so instead of the td06sl2-20g on standard manifold on my rb25 i am now considering going to a bigger item

my supporting mods are/will be sard 550cc injectors, with bosch 044 surge tank etc, z32 afm, powerfc, stainless steampipe manifold, tial 44mm wastegate and straight through 3" exhaust

im chasing something that will comfortabley crack 300kw/400hp im not scared to lean on the turbo hardish (1.3bar +) to make the power but it needs to be able to do it

im just not sure that a the -20g on 98octane will make the power easily enough

also if im going to the trouble/expense of a new manifold i may aswell go with a turbo that may have head room for more power down the track

what do people think?

i guess i should also consider a 3076r but being another $3-400 more expensive turns me off, all to achieve abit of a truck whistle on spool up

I have this one... "the 4" inlet t67-25g (oil cooled)" and I have had no issues at all.

The "4" inlet td06sl2-25g (water cooled)" is the same turbo with a different CHRA for water cooling.

The "TD07-25g" and "3" anti surge inlet td06sl2-25g (water cooled)" are the same turbo as above but with different compressor covers.

The "4" inlet td06h-25g (water cooled)" has a bigger rear wheel which people have said makes it laggier with not that much more top end, Roy has had good results on his RB20 with this type of rear wheel.

My suggestion would be go the same turbo as mine, you can't go wrong!

The 3076R will be more like $1000+ to get running (including extra cost and custom oil/water lines) and in my opinion is not worth it :)

I have only seen a back to back of a Trust TD06SH-25G vs HKS 3040 on RB25s, both with std bottom ends, Greddy inlets, baby 256 cams and Pfc. Very similar setup. The 25G was more responsive and made more power on the same dyno,

Would be very curious to see the results of a good T67-25G vs HKS 3037/3076 comparison. I am not sure the 3076 would be a clear winner for out right performance :thumbsup:

There seem to be interesting views on that, I was actually reading an article on someone who was previously running a Trust T67-25G kit and swapped to a "GT3037" type setup and got better overall performance - there might have been a slight power reduction possibly, but it seemed the spool and response was in that case considered to more than make up for it. Doesn't surprise me at all that the GT3040 got all around beat.

The T67s deliver really good performance for the price though, results wise it seems like its a case of "what do you want more" which is good when one is cheaper.

I'd love to see a T67-25G vs a FP HTA GT3076R, which is currently my choice of the moment for an RB25DET :)

the thing im most concered about is id like it to be making power till redline which will be relatively low compared to your car simon, ill only go to around 7-7500rpm

roy you dont happen to have a copy of those dyno sheets do you? or how much power were they making? and how was it made? (linear or really aggressive)

i have no concerns running an oil cooled only turbo, but out of interest how did you block/replace your water lines simon?

I'd be very interested in playing with one. I've tried to convince a guy I have been doing tuning for to buy one as he's a bit tight for cash but has accumulated all the supporting mods necessary but after going in my car he isn't interested in anything but what I had on mine and would rather save a little longer and get it.

Again, thats with me trying to sell the Kando - but given I am fussy and destined to buy the best I think I can get to suit my purpose, I can't see a Kando ever fitting into that for any future endevours. If someone gave me one, I'm sure I'd find a way of getting it something to do though lol

What size injectors should I run I'm going to run a td06sl2 on rb25 at 20+psi

Rough rule of thumb is 1cc = 1hp at the engine.

As Scott said though, leave room for when you change your mind in the future. I wish I had gone with 850's instead of the 650's now.

Yeah that was what I was thinking but I'm in WA so I'll be waiting a long time for eflex haha

Perhaps not at the pump, but I'm toying with the idea of getting a separate tune for ethanol to use on track days.

I've received mixed opinions on running large injectors in a street car. Some people say they just won't idle nicely or deliver good fuel economy, others say that is all in the tune. From personal experience, my car doesn't idle the best and I have some issues on start up, but I get pretty good fuel economy. Those issues could be injector related or they could be something else, so it's hard to say.

I'd speak to your tuner about it.

I have the destchwerks 740cc injectors and they have done the job well. Although lots of people talk about the ID1000 injectors as being a lot better. Just depends on how much extra they are and if they drop straight in.

Injector Dynamics don't make a drop in injector for RB25's do they? All the ones I've seen are top feed/high impedance, so need a fuel rail and other bits and pieces.

For the money I would rather get genuine nismo 740s. The Nismo 740s are meant to be very good to tune with, as good as stock and better than the Nismo 555s.

Do it once, do it right.

so i spoke to Yavuz @ Unigroup engineering about his experience with tuning a TD06SL2-20G on a 25

some of his comments were:

- a very good turbo even tho it is old technology, its still on par with current range garretts etc

- tuned a few on rb25s and all pulled anywhere from 250-310rwkw (deciding factors were because of intercooler or hi-flow cat choices which caused restrictions etc)

- need at least 18psi to see real results and when they perform best

heres a dyno chart i found on of r33 rb25 with a td06-20g that pulled 300rwkw @ 17.5psi - so looking very promising if you have a decent pacakge that works well, you can net at least 280rwkw minimum.

    • Yea the photos aren't the best. When I was pulling the bumper and headlights out there was a bodyshop guy looking on for it, there is a slight bend behind where the passenger headlight is, but we're talking a few MM and there is a little bit of a bend for the reo. That said it's supposedly well within the "Drill a hole in it and pull it out with a slide hammer to be close enough" and be on our way. The other option is to buy a GTR reo for the GTR bumper bits but this is a $2000+ fix for something Mr Hammer can probably do 99% of the job for and everything will/can line up pretty closely-to-good-enough.
    • That's a write off for sure... Part out? 😛 I kid. It looks like the rad support has a minor minor bend in it too where the rep support sits near. Could just be the photos (and me not wearing my glasses right now). Worst case is you can buy a new radiator support, have it swapped over, and leave the car in paint jail for 12 to 18 months while you build the motor to handle twin turbos or a Harrop SC...
    • It seems the definition of "Gregging" something might need to be expanded?
    • This is why I suggested that there is really nothing that can safely be done in the engine bay at this budget level. Just the work to reassure yourself that the engine won't instantly crap itself the moment the boost gets turned up will wear out the piggy bank long before the first turbo gets installed. Spend $10k and still not have any extra performance? My tip is a version of our standard advice from 15 years ago about buying a GTR, which is not to buy one unless you can afford to buy two. The new version is not to modify a GTR unless you have all the funds required to do it all at once, properly, and enough to rebuild it after it blows up.
    • Oh, I forgot to mention this before.  It is accepted that your taking on risk buy turning up the power on a 30 year old stock motor. You can lower the risk with the ECU engine protection, but this is more money on sensors. CAN wideband, oil temp, oil pressure, coolant pressure, fuel pressure, air temp, etc. It adds up quick.  I am a huge fan of running all of the engine protection the ECU offers. You'll have to decide for yourself how you want the engine protection setup and what you think is worth monitoring.
