what did u end up buying? where is the link/pics :)

i also recently bought a very clean gtr - they were hard to come by back in 04 when i was looking as i could have bought 1 then for 20k+ but ended up spending 40k on a clean aust delivered gtr...these days, its as rare as hens teeth finding a good example 32!

Well after about 8 months of solid searching and people emailing me telling me their cars are in amazingly good condition, only to drive 1 and half hours to ballarat to see one that was probably the worst one I saw with rails that where severely damaged and a fresh coat of paint over rust on the rear guards with no treatment at all!! The owners selling point was the number plates "WMD" "Weapon of Mass Destruction" :domokun:

........I finally found the early 89 model which as some would know is a bit more favorable than the later models for various reasons. 80,000 documented kms. Previous owner had it for 5 years and put just under 1500 kms on it. Very original car down to the exhaust.. Amazing condition! Best buy I have ever made.

As for pics look at the gunmetal R32 GTR on Wikipedia pretty much identical.

To be honest to all those looking and following my thread. If you want a clean one and by clean I mean original paint, straight body, no rust, low kms etc. You would seriously struggle getting change out of 25,000-30,000 in Japan.

Locally odds are it will be a little cheaper but If I had to spend the time and effort looking locally I would rather pay an extra couple of grand and import (too much rubbish here)

If you have the time and patience though, nothing beats inspecting a car yourself

haha it does sound like a WMD gtr lol

i drove 900k to view another gtr which wasn't much better than the above...i then came back home but we made a boys weekend out of it!

not sure why the 89 would be more favourable than a later model gtr? i had an 89 & now have a 94, that was my prerequisite as i wanted a younger car

i also agree that buying locally is cheaper & far less risk - the gtr's in japan really are starting to rust from the salt they use on their snow coated roads BUT either way - it takes a lot of time to find a good example if you are fussy

"Early R32, weighing in at 1430kg, over 100kg less than R33/34 and still 50kg lighter than the supposedly lightweight "mass production" 91.5+ R32:s. The last of the "true" racing GTR:s, later homologation models have been and are sold under the NISMO brand."

Thats just a direct quote, but there are other components to the car which if you do some research you will find out, such as higher quality plastic components being used, stronger engines etc.

During 89 they did alot of experimenting as well some cars came with different parts to others for example some came with standard oil coolers etc. Its a little hard to find information on this but If you dig you will find the information.

Basically the 1989 models are a stronger built car, before nissan decided to cheapen up a little on parts and start to mass produce the heavily demanded car.

Doubt it was the one in the link... I linked it in his other topic...

And yeah, the earlier ones were lighter. Even better if yours came in under the 15 year old rule = no intrusion bars :D

that's it I'm buying back my old car....

here is some interesting info on the 94 vspec2:

- 02/14/'94 V-spec2 added

Tire changed 245/45-17

# N1 model gets based on V-spec2

Besides these, ECU, cylinder block and the size of turbine had been

modified some times without notice.

Spot welding is supposedly decreased after '94.

the 91+ yr models are not 50kg heavier - unless those later model gtr's fitted with side intrusion bars are using solid section steel bars lol (these bars weigh 5kg max)

the 89 gtr's which had additional parts such as oil cooler didn't arrive like that from the factory...that is a selling pitch to the vendor :)

my dad used to always say "believe half of what you hear & none of what you see" god rest his soul

Most 94 GTR will not have side intrusion bars. I have some documented information which confirms that they are lighter. Even If you do some more research though you will see that. When I get a chance I will post the PDF up.

As for the Oil coolers. I have seen them first hand so its not word of mouth or anything I could probably get a picture of one, as my friend has one but I cant be bothered.

Each to their own really not much of a debate on the topic. I went for an 1989 as it is a better built car with higher quality materials. The VSPEC/VSPEC II are no doubt a good model but if you are going to modify it I would say an early model is a better choice IMO

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
