fabricated earlier... we have no spike, no drop in boost, no creep and so far tested from 10-19psi and are actually well impressed with the internal gate TD05 so far.

The IWG housing on your friends turbo is fine, thats fact. I have done one of those T25 based housings myself and confirm its the shiznit. Works a dream.

Its this T3 housing thats a bag of shite:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kinugawa-Turbocharger-3-Anti-Surge-TD06H-25G-w-T3-8cm-V-Band-Internal-gate-/281118875035?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4173fd9d9b&_uhb=1

That housing is intended for some kind of US based car which doesnt have stellar performance from stock (so it probably works fine at low power/boost). Thats the only Kando IWG that has an issue, just to clarify. One guy even lopped the rear of it off to DIY a 5/6 bolt open outlet and it was still shite, so its probably just a dud housing for the application. The T25 one your mate is using is a copy of the MHI unit GReddy uses on their T517Z (which his turbo is an exact copy of), so it should and does work well.

Re my comments that they were a lemon; I simply gave the best advice I could at the time. More than one person had reported that their surge ported T67s weren't on par, and one guy (Dori34) had issues which were potentially but unconfirmed to be related to the 3" 20g antisurge cover. Hypergear had also reported trials of similar style surge porting resulted in similar performance set backs, so I had accepted the data as reasonable at the time. As noted I am always happy to learn something new, which I do regularly when talking to you, but just didn't want to promote something I had my doubts in.

Definitely not having a dig, you are right to raise it if you have doubts! Just be clear if they are doubts, or facts. We all do the best we have with the info we have at the time - I am just trying to make clear that there is further info which means that what people are treating as blanket rules aren't actually the case, and highlighting specific cases where that applies just in case it helps someone in the future. I think we are on the same buzz, end target is to refine a list of what ACTUALLY works it different situations and don't mind adjusting previous view points based on new information which may come to light, the mission is finding that info. My dig was actually at others who throw said info in my face, what that same kind of info should be invaluable to those it applies to.
In regards to the T517Z - interesting you mention it is the same as what my mate got (which runs the EVO 3 16G wheel) as I've seen a thread where someone reconditioned their T517Z using an EVO 3 16G as an "upgrade", but Kando treat them as the same place and other places mention the T517Z as having a 16G6 (the EVO 4+ "EVO16G" wheel, which is designed to spin the other way). Man its fun filtering through the crap sometimes!

ollolol yeah, sounds almost like an NS turbo thread. Nah its got this, nah its got that!

The E3-9 turbos all have the same 16G6, just reverse rotation on 4-9 (3 is conventional) as you noted.

Here's an official GReddy sheet that confirms the 16G6 wheel in the T517Z:

http://www.greddy.com/products/turbochargers/turbochargers-misc./filter:model:T517Z/

No worries!

In the case of the 18G I have done I honestly feel that the stock position housing could be holding it back somewhat. I have no evidence to back this up though. It made roughly 210kw with ease on a Mustang dyno. I've noticed knock here and there recently so may speak to Jez about a touch up on his current dyno.

You make me wish I'd gone a 16G6 on that car though :)

Thats a great result. I bought a TD05-18G but struck engine problems before I could get to test it back to back with the 20G. I was able to make 275rwkws om 100RON. Below is my Unite 100 tune with the Plazmaman vs the std plenum.

Be interesting to see how it goes against your graph to see how much more punchy the 18G is

    • Hey was wondering if you ended up installing the R33 GTR speed sensor - I found one too and wanted to confirm it's a direct swap into the R34 6 speed?
    • After 23 years of owning a Skyline, finally had the latch go.  Followed this guide,  works like a dream again. Great Guide 👍
    • Hi all,   I’ve got the biggest lot of problems with my R33 GTS-T   It was a freshly rebuilt 25th anniversary RB25DET (plastic cas, neo cams) probably 6 years ago now   The engine was running so well but I fkd up badly and trusted someone I’d known for 10 years that was well known around Plazmaman for his welding and fab work. I added a lovely photo of some of his previous work. Not sure why my car was worked on by whoever did this shit     I’m normally someone who would never open myself up to something like this, I still can’t believe I did it. Trusting him literally fkd it all up for me. Everything has been a struggle, like it’s almost been 6 years that’s how much I’ve just on and off been trying to work it all out.    All I wanted was a car that danced down low, like full boost from around 3~3500rpm to redline, don’t really care what power it puts down (if it ever does) but I just wanted it to be quick to get on it.    He recommended the turbo to get, I picked Hypergear but he told me to get the front 4” with a T4 and 0.68 rear housing.    I was expecting all these beautiful welds, tidy fab work and paid for it to be ready to go to a tuner when I got it back.    I got a car back that was an absolute mess, I actually couldn’t believe it was my car anymore. I don’t think you could even call what he did welds, they’re disgusting.    So I stripped everything he touched off it and with every bolt I loosened it just got worse and worse.    I covered it and literally built and finished another car in the meantime but now it’s getting to the point where I really want my Skyline back.   Its a struggle because I paid him to do all this shit because I didn’t know how to and now I’ve had to try and figure it all out omg    Please excuse the bird shit horrible welds, I’ve got my show pony car and am so beyond dealing with this car I don’t even really care at this point.    If someone told me about what he did to my car I wouldn’t have believed them but it happened to me. It was unbelievable. He went missing, my car went missing, it came back missing parts, the straight af chassis rails bore the scars of being dragged up a trailer backwards, even the sandwich plate was bent. Everything was leaking and open to whatever fell into it, rounded off/ missing bolts, power steering oil and coolant everywhere, no gaskets, parts stolen off it, even managed to damage the sump pan.   Promised me he’d finish the car, knew what it meant to me, I paid him thousands and thousands just for him to trash it. He told me he was fully licensed and insured, come to find out he’d cancelled his ABN, so obviously no insurance. I had laid up insurance on the car and would’ve been covered but I was scared they would’ve written it off or because the business was no longer trading I’d still be liable.    He was supposed to:  New fully custom mild steam pipe exhaust manifold with turbo location moved from factory position to high forward mount. (I don’t know if it is a mild steam pipe, I’ve got a funny feeling the waste gate isn’t in a very good position and I don’t think the outlets off each cylinder are equal) 4” custom stainless steel dump with external gate (he re-plumbed it) Cut and shut OEM intake manifold with throttle reposition (I ended up doing the throttle reposition) Box in pod filter (left out) New 100cel catalytic converter (pretty sure it’s there but unsure if it’s 100cel) Front mount intercooler piping fabricated to suit (all smashed up and rusty holes where he was supposed to make it look standard where fmic piping passes through. I don’t even think my front bar is going to fit 🙄) Custom 5” intake pipe from pod to turbo (didn’t come with it so had to do something to make it work with the Z32 afm)   Engine: Full cylinder head service & machining  Brand new valves Precision upgraded spring kit Engine block honed New bearings  New piston rings  New ARP conrod bolt kit New ARP head studs Cometic head gasket VRS kit   ATR43SS2 ball bearing turbo 0.68 rear housing  Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate (got delivered to the fab bloke, I’ve got no idea what spring is in it, I’m assuming the one that came pre installed) Walbro 260 fuel pump  Nismo 740cc injectors (tested to 880) Spitfire coil packs GCG FMIC RB25DET manual 5 speed 4:11 rear diff   I’ve got an Apexi Power FC in it atm, I was hoping to just get it to operating temp to make sure everything was okay before towing to a tuner but it’s over-fuelling too much. I don’t think that’s going to happen so i think I’m going to get either a Link G4 or Haltech for it. What do you guys recommend? I can’t work out the power FC so just gonna give up on that one     It’s got an exhaust leak coming from somewhere I can’t see 🙄    The fuel pressure was steady but now it like drops from 40 to 20psi randomly (noticed this yesterday)    I’ll attach pics of the shit he put on my car and the engine bay now as it sits    I really just need some help, I need a tuner in Sydney I can trust, I’d like to be with the car while it’s being tuned if possible, I know it looks terrible but unfortunately I’ve just got to put up with it for now and fix the cosmetic stuff later   Do you guys think the manifolds are going to be okay? Or do I throw the exhaust manifold and try again?   I don’t even think these combinations are going to work tbh   I know everything I fitted was rated to be able to take at least 400kW but most rated higher    If you’ve gotten this far I really really appreciate it 🙏 I don’t mind if you trash me or the car, I made a rookie error and f**k I’ve paid for it. As you’ll see 🙄
    • From everything I’ve heard you’ll be waiting a long time for  the parts to arrive
    • Have you looked at the workshop manual?
