Will any of these kando turbos come in t3 with 8cm rear, as 10cm rear Is Goin to be laggy as on my rb22. Something smallish, really want to try and fit it on Standard manifold.

just a note, I believe they are all externally gated turbos.

I have only found them in T3 10cm, the T3 8cm are the 3 bolt Trust style flange...

Another option could be a TD06SL2 with a 10cm T3, I would think that would be a great turbo for a RB22

Funny to see that truck turbos are once again the flavour of the month :)

Funnily enough a mate now owns that car here in Perth! (Who occasionally comes on here to post about his other queer S13 drag car)

Combine that with STATUS posting some very impressive results, it all lead to me to giving one a go :)

Also think that the TD06L2 are very handy little unit... Not so keen on the T78/T88's as they just seem way too laggy for the power

damn coz i was thinking of getting one of these with using the standard manifold looks like i may still stick with the hypergear atr43 option

Yeah probably a better option for a standard manifold!

Will probably rip off the turbo and manifold in the middle of the year and get them double black ceramic coated now I know the settup works really well :)

Do we know if these things internals are reliable? Are they 270, 360 deg bearings etc etc??? Are they actually mitsu turbos or are they made by Kando the Great?

This is probably the most pertinent question - are they spec'd for long service, or likely to be a smokey squealing mess within 20000km?

I'd suggest that Kando the Great has learned many lessons from Grand Master Mitsu and doing a fair effort at imitating, not buying in their product.

If the quality of metallurgy, specification and tolerances are equal to Mitsu then these things should be difficult to overlook. Mind you, there are also some reasonably priced BW units in the Airwerks range too - with an established quality control base behind them.

I messaged STATUS before buying one of these, he noted that all the turbos he has worked on are still going strong and that one is being used for track work. I also read through pretty much every single forum on the net with topics on the turbos and couldn't find any documented failures of any kind.

how is the standard motor holding up to that kind of abuse without shitting something?

certainly a nice looking power curve though, didn't expect the power to keep rising at rpm like that with stock head/cams!

people that worry about spelling on a car fourm annoys me..rrrrrr

it is one of the most annoying things ever, it is even more annoying when people say it in real life.

I don't drive it all the time (I have a work vehicle) and I usually run it on 1.4 bar not 1.6 bar... Fingers crossed it will last for a while!

Yeah very happy with the curve and the way it responds on the road, probably my favorite motor set up I've driven :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Put on a turbo blanket on to try and keep under bonnet temps down for when I head to the track soon...

Also the car will be going back on the dyno soon to fix the boost curve so it ramps hard and holds 1.6bar flat to limiter. Also going to bump up the rpm 200rpm to 8000rpm, hoping it should smash out 400kw at the hubs. On another note it will be going on a roller soon as well for a comparison :)
