thanks for the info, but I actually gave to a reputable tuner a std bov with flange and also the atmo HKS bov and said here you go you choose whatever you think is best, they tuned it they picked which bov to use and they set it up... I told them to do it it right, not cheap or easy, to do it right, as I wanted a reliable usuable setup, and that it hopefully see more track work in the future...

Im not a tuner, I drive the car and it works now if what your saying is that Im going to shorten the life of my turbo then Im disappointed in the tuner as I thought they were a good workshop and had alot of experience... all I know is the car runs and makes power, would like better response of course but that could be because many variables...

So is it worth me going to the same tuner and saying what the hell, or do I goto another tuner and start again with the tuning process...

I honestly believed the tuner who did the work would of really knew what they were doing and thus would of made the best choices, I know they certainly wernt cheap...

+1 for plumbing back the bov on all cars with MAF's. The air has been counted and you are loosing it from the system. The biggest difference I noticed was rough acceleration low down in the rev range. It can be mostly tuned around but mine improved moreso once I plumbed the bov back into the intake. It will help response after a gear change although I couldnt tell the difference.

The problem is if its been tuned around, then if you plumb it back you will prob need a quick touch up.

Trent from Status said with an R34 he strongly recommends it, moreso than the R33 but still recommends it for the R33.

What have you done with the pcv valve? Is that plumbed back as well?

Im running RB26 cam covers hence no PCV valve, running lines from both cam covers for atmo catch can

So it sounds like I need to start again with another tuner...

tuners have cost me almost as much as the parts the themselves and Im still not finished...

I kinda would of expected the tuner to pull me up on these things, but nope apparently everything was fine from their perspective...

Woah hold on, its not a major thing. It will only affect light throttle cruising where you are in vacuum and only very slightly between gear changes when giving it stick (although I cant feel the difference).

It would only require a tiny bit of retuning. The WOT tuning would not be changed.

When I took my car to Trent the bov was not plumbed back and Trent said look I recommend you plumb it back but its up to you. My first tune was done with the bov blocked off as my metal intake pipe had nowhere to plumb it back to yet. It made exactly the same power, the only difference was just minor driveability things like flat spots and some backfiring on gear changes.

Unfortunately, most of the time its a fair bit of work to plumb back the bov to an aftermarket metal intake, so a tuner is not really going to be interested in doing that work. I would prefer them to at least mention it but I think it falls on the owner to sort that out beforehand. Plus 90% of the tuning will be the same anyway.

yeah I understand its not a massive tuning change, and I have the in my metal intake a large nipple to take the plumb back from the BOV which was blocked off to use the atmo bov instead, but I have a few other things I want to look into in the tune as well... I have an excessive knock issue.

is it really that bad for the turbo to suffer reversion?

thanks for your advice it is appreciated, I put everything together and then asked for them to check and advise and all of it, nope everything is fine... oh good I thought...

maybe I should get another tuner to look at it and see what they say or by the seems of it just an experienced forum member might be able to help...

There are many threads on here about turbo reversion and whether its dangerous to the turbo. Tends to be most people saying that it is dangerous but most stories I have heard have been after a long time and could be other things. Either way I think its preferable to not have turbo reversion.

You could start another thread and post up pics of your engine bay and we can discuss. On this forum you get experienced tuners such as Trent from Status Tuning answering you anyway so you get the best of both worlds!

That does suck if you had it all ready to go and asked the tuner and he still said its fine without the bov plumbed back!

You see - BOV open between -30psi and around -24psi, and then when the car goes to -20psi, its closed and you're "tat tat tatting" to premature turbo failure via reversion..

it wont kill the turbo, lots of cars came from the factory without a bov at all and many high hp high boost cars dont run them either, even F1 cars pushing 50psi didn't run them. Not saying you shouldn't run one (lots of good reasons for recirc) but it wont kill the turbo.

I know a lot of people don't run them at all, and they say reversion is on, but Nissan as a whole thought it was a good idea, and their cars work best with a plumb back so its best to keep it that way unless you move to a map sensor.

Plus, sneezing is gay, and attracts cops like flies to shit.

I really dont care if my car sneezes or not I let the tuner advise me on what their experience thought was best.... they chose the atmo bov even though I had provision for the plumb back and also supplied them a std plumb back bov...

Im usually going to fast to see if women are naked or not, let alone worry about their being any bubbles...

luckily I dont carry any shit around with me either hence not having any cop issues...

but I am interested in keeping my expensive turbo safe, so that is the point of view Im interested in.... thanks for the info everyone, back to topic...

    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.  
    • Stripped the tank down and gave it a good scrub. It came up really good! Not sure if I'll just put it back in like that or give it a blackening treatment (such as Bowdens The Black Box). That might give it a matte look so might just run it as is.     
    • @MBS206 Ha ha, yeah ADHD is a daily battle to not get drawn in to doing things you want to do that you know you shouldn't do!  Every single time I walk into my shed I end up doing something I started the day having zero intention of doing! I keep mentioning the 1 step forward, 3 steps back scenario and I'm tipping people that are blessed with ADHD (yes, blessed) are the worst at that!  
    • We import a lot of cars from Japan. I'd say that approximately 20% of our traffic is imported JDM cars (mainly consumer cars like the Mazda Demio, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift, etc.). We also import a lot from the UK, but this has decreased after Brexit. Apart from the consumer vehicles, two of the larger, well-known dealerships frequently import iconic '80s/'90s JDM cars. I haven't heard of anyone importing from Australia, and they are not advertised (unlike Japanese ones), despite a lot of Maltese migrating to Australia in the '50s and '60s.
