But I should get a photo of it and post it. This stuff is amazing, I used it on my dump and not one corner is even thinking of peeling off!

and it actually does its job!

Do you mean you stuck the heat shield directly to your dump pipe, or to the firewall to reflect the heat away?

Can you give me details of cost and maybe a phone number/email address of the place? I was about to buy some on line but will hold off if yours is so good Scott's buying some :)

Oh, for the record, the Mrs isn't blind, the sign was obstructed by a tree (and I can't be bothered fighting that so don't bother)

bought a greddy oil filter relocation, strong AUS dollar and US ebay = $260 delivered to my door, thats a whole $120 cheaper than just jap thats before i pay them for postage too! Now just need to get an oil pressure gauge aswell

on the wall. so the wall doesnt buckle under heat or anything.. our firewalls are thin, i dont know if anyones notice that the car retains heat. well that because theres F all between the exhaust and the wall.

dont know off the top of my head. like i said scotts plan is to buy in bulk. maybe it'll come to you cheaper. in any case, wont need it unless you have a dump or have pulled off all the sheilding. but speak to scott for all the detailsthumbsup.gif

Cool, I thought that's what you meant. Scott's dump was posted to me on Monday so I expect I'll have it tomorrow. He suggested stick on heat shield from an ebay seller, and I've since found a couple of different ones that look pretty good. Even thinking of putting it around the IC plumbing to help with heat soak. I too have noticed just how much heat is retained under the bonnet.

I'll also get some wrap for the dump pipe which should help a bit. What's your opinion on those turbo "beanies"? Probably a bugger to put on considering where it's located on the M35, and not sure how effective it will be.

Yeh scotts below link is the stuff and the exact place as well.. putting it around the IC piping will probably make the IC Piping retain heat as its not able to escape. I also thought about the "beanie" thing but im not sure how strong our housings are, I know it would prevent a lot of heat in the engine bay, but i wouldnt want the housing to crack because it cant let off its heat..

I bought some *meh* oil last night and some Motul engine flush. to hopefully get all the gunk and shit out!

also bought some pre mixed coolant, so it will be distilled.

a couple of $15 filters..

dropped the oil in the car. and found that there are small bits of alluminum shavings from when the shaft snapped. Im letting it drain right out until i get the turbo back.

Good thing I bought an engine flush! although I think i shouldve done it when i bought the car..

My sheet of that stuff has actually come unstuck slightly, its still in place but the sides have come off.. it may just need a 2nd 'press' to restick it and then it'll hold, Maybe. I'll try and get around to it on the weekend :P

If the reflective heat shield was stuck around the return pipe (after intercooler), it would help keep the heat out and cool in. If the pipe doesn't get as hot from under bonnet temps, then it can't transfer as much heat to the colder air. I think insulation works in both directions.

I'm with you about wrapping the turbo in a beanie tho. Just not sure how it might affect life expectancy. In theory the turbo should be able to withstand its own heat (covered or not), and stopping the heat transferring directly across to the air side would be desirable but..... I'll have to keep asking around. It's certainly not the first thing that needs doing, but would be easier whilst under replace dump and exhaust. I bet I couldn't be bothered to do it later :)

The surface has to be cleaned like you've never cleaned anything before, i used pure ethanol to clean it off, but degreaser will work.. none of my corners on the previous one i used for the dump has even thought of coming off. plus its 3m

I've never heard of it, but no name stuff probably made in china wont last long. and its only rated up to 550 degree's, if your gonna tune it, your exhaust temps will be higher than that. the Dao's place stuff is i think 700degrees.

i thought you meant before the FMIC, yeh after would work but only really needed for pipe that the BOV is on, and if yours is stock, its made out of cast anyway so it doesnt need to be sheilded, its insulating itself.

I have only tried the 3M gear as it has the good sticking properties, I always clean the area with ethanol or metho before I apply it and have had no issues.

I wrapped my intake and bov pipe but from reading the forced induction forum, they say its a waste of time as the air isn't going to heat up in that short a time. That said, I have seen many race cars running it but they have much higher under bonnet temps and radiated heat.

A turbo beanie on our rear housing isn't a good idea, the casting is very thin compared to a Garrett and could easily warp with the weight of the exhaust hanging off it if it got too hot. I want as much cooling down there as possible with my setup.

I intend to heat wrap the return pip on mine as I've found it can certainly get quite warm (much warmer than the exit side of the intercooler actually).

Installed a digital water temp gauge a few days ago as I had an inkling feeling that my water temps could be abnormally high.

A solid 81 degrees with it creeping to 86 on a warm day in peak traffic :D

I've got that same kit, Rhet. It's a bit of a PITA to install, and may leak a bit because getting in there to tighten it up is hard with so little space to work in. Also, despite looking like braided oil lines, they're just regular rubber oil lines with the "braided" covering, unfortunately.

But it makes changing filters soooo much easier, so it's worth it!

cheers for the info mate, what did you use to get it tight? just your hands? and i really am looking forward to not having my arm look like its been in a lawnmower after every oil change :laugh:

edit: out of curiosity what oil filter do you use? i imagine there would be a few options
