big fella - haha loving the gold on blue subaru look haha, i can see why you got sick of them

dunc - your lucky you had a sharp stanley knife, otherwise you mighta needed an angle grinder haha

well today i fitted my HSD HR coilovers to my C34. i didnt mess with the heights or anything yet, just banged them in on softest dampener setting. VERY VERY happy with the handling (either though it needs a W/A badly now cos the fronts toe-ing out and i set rear camber bolts to max advantage by eye so the wheels would clear. il do one on tuesday at work). according to the box the spring rates are 5kg/5kg but by my measurements and a spring rate calculator its more like 7.7kg/6.2kg, i did pick them up 2nd hand with less than 10k on them so i dont know if springs were changed or if its not the orignal box. its riding about 2 inches lower now, i want it lower but il need aftermarket camber arms in the rear and might as well get some for the front. il post some pics tomorrow after i adjust the heights slightly

also found out that in the last 1000kms both my front CV boots have split, so thats next weekends job.

Scott helped install the Silkroads Coilovers on my car last night.

The OEM suspension was stuffed...well the shockers were. Took it a few minutes to extend back to its original height after being compressed

Anyway the we kinda followed the instruction manual's heigh adjustments. The damping rate was adjusted to medium for front and rear.

The last thing I hear from Scott as I drove off was "Woh that's low"...

It was dark so I couldn't see 100% how low the car sat; went for a drive up Mt Dandenong with a friend in his S5...OMG what a difference. The car was like a friggin go kart...we did 5 runs. Sooo much fun...

Yeah it was a tad bumpy but I'm loving at for the time being...might adjust it to soft later on...if I ever get sick of the bumpiness...:rofl2:

I bottomed out a couple of times on Mt Dandy...weird I thought...I can't be THAT low...

Checked it out this morning...now I know why....I probably had 50mm clearance from the ground to the lowest hanging part of the exhaust...hmmm

The extra camber isn't helping either >_<

Looks awesome, keep us posted.

I'm curious whether it can be lifted to a tolerable height for daily driving, and whether it can be adjusted soft enough not to kill you on suburban rodes.

Do you have the Whiteline sway bars in yours?

1k landed from yahoo Japan via streeter. They are usually 1.5k to buy but recently there's been a couple of listings selling them new for almost 1/2 price...

Is that a new price or 2nd hand? $160 cheaper that BC's is tempting....

ok so ive done

frount mount intercooler

full 3inch turbo back

pod filter

boost controller

turbo off 300zx quadcam recomended from garrett and SSS bloody great highly recomended 5 psi boost is the same as

the standard turbos 12psi

tomiee head gasket

arp headstuds

stagea uses gtr valves and springs and had them upgraded when the head was off

BC coilovers

next [hopefully in the next month]

r34 gtt brakes

33 GTR wheels

They were new, and not bad quality. I think the BC's are a little better though, as you don't need to drop the rear shock to adjust the dampening.

Yeah that's the only bad thing about them...hmm

They were 300 cheaper then the br's though.

Exactly what turbo do you have?

i dont know exactly what turbo is but the guyes at garrett are friends with my mechanic and friends with the guyes at SSS auto they all said to try this turbo it should be good and gave me and my mechanic one each to try and it is bloody good and opens the motor up heaps. i am trying to find the exact specs for it but they said it was off a 300zx quadcam

pretty sure they are t25's or maybe t28's if you are lucky

the vg30et had a turbo that was a bit bigger than an r34 neo turbo

this sounds very odd

From what I have been told and can see with the turbos side by side same comp housing but bigger exaughst housing and different blades insted of the standard turbos 6 blades the new one has 14 it was a. Strait bolt up and the motor feels so much more free faster spool up more agressive boost curve envy in brookvale are expermenting with one as well. 3 hours to change $200 can't go wrong best money on mods I have ever spent

VG singles have the OP6 turbine housing like the neo RB25 but have a smaller compressor from memory.

Unlikely it will be an upgrade. There are plenty of old threads kicking around about these turbos if you search back far enough.

i just got off the phone with the mechanic the compressor housing is the same as standard and the back is a touch bigger and the back housing is what holds the stagea back i am running 5 psi and it has almost as much kick as the standard turbo on 10 i guess i will find out soon when the nistune goes in and on the dyno i dont want to push the turbo yet because the standard petrol map might not handle it and i cant afford to kill it.

paul at boss tuning has just dynoed his stagea and got 125kwatw completely standard and we are changing his turbo on wednesday for the same as mine then dynoing his car i guess we will see and i will post the dyno sheet and more info when done.

I don't think you will see much difference. If the compressor is really the same (which I am not sure is the case) then it will be pretty much identical to a neo turbo. The turbine housing probably allows another 10-15kw or so headroom when hi-flowed/rebuilt possibly at a cost of some response. I think that you will be limited by the compressor anyway.

The R33/S1 Stagea turbine housing hasn't proven to be a restriction with a stock compressor previously.

I reckon you will end up with 190-200rwkw (+/-10kw for dyno variance) assuming FMIC, 3" exhaust 12psi boost etc.

    • Thanks for that.... If only I could do something once and be happy with that, like some people do....
    • I had no transmission at all so I managed to find a big box manual gearbox from an R34 GTT for an insanely good price in EU. I converted it to push type which cost more than the transmission almost, with parts from Amayama! These engines are very strong and can put out decent power with a properly sized turbo. You can save on money from parts like pistons and rods, and invest those in the transmission and other parts. I suggest you join the RB20 Enthusiasts facebook group, plenty of info and almost daily posts there about 20DE/DET/Neo+T builds. (I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by mentioning third party platforms, just trying to help the buddy out)
    • Yeah, having tried all of those methods including BBQ+recipro/hacksaw, I ended up buying a bush press kit under $150 that works well, like this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355967727167?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=sfmmuhxgqhm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=dJvnaZ11TB-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY It basically has a range of pushers and cups with threaded rods between to press out a range of large bushes. The problem with any sawing solution is minimising damage to the subframe side, although it probably needs a quick sand afterwards no matter what solution you try due to damage
    • Hi. Thanks for the answer. I do not have instagram 😄 I too considering turbo the RB20DE NEO 🙂 But i think i upgrade the gearbox first or at least buy new.
    • Just pulled the passenger apart so got a good idea, also the side bracket that pivots the top half is completely cooked.. how I don’t know.. haha and paid $400 also included a photo of the passenger seat! She is mint
