2 Turbos Into One

hi everyone

i have one hks 2530 which has a chip on the front wheel and i have another with buggered bearings.

my question is, can i take the good front wheel off and put it on the turbo with the good bearings and chipped front wheel?

obviously itll probably need to be balanced again but is it possible? worth it? or can i buy new wheels reletively cheap?

suggestions, opinions greatly appreciated

ring a turbo specialist and see what it'll cost. you wont be able to do it properly yourself

you could certainly do it, balancing shouldn't be too expensive but I would enquire at a turbo shop before doing it, there could be more damage you don't know about which would make it a waste of money.

need to press the bearing sleeve out of the BB shafts without bending the shaft. Sand blast out all the carbon the turbine wheel. bath all the bits, balance the shaft with new comp wheel and shaft nut. put every thing back together the was it was and its ready to go. Not an easy job.

You could try ordering a new cartridge through Garrett Japan , off the top of my head its cartridge number 446179-21 . If Garrett still make it and sell it as a spare part it should still be available .

my only problem i cant find there details here. they should be open again tomorrow or tuesday but i cant find a number.

finding this stuff is so much easier for things in australia.

get a turbo shop to do it. Ive balanced turbos before (for heavy diesel machinery) and its not something you can do yourself AND will be an issue if it is out of balance

im not about to go do this by myself. i dont have the tools or know how to do it. (im sure i could pull it apart )

You can pull it apart, but again there are tricks etc to doing this. The turbos i worked on where alot bigger then what you would have and where quite easy to pull apart. I think with smaller turbos there is a real chance of bending or snapping the shaft. It would honestly be best to just take them both into a turbo shop and ask if they can sacrifice parts from both and make a single working turbo out of the parts

you can try pulling it apart, you might be right but just saying probably best to just get a turbo shop to do it
