R33 Stock Boost Controller Hitting 20Psi

Hi guys

I recently bought my first turbo R33 so far im loving it but i have a few concerns and hoping someone can help this newb!

when i first got it i noticed the stock controller wasnt even connected... after connecting it it seems to be running about 20psi. Any ideas on how i can reduce this? or why it may be running so high?

I bought a manual Boost controller and fitted it instead running only about 9 at present but of course im getting a severe flat spot. ive been told an ECU reset can help fix this? Im planning on getting a proper dyno done on it after xmas but any suggestions i can try before then?

Thanks for all help!!

Sounds abit weird. Any strange noises when you hit boost? cos if it is standard turbo running 20psi thats not good. As for proper dyno tune you will need PFC, nistune, etc.

where are you reading 20psi from? is your gauge in PSI or something else and you are getting mixed up?

if its a legit 20psi, and itsreaching 20psi its running unlimited boost, which will kill the turbocharger and probably the engine

stop driving it, fix your mangled boost controller install or get it done by somoene who knows whats going on

the engine and turbocharger are at severe risk like this

until you fix that, dont change anything else, ie dont fit an ECU to "tune" around it

once you fix the boost control issue, you should have around 12psi as normal max boost on the std turbo

check that all the hoses for the stock boost controller are hooked up. I've never heard of one failing and doing that. Theres a DIY on how to earth out the solenoid to run constant 7psi, it should have some photos of where all the hoses should hook up to

Perhaps i should clarify i bit more...

i have a gauge in the car.. its reads BAR not PSI (came with car) ... when i have MY manual boost controller connected i have adjusted up to 0.7 bar (10psi according to the calculator) thats running it in 3rd/4th gear highest revs.

When i disconnect my manual controller and connect the FACTORY controller my gauge hits 1.5 BAR (20+ psi) in 3rd gear at about 4000+ .

I want to run my manual controller over factory but should i be worried about the factory one running so high?

Thanks again fellas

ps. i can take some photos tonight and post them with both setups if it helps?

you did plug the standard boost controller electrical plug in and have checked for damaged wires to it? Im pretty sure if it was just left disconnected but it would just run 5psi all the time

disconnecting the power to solenoid wont cause harm it run just run std actuator boost

BUT disconnecting the VAC lines or connecting them the wrong way means the actuator may get no pressure signal

no pressure signal, the wastegate doesn't open. the wastegate never opening = unlimited boost = engine failure

yeah sounds like you may have connected the line that goes to the BOV return line (if your still using that) or the line for the boost presssure (from cooler pipes) around the wrong way

theres 2 ports on the solenoid, one for each, then the one that goes to the wastegate. Im pretty sure anyway?
