R31 Amp Mounting Locations

Alrighty, i have installed my head unit, and wired up my 4 channel amp and the 4 speakers to it. I Have also run all the wires for my 2 channel amp to connect to my sub. At the moment my 4 channel amp is just sitting in the boot (Stable and not sliding around).

I was thinking of two ways about this, for those of you familar with a 31 boot (should be most of you), at the back of the car its all flat and then just before the rear seats it is a little raised and still flat.

Originally i was going to tuck my sub right into rear passenger side over the exhaust because it was out of the way and sat in there nice and tight. But due to the recent install of a turbo, that spot gets quite hot now. With the sub there i was going to mount the two amps up on the raised flat part or to the backs of the seats.

Now my thoughts are putting the sub up on the raised part, facing away from the seats at it fits in nice and tidy there too and then mounting one amp to the back of the seat next to it, and the other on the floor below the other amp. this would be just as tidy, if not better.

A question i have is that if i were to mount the amps under the rear seat, would they get to hot due to the lack of ventilation?

I would like to put them there as they would be hidden, and wouldn't be taking up any room. And if i had to put vents in the front of the rear seats, (just where the back of your legs would be), with fans or something i could probably conjure something up.

So does any one have any suggesting or feed back for me?

a MDF board covered in carpet with spacers to hold it off the seat back the proper distance. bolted to the rear frame behind the seat facing away from harms way. but still able to breath , or side wall, passenger side, works as well

Just had a look to check the space under the rear seats, no such space exists.

For the time being i think i'll stick the sub drivers side behind rear seat and stick the smaller amp on the passenger side to the back of rear seat, and my bigger amp next to sub, under smaller amp on floor. if that makes sense.

Maybe later i might put a dummy wall sitting a little back from the rear seats and put the two amps on that wall inbetween the seat and wall. dunno, i think i'll just bodge it up so everything is secure with plenty of breathing room.

Might just place things every where and see what looks best.

that kinda what I meant but the amps are behind the wall, and the wall is smaller. mounted to the seat back frame, the little area when you pull out the back seat , the amps depending on how large and how hot they run can fit hidden behind the wall

subs can fit in custom boxes on the sides but watch the r31 fuel door release, they break off easy,( the white clip) and if you need access at the petrol station it's better to use your fingers on the latch then a screw driver to pop the door open.and scratch the paint or bend the door.

don't pinch the fuel pump wires either, under the carpet , R31 have lousy harness connection at best to the fuel pump pain in the ass to fix broken off wires.

R31 has plenty of space for equipment compared to the r34..lol

I understand what you mean now. i'm going to put a single piece of mdf behind the seats like you say and cut a whole in it for the sub to mount in and then mount the amps along side or below. Found this picture on the 31 site, looks exactly like what you suggested. So thats pretty much what i'll do.

dont run the sub like that , unless you bought infinate baffle model ? one without a box required ?? or it will die a quick death

Just got a Fusion sub. no clue on baffle. I've got it in a box atm. and the box is sitting where the sub in the picture is, so i might just do half the seat as mdf so i can mount tha amps.

what do you think?

yeah should be fine, leave the sub in the box

and dynamat the rear rego plate, cause it will rattle a lot..hahah

and then fall off like mine (work hardend the metal in the plate till it gives)

ended up using the double-sided tape for bodykits aswell

should of used duck tape. would last longer.

i don't seem to be gettin much bass from it. dont know if its a shit amp or if its a tuning thing. will get someone experienced to look at it.

also wanting to dynomat the entire boot, including lid, to hopefully eliminate some road/exhaust noise and also improve bass. would i see good results?

I've dynomated the boot in my 31 I noticed thats its not so much loader but a bit stronger bass and it sounds alot cleaner and alot less rattle

Did ya do the entire boot? Was there a big reduction in road noice?

I did the lid and walls cause my floor already had stock sound deadener I didn't notice much difference with road noise... I did it more for the rattle
