I've been using them for a number of years now, and have not had any issues with them. My current setup is a DL1 (6G,Gyro, 20Hz GPS), Dash3 and Video4. I have also used the Dash2 in a prior car, and would have used it in the current car but it would not fit properly.

the are quiet fiddly at the start but once you get the hang of it and set it all up it performs well. Prices have dropped a bit which is nice for those looking at them now but factor in a good amount of time spent to install it properly.

Mine was one of the first of the new versions i think that came out with the serial port in the rear, it had some problems with the sat's in the sth hemisphere and how it was set up so had to be sent back to the UK.

I have the Dash 2 with sensors for Ambient and intake temps, water exit temp, engine oil temp, diff oil temp, oil pressure, TPS, wired up the brake pedal switch as well.

I am running a power fc so are not able to use some of the new functions they have come out with the cables that log everything from the ECU but this can save a heap of hassle.

Accuracy is very good and with the 20hz and going through the right start log procedure i find i have very minimal walking with the gps aerial sitting on the dash of the car.

I have just seen the new products coming from Race Technology for 2011, if you are looking at getting a Data Logger, it might be worth waiting for a little while, I believe the the official release will be by the end of the month.

Share your problems, i have had a few in setting up and running. Even had to send back to the UK.

Do tell? You can't throw a line out and not put some detail out.

I can't release a lot of information, technically I should not have seen half of the gear that I did see.

DL1, more ports and SD cards now, USB connectivity, switched output ports, new faster processor.

DL1Pro, Mil spec connectors and water resistant case.

DL2 has some hardware updates, more major ones later in the year.

Dash 4 Pro, a fully configurable dash along the lines of the Motec MDD.

There is also a number of incremental upgrades to other products in their range.

Well that all sounds (& is) good but it doesn't count for much when you cant pick up satellites or the auto start feature doesn't work on half the functions. Or for that matter you send it back to get fixed & they pronounce it fine when it just isn't.

Anyway fingers crossed the new ones will be better.

Hi,

I've had a DL1 for nearly 9 years and love it.

More data anaylsis options in the software than I know what to do with. GPS can be a bit latent to pick up satelites at Phillip Island sometimes. I have the 5hz antenna from years ago so should upgrade.

The best piece of equipment I have ever owned to reduce lap times.

would love to get user info with the Racetech dash. Got a Platinium Pro test unit from Haltech, very happy with its performance, no problem cold starting some race engines. +1

cheers

BTW, lost Matt contact info, can you pm, me please. waiting for the Easter at Eastern creek entry forms. not sure if I'll enter a car or 2 for world time attack in Aug 5/6 fri/sat, it is the same weekend as PI 6 hrs regularity sat/sun. will go to Bathurst drive in Nov. love to catch up with Matt

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
