Hello fellow Skyline enthusiasts and owners!

My name is Daniel, I'm 21 years old and come from Germany! I study business administration in third semester at a private school in germany.

Yap, you might ask yourself: "what does someone from Germany want in an australian forum", but I'll explain that later on in this introduction.

Actually I'm not new in the Skyline scene. I have already been member in the german Skyline (Skyline Forum Germany) forum for 5 years now so I won't ask the classic newbie questions

Unfortunately I still didn't make it to buy my own Skyline which I had planned for next year which also won't work till then.

Instead I decided to finish my studies abroad and come to Australia and if all runs good, buy the Skyline there and take it back with me after the year abroad.

And so the reason why I am here is to inform about purchase cost and registration cost in australia, but also what steps are important for registering a car.

Now this text has been long enough, here are a few impressions of Germany's Skylines

a video :D

Greetz, Daniel

Hey mate,

What sort of skyline are you after? Prices vary wildly between an R32 GTST and an R34 GTR.

See www.carsales.com.au for accurate pricing on a skyline from here. Keep in mind the car will be RHD.

Registration costs are roughly $1000pa.

Exporting the vehicle back to Germany may cost you as much as the purchase cost of the vehicle itself. The question then comes down to, are your motives to come to Aus mainly based on your skyline dream? And are you not better off purchasing a local skyline there in Germany?

The cars are quite common in the UK and as with all cars in the UK would be dirt cheap in comparison to Aus. Aus car prices are usually ridiculous compared to the rest of the world. Call it $20-25,000 for a R32 GTR, $25-35,000 for a R33 GTR and $40-100,000 for an R34 GTR. Obviously pricing is highly dependent on model, such as V-spec etc. An R32 or R33 GTST will cost you roughly $10,000 and an R34 GTT will cost $15-17,000.

Tunning costs in Aus are also fairly ridiculous and most "fun" things to do with a car carry a prison sentence.

Import and export of a vehicle can cost up to $10,000 by the time you pay duties and shipping costs.

The UK is a far more sensible option, assuming the whole RHD and LHD option suits your situation (not sure which you use or what you would get out of the UK).

Good luck!

Hi.

Thank for your quick respond with all the important information.

The most important reason in this is that i want to come there due to finishing my studies. So my education is on top of my to do list :D

Purchasing a skyline would be just a benefit, which from my current situation now is unlike to realise, but there is enough time to manage that.

I'm after a r33 or r32 gtst. I have already been on carsales and i must say that Skylines are a bit more expensive than in germany but that is not that interesting for me. Shipping the car back is also something i don't care about at the moment. The advantage i can have is that i save money when i ship the car back to germany, because german law sais: If you have owned car which was registered on your name in a foreign country where you have lived for at least six months , you don't have to pay import taxes because the car then is treadet like a usual shipment good of relocation.

Experiences have shown that cars, and not necessarily Skylines from the UK are total s**t^^

Nearly all of them are in so bad conditions you cant't imagine, all rusty, not well maintenanced. It is very hard to find a good one.

Many of those who buy a Skyline import them from Japan directly. A friend of mine just started his own import business for japanese sports cars.
