swapped the transmission over yesterday with the 'good one'

big thanks to craig (jetwreck) and andy (andy65b) for their assistance.

the box is pretty much the same, just lacks that overdrive lockup problem which was a massive pain in the ass.

cant wait for the shift kit to go in!!

I hate the way the convertor clutch locks up so early. Previous jap nissans I've had they don't lock until your over about 85km but the m35 seems to lock at about 60km or lower.

+1.

Around town or anywhere up to about 90km/h, I flick the stick across into 4th; locks out top gear and is generally a bit more responsive.

Doesn't kick down as easily, but I don't find it too much of an issue; much better than constantly shifting up and down all the time, because you can't maintain 70km/h...

I disconnected the torque lockup two years ago, The high stall converter keeps revs up over 2500 when cruising and shoots up to 4k fairly quickly once boost kicks in. I pay the price with less fuel economy though, I still need to fit a switch near the gearstick to lock the converter on long drives.

Speaking of overdrive, is it just me or do these things want to be in 5th gear asap. Cruising at 60kmh in overdrive at 1000rpm seems kinda stupid..

once the box went into lockup, if it was in it long enough it wouldnt come back out of it

and yes they get into 5th quickly, but i find now if i move my foot a little it will kick back no problem.

Got the Cat back on, can actually hear the exhuast note over the induction sound. Gained a few ponies and must have lost 30kg's getting rid of that huge coffin mid muffler.

Front pipe is on next to go on when it arrives.

Hey Ross, what exhaust did you put on? And I like your wheels - car looks great mate.

Picked up my autech on Sunday morning and fitted some 20" rims I had laying around straight away lol. Hopefully getting front pipe, highflow cat and and 3" cat back fitted this week

we want pic's!!! :P

Thats a good time.

1st owner of my stag (CoolPC) ran a best time of 16secs, with catback exhaust k&n pod filter & 10psi

Would love a strip in Sth.Aust to see where it'd be nowadays.

Once the engine is refitted, of course.

$4k is the rebuild price, including engine out/in, tune after run-in, CP piston kit, complete block work (bore/hone, acid bathed, etc), head refresh & new MLS gaskets.

Spent about 3 hours scrubbing away at the double sided tape/foam that the japs must have used for aerials. Unfortunately the previous owners never bothered to remove them so they were pretty much rock hard.

Also debadged the rear end.

Going to get some quotes on how much to spray my wing black/spray my new grille and fix a small dent in the passenger door and most likely respray the bonnet tomorrow. Previous owner did some "touch ups" that most people would refer to as graffiti. I'm hoping I can get away with all of that work for under a grand. No idea though..
