I will replace them with SMD lights after it passes the pits, Just to be safe.

But yes, it seems he just wanted to sticker me cos he could and knew i would pay it i guess... wasn't a good day for me.

Did this yesterday.

Finally got rid of my ugly pillar gauge holder and have setup the new one....only problem is I cannot see what gear I am in......not that I ever know with this retarded gearbox anyway.

Dropped Moby off at AM Performance for the suction pipe, a job Andrew is really looking forward to after seeing how much room there is to work in.

Drive there was the first time I'd driven the car with the EVC fitted. It still needs some tuning. At first it felt very sluggish, until I worked out how it was setup. A change of the boost settings saw it return to almost normal, but it seems to be making boost a LOT earlier than it was. It's also measuring boost before the factory boost gauge hits about -0.25PSI.

Hoses aren't leaking though, everything is staying together, so I'm convinced it'll be a setup thing. Just need more time with it.

It's hard enough with my 2.5" pipe using a jig, and I have 10mm odd either side; the 3" would need to be absolutely perfect every time in every single dimension.

No worries mate, sorry I didn't get to take any pics today, was in a hurry. Puppy had to get to puppy school...

My intake won't have to be 'absolutely perfect' as I'm using a pod. SA doesn't have the same rules on induction as the eastern states.

I told Andrew to make up a jig, so we'll see what happens.

Finally got a new clutch fitted. Ended up with a DCS billet twin with ceramic multi button plates.

Pedal weight is lighter than the Exedy heavy duty I fried at WSID, It grabs a bit but nothing like the HKS twin I had in the car before.

Redline Shockproof in the gearbox and front diff.

Back to WSID next time i'm home to see what I can break next.

I have a jig, it is a spare engine and turbo. ;)

I have made a few and sent them interstate now. Way too hard to guarantee fitting accuracy with only a few mm of clearance though, and most turbo's being highflows they are all clocked slightly different. Can't be done very easily.

I can definitely make the lower and middle sections, then you need to cut your AFM to fit the top section to the airbox, something most people would be reluctant to do. Then, I can't supply the top part as it is in a slightly different spot every time I make one. There are also no bends tight enough to get a smooth transition into the turbo without lobster backing. With so many wedges of alloy to join there is a lot of welding involved.

The funnel to the turbo is the most critical part when it comes to power. If the hole is too small you waste power, less airflow. If it is too big there is a step which slows the airflow. Every highflow is a different size so you need custom parts made on the lathe = time and expense.

Besides all that, not many people willing to pay for the time consuming fitment process. (you had issues getting to the actuator, have you tried to get to the lower bolt on the intake?)

I would be keen to see what he can come up with mate, and for what cost. I think I was doing it for a very reasonable price considering the time involved in making/fitting them. I know of one owner that paid 3 times what I was asking at another shop.

I figured it was because I was a mechanical numpty that I got frustrated with the actuator...

Andrew's got the car for a few days, he'll take his time and we'll see how it goes.

That was the last thing I had to do on the car before the F-con sensors went in, and it got tuned. So shouldn't be long now. Just depends on whether I should get the TransGo kit in first.

At this stage I'm not 100% on the highflow route. That's something Andrew and I will have a chat about when I pick up the car.

So what sized hole is he putting in the intake at the turbo end? It's not something you want to do later once the intake is made.

The go would be to make it the full size of the metal gasket (opening to arrow). If the turbo is high flowed later they normally just enlarge it till that ramped part is gone. Well, that's how I made mine & how it came back from Stao. Didn't have to change a thing, thankfully.

I just purchased a spare standard turbo.....my current one is coming off in the near future for a service so I might see what I can get with a smaller rear housing setup......a GT30/?????

I've left it entirely up to Andrew, he'll do what he thinks and I'm sure it'll be right to go. If it needs to be modified later that's not a big deal.

    • Oof, I will forevermore have those shredded gears in mind whenever someone talks about showing mechanical sympathy towards their car. Thanks for the photos, fascinating stuff!

    • The holdups last year were drivetrain related. I had the car out right after getting the bearing issue resolved. Third launch and the car didn't move after releasing the clutch. It had sheared all the engagement teeth off the 1st gear.    Thankfully no other damage was done. I set an aftermarket gear beside an OEM gear and found that the engagement teeth on the OEM gear were much larger and better supported. Looking through my bin of spare transmission gears I found that there are two types of tooth on the OEM first gears - the larger tooth and the smaller tooth. It looks like most aftermarket gearset manufacturers base their design on the smaller tooth. OEM large tooth left - Speedtek, OS Giken, etc or OEM small tooth right Decided to give that larger engagement tooth a try. Pressed the ring off an OEM gear and sent it to a transmission manufacturer here in the States. They did their "faceplating" operation with my synchro ring on the Speedtek gear.   I reassembled it, took it back to the track and promptly destroyed the gear itself.  I'll rebuild this and use it as a spare - thankfully just first gear and the countershaft are damaged beyond repair. Definitely disheartening but my welded on engagement tooth ring held up!  Moved to Speedtek's dog engagement design as the gears appear to be much stronger. So far they have taken much more abuse at the track. Also scored a Stillway lockout from the Netherands for super cheap. It's for some other RB transmission so it took a bit of fabrication to fit but honestly a very easy job. I also had to heavily modify the gates as they were very different.   Then for some reason at the last test and tune a silicon coupler below the throttle blew off and took out the radiator and fan. Thankfully it was in the burnout box and not down track. This car is really beating me up - I still haven't made a pass in it. Ran it through the gears many times on the street but it keeps biting me at the track.  Currently in the process of replacing the radiator and remaking the throttle pipe to remove the coupler and use a cast 90 and a vband. I WILL get this thing down the track...
    • Covers most of the above points really. There's a few exceptions but most just see driving as an irritating but necessary task they must complete if they want to get anywhere on time. Also see it as a good time to show their awesome multi-tasking abilities on their mobile and/or doing their makeup.  
    • I don't believe I posted pictures of the second oil pump pickup I added so here they are. Data shows it gets oil pressure up to the relief pressure much earlier in the RPM. Is that important? Not likely... This was just another attempt to fix the bearing issues.   I also heavily opened up the inlet to the pump since it now had to flow oil from two pickups. I believe the diameter increased about 1/8".
