awesome, thats exactly what i want!

also gotta order my apexi ECV to shut it up a little more when i need it

yeh.

but be careful with the ECV. if you decide to one day make your way down here for a tune and advance the timing, you wouldnt have much use for an ECV.

if you close it your changing the velocity of air flow through your exhaust which WILL lead to detonation/Pinging with WOT.

and if you go the Kakimoto R, be sure to get a bigger wastegate flap welded onto the rear housing as there is NO restriction in the exhaust, you'll suffer from the boost creep problem im facing..will have to pull the turbo out again some time soon. I think scotts gonna put a spanner through my head one of these days lol

I haven't had a good look underneath yet, it was fairly dark when I picked it up, but looking at the pics on Andrew's camera, I think I know what the problem is... I think he 'forgot' to put a muffler on the back...

you shouldve gone a Jazma cat back system from Jap and had your exhasut shop make up a dump/front pipe.

mine is 80mm straight through from the turbo to tip. and its still really quiet.(FWIW) .. lol you can actually see from one end of my exhaust to the other lol.

Aaron, don't quote your exhaust as a "JASMA cat back system" as those who don't know it is a Kakimoto R may try searching for a "Jazma" brand exhaust.

If a cat-back has JASMA accreditation in Japan, it just means that when held at 3000rpm, the exhaust sound is under 95dB.

I'll video it tonight..

even cam's noticed it and Cam's picky with this stuff, but he even said.. for a straight through its fairly quiet.

sounds nice on full throttle as well.

Yeah, it is about the same volume as a Fujitsubo Legalis (~90dB) and a touch louder than my Nismo

If you really want quiet, you just cannot beat a Blitz NUR for NM35's.

if you close it your changing the velocity of air flow through your exhaust which WILL lead to detonation/Pinging with WOT.

please explain........

lower velocity will just create a blockage and the turbo cant come on boost as hard/fast. how will that cause detonation??

you decrease the airflow.

if i put my previous exhaust on, with this tune I would detonate because these is not enough flow.

when you advance timing. you advance the amount of air. why do you think i changed my exhaust? I maxxed it at 230kw lol anything more i was detonating.

how do you know why I changed my exhaust? lol I changed my exhaust coz I maxed it.

i was running 20psi fine with it at 230.

I changed the exhaust and went back for a tune and got 285 with 20 psi on 98ron.

ive not maxed my internal wastegate with the amount of air the cars pushing through. and its creeping.

do your EVC valve and tune it Wide open. then close it and do another run with the same tune, and tell me what happens.

if i close the valve then less air out the back of the turbo = less boost = less power.

there is less chance of detonation with less boost, assuming youre tune is ok on the higher boost setting.

why am i silly?? lol

when i get home at 3am i dont want to wake the entire complex and shake my villa to pieces. also when im cruising and see police, i dont want them pulling me over for that.

yes, it will give me a power loss, but if its there soley for the purpose of keeping it quite, why would i be revving the shit out of the car while its in the closed position. i may as well just hand my keys over to the police and ask them to take it.

Thats exactly how I use my Nissan Sports Muffler

so im not so silly now am i aaron? :P

dunc, i have the sports muffler on my car at the moment. i wired the valve open! not that it made a HUGE difference in sound anyway

so really your a mexican.. shouldnt that mean you live in Victoria?

lol

You'll find that you wont need the valve if you went Kakimoto R u wouldnt need a valve.. you could use it for something else :nyaanyaa:

I find it makes a fair difference on mine, dare I ask are you sure you opened it up the whole way? bigkevracer was in my car for half the SA Stagea cruise on the weekend and thought the exhaust sounded like it almost had a slight leak at 2-2.5k RPM when on the highway cruising..I dropped it into silent and I think the reaction was basically a 'Well, yep. That switch is definitely working, and you definitely dont have a leak'. Stealth mode ftw :ninja:

i've got an ecv

its pretty useless

yes it does make the car quiet with it closed, but it also doesn't drive real good

its fine at idle and low speeds (like 20kmh) but its pretty useless so i don't really use it at all

    • But I think you missed mine.. there is also nothing about the 98 spec that supports your claim..  according to the fuel standards, it can be identical to 95, just very slightly higher octane number. But the ulp vs pulp fuel regulations go show 95 (or 98), is not just 91 with some additives. any claim of ‘refined by the better refineries’ or ‘higher quality fuel’ is just hearsay.  I have never seen anything to back up such claims other than ‘my mate used to work for a fuel station’, or ‘drove a fuel delivery truck’, or ‘my mechanic says’.. the actual energy densities do slightly vary between the 3 grades of fuel, but the difference is very minor. That said, I am very happy to be proven wrong if anyone has some hard evidence..
    • Hey guys I’m chasing a Rb20det complete or bare block need a good running engine as mine has low comp
    • You're making my point for me. 95 is not "premium". It is a "slightly higher octane" version of the basic 91 product. The premium product that they want people to buy (for all the venal corporate reasons of making more profit, and all the possibly specious reasons of it being a "better" fuel with nicer additive packages) is the 98 octane stuff. 95 is the classic middle child. No-one wants it. No-one cares about it. It is just there, occupying a space in the product hierarchy.
    • 98 and 95 have to meet the same national fuel standards beside the actual RON.  91 has lower standards (which are quite poor really), so 95 is certainly not 91 with some octane booster. It would be an easier argument to claim 98 is just 95 with some octane boosters. Also RON doesn't specify 'quality' in any sense, only the octane number.  Anything different retailers decide or not decide to add to their 95 or 98 is arbitrary and not defined by the RON figure.
